If the Cats get pick 90, that means they have to use every pick up to and including 90. That means they have to have 6 draft picks, so at least 4 more traded or delisted. That bites into their depth in a big way.

No, they DON'T.

The rule was changed this year, along with the introduction of the rule allowing teams to trade draft selections without a player also changing hands. Clubs are no longer required to use picks received as a result of trades.

What this trade means is that Geelong are in some serious salary cap trouble and need to make room fast.

Both were going to get delisted anyway and I think they do have very large cap issues. Stretched by the massively improved contract they gave to Blake to keep him there.

Rossy Lyon is certainly relying on a few handouts. He's done a very good job so far too.

IMO that is all that squad needs. A solid ruckman in King and as long as there injuries are kept to a min. there looking to be a Top 6 team next year at least.

Might put a few $$$ on them for the Flag

I thought you could skip your own picks, but are forced to use the ones you traded for???

Is this wrong?

They must have someone lined up at #90 anyway.
They have a father son they will claim with the last pick.

They obviously think they've found some real talent that will go later in the draft.

They will have to use about 6 picks (since they got 44 for Playfair).

And your right, they MUST use pick 90, and, if you pass a pick, you have to pass the remaining picks (would be logical anyway).

So yeh, bottom line is, Geelong will have around 6 picks up to pick 90.

If my Club traded me for Pick 90.......I'd be rearranging some of the decor on the way out......

that's just wrong

apparently were going to lose King in the PSD anyway..... jeas they must be tight for cash

going to be an interesting couple of years for geelong, especially when Selwood and hawkins need to renew their contracts

We're getting closer and closer to seeing a trade for a pick in the 100s. That is my interest in the remaining 40 minutes of Trade Week.

I thought that once you passed, you couldn't opt back in to that draft, and that by trading for pick 90, that commits them to all the picks up to and including that pick.

I could well be wrong though.

It's a fire sale down at the Cattery. Geelong has sent Tim Callan and pick 66 to the Dogs for pick 62.

Nice deal for the dogs.

It is a fire sale isn't it.

Hudson trade confirmed - http://www.afl.com.au/Default.aspx?tabid=208&newsId=52332

TRADE THIRTEEN:
Adelaide receives: Western Bulldogs picks No.22 and No. 54.
Western Bulldogs receive: Ben Hudson and Adelaide’s pick No.43.

TRADE FOURTEEN:
West Coast Eagles receive: Western Bulldogs picks No.22 and No.54.
Western Bulldogs receive: West Coast Eagles picks No.30, No.35 and No.62.

Don't see how we can recieve the same picks as West coast though!

You don't have to use the traded pick in the national draft.

should trade 14 read adelaide swap 22 and 54 for 30, 35 & 62 with the eagles? else the bulldogs have used 22 & 54 twice.

Typo from afl.com.au

Got me excited but I'm pretty sure 22 and 54 are going to WC and we're getting picks in the 30s. :(

22 for 30 & 35?
mmm - unsure about the thinking behind that one.
picks 10, 27, 30, 35 & 62 -
+ moran, symes
- meesen, hudson, mattner
is that right for adelaide?

yeah the bastards at the bullies are making sure we get even more shafted! They could have passed the 22 over to us but no, I think they are giving us a "sweetner" of 30 and 38 instead

Thanks for the clarification Vader / NikkiNoo.

I've got to say it's a bizarre amendment to the old rule. That means that rather than letting King (in this case) walk to a club of his choice in the PSD, a club can steer a player to a club of their choice in trade week and accept nothing in return. I know that the player has to accept the trade, but it still gives clubs a way to subvert the PSD process.
