Not a lot of information but we have this

Nick Blakey
Midfielder/forward
194cm/75kg
Swans academy/NSW-ACT
27/2/2000

Three clubs will fight for Blakey's services next year, with the midfielder able to join North Melbourne and the Brisbane Lions as a father-son prospect (his father John played with the Roos and Fitzroy) and also the Swans as an academy pick. Sydney appears the early favourite, but Blakey will be hoping for more luck with injury next year after a back concern ended his 2017 campaign early. At his height, Blakey is considered a utility who can be used anywhere.

the clips I have seen of him playing, he felt like the kind of player we have never had ... maybe all the way back to someone like Dale Lewis.

A tall classy midfielder. But he is already so tall, I imagine he will eventually be key position.

Is that a genuine 4 or the ‘it’s a GWS/Swans academy pick and therefore must be top 5’?

SYDNEY
Sam Wicks
Forward/midfielder

Played some really good footy for the Swans reserves and after earning himself a NEAFL Rising Star nomination, was a member of their losing Grand Final side. A small forward who can play as an outside midfielder, Wicks has speed and endurance and is ultra competitive.

Nick Blakey
Forward

A key forward with the versatility to play as a midfielder, Blakey's key attribute is his overhead marking. Inherited his father's running ability and is sure to have all three clubs (Brisbane Lions, North Melbourne and Sydney) waiting by the phone next year.

Michael Carroll
Defender

A raw prospect that is developing quickly and really came on in 2017. Has good closing speed and is excellent one-on-one, is aggressive, sure footed, and is a good size for a key defender. Was about best on ground for Pennant Hills in their Grand Final win this year.

Conor Flanagan
Defender/midfielder

Reads the play extremely well and a standout in the Swans academy in terms of his professionalism towards his footy. A very handy role player because of his competitiveness and elite endurance.

Jack Hardman
Forward

A powerful small forward with a big vertical leap and speed, but needs to work on his endurance and skills over the next 12 months. Has the ingredients to attract plenty of recruiters.

The six week academy benchmark program concluded today. Only four picked for the under 19 academy neafl development squad. Josh stern, sam Wicks, bailey Stewart and Joey Reinhardt. They start training with the listed squad tomorrow.

So no Jack Hardman or Mitch Rogers? Wouldn’t they have been eligible for that?

I thought Hardman was u-19 this year, he might be too old next season. Could be wrong, though.
I get confused with this. I thought the NEAFL development squad was specifically for the U19s and that all those guys were the same age (as are Bell and Brown who got Rookied)?

It’d be nice to get Blakey. He actually seems like a similar player to McCartin, so to have them both in our forward line 3-4 years down the track in a post-Buddy and Reid world would be pretty exciting. Having said that, it’s all hypothetical at the moment so I won’t be thinking about Blakey too much until November next year.

Unfortunately they didn’t get selected. Nor did mike Carroll. The nds is under 19s who play neafl for the year as the primary top ups. They also train with the full squad during pre season.

Hardman, Rogers and Carroll are the correct age for nds but at this stage have not been selected.

They are the same age as James bell but a year younger than Jake brown who was nds last year with guys like Liam maze, jarrod Osborne, Sam Barkley.

Hopefully he makes it. Good to see a bit of traction over NRL happening.

I coached Isaiah last year. It's hard to say where he would be at with a year of not playing at club level, but obviously with the academy still retaining him he can't have lost too much. Isaiah is one of those players who just look like they have all the time in the world, clean hands, good decisions, and steps through traffic without anyone laying a finger on him. I'm glad to see that he's gone with football over league.

Some more discussion about Blakey

Nick Blakey
Sydney Swans Academy/Allies
Key Forward/Medium Forward
Height: 194 cm Weight: 75 kg D.O.B: 27/02/2000

The son of John Blakey, Nick has been one of the best performed bottom agers in 2017 year and is eligible to join three clubs under the bidding system. Nick Blakey next year is eligible to join North Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney under both father son and academy rules, making him the first players to ever be eligible to join three clubs under the bidding system. Nick Blakey is a rangy forward who is strong in the air and mobile enough to play as a smaller player than his height suggests at 194 cm. Blakey in 2017 couldn't have done much more to catch the recruiter's eyes as he won the Harrison-Hunter Medal (the best player in the academy series), kicked four goals in an exhibition match against the NZ national team and even played two games for the Allies. This kind of CV is unmatched by many his age and has cemented his spot as one of the best prospects in the country. Blakey as a forward is very strong on the lead, extremely mobile at 194 cm and is versatile enough to play as a third tall or even a roaming half forward, making him a mr fix it type player up forward. Blakey despite his overwhelming strengths does have an issue with his disposal on his non prefered foot, which often gets him caught out in games. This is something I expect him to work on in the off season and could make him a more complete player coming into 2018. Nick is one of the best players in the pool and as much as every other club will want him, expect one of North Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney add him to their list in November 2018.
