Small world- parent of a student here works in movie distribution, got to talking about my time at Hoyts (circa 1996-2001) and he knows/knew my executive managers.


Damn i should have asked him for a job, would love to work in movies again.

He briefly explained the "food chain" to me as well, like what he does/how movies get distributed to the cinemas, how many sessions etc.

Dunno about that but i can tell you this.

Working at hoyts we could have all the free popcorn and coke we liked. But at no time ever were we allowed to use the boxes/cups the stuff came in.

So there you go packaging cost more than the corn/oil, etc. I guess.

similarly airlines make literally no money from economy seats. Most of their profit comes from the limited business/first class seats.

Whenever I get a soft drink crave I walk to HJs to buy one of their frozen coke tbh. Walking means exercise since it's 1.5k + another back and it's a lot less than a few 1.25L bottles in terms of cash and intake
