I think preparing people for tertiary education takes priority. Imagine if a kid didn't get learn enough English say to continue that further coz his school had to fit in mandatory driving learning (something people have learnt without schools for a long time)
I get what you're saying. I don't think driving a car would be apart of this thing. English and math should always take priority. But another thing like this should be one and counted as a third priority class.

In this instance it's not so much learning to drive it's what do they do in certain situations re rego, buying a car, what they should know.

If I didn't have my pop with me when I was looking for cars I would've been screwed badly because I knew jack shit about them or how to acquire one properly without being scammed by a private seller or something. I didn't even know how to deal with looking at a place to live for myself. Some people don't even know how to catch a bus but can't drive. Simplistic things but they all matter.

You leave school knowing nothing important in the real world. Would I rather know some useless fact regarding history or learn how to do my taxes that actually comes in use through out life? Easy answer.

my school had an optional drivers course (optional as in you had to do something but that not this exactly). We learned about the road rules and safety stuff and messed around with car sales sites. Even got a turn driving around on the school oval.

was alright- helped with the theory stuff when I wanted my learner's license I suppose.

What about the guy on Bay13 that had to call the RAC to change his flat tire for him, that's hard to beat.
