Not a big deal, but I thought I'd share this news anyway cause I'm too damn excited.

I was approved for a six month tourist visa today

I arrive in Melbourne next Friday morning at 9:30. It's gonna be so good to be back!

From my desk at work (31st Floor) I can see the Melbourne airport. I'll keep my eye out!

Just out of curiosity, how long did it take for the whole visa process to happen???? Sadly my man and I won't be together for Christmas

Mags may come out an welcome ya! U never know! But Doubt it!

Watch Out For The Pigz In This Country Stealth! Must be great to get out of the Gore-Bush crap!

I only got a tourist one; it took about a week but I rushed it because I was on a big deadline and my idiot travel agent failed to inform me of all the required paperwork. This is for six months only; I could have gotten a 90 day ETA instantly at her office but I wanted six months.

I would do it at least a month before you want to leave, if you have a valid passport.

If you don't have a valid passport, you need to get one and it also takes a couple of weeks. Start early and be safe. I got lucky.

Someone told me to stay off King St. I heard Footscray was real bad too.

Last time I was there a couple hairy incidents happened within my group...some f'ed up goth dude threatened my girlfriend's sister with a pool cue once at a club; can't remember where that was exactly; think it was in Coburg.

We also had an incident in front of the casino where a couple rent-a-cops in a van looked at my girlfriend like she was a hooker because of her clothes; asked her a bunch of questions about where she lived and what she was doing. That was pretty embarrassing.

If these are the worst things that ever happen to me, I guess I can't complain. I'm usually not a big city guy; I've lived in the US midwest most of my life in cities of around 50k-200k.

Our situation is, the passport is almost ready (YAY) so I will get my sweet to apply as soon as its ready. We won't have the money for at least a month, so it's all gonna work out pretty well.

Thanks again - and good luck!!!!!

Don't be fussed about it being only a tourist visa. My missus (seppo) got a tourist visa a year and a half ago ... and now she's a resident.

Yer just gottah find a decent sort to shack up with ... a residency bunny ... like I was.

50k-200k cos yer don't like urban centres? I always chuckle at that. Those are large cities to us. My town of raising has a population of 50-200 (note no 'k').

Hope you enjoy the stay!

To me getting a work visa for Oz should be a pretty simple process.

i mean if you can turn up to the consulate and nominate the top goal kicker at fremantle, that should get you a Visa.

How complex does the system need to get.
