Re: Official 2008 Fixture

Also this little bit from the website:

Geelong
Plenty of prime-time action – that’s the reward for the Cats in 2008 after breaking their premiership hoodoo last season.
Geelong will feature in Friday night football six times next season – including MCG blockbusters against Collingwood and Hawthorn – while a Grand Final rematch against Port Adelaide on Easter Thursday will kick off the season.
Last season’s best team has also been included in two significant fixture changes. The Cats will play on Anzac Day in a match against Fremantle at Subiaco Oval, while they will share the second week of the split round.
Mark Thompson’s side will travel interstate on five occasions (the same as 2007), with two trips to Perth and Adelaide as well as a trip to Sydney’s Telstra Stadium.
Perhaps a sign of the Cats’ increased drawing power is their rise in Friday and Saturday matches. Last season Geelong played 13 Sunday games but that number will be slashed to just four in 2008.

Re: Official 2008 Fixture

What a fantastic timeslot draw we got, shows what being premier will do for you, only 4 Sunday matches
Apart from a few little things i am happy with the draw:

Good points:

We play both Hawthorn and Collingwood, FN at the MCG.
We play Sydney at Telstra Stadium
We have 7 Saturday Arvo games!! 5 at home
We play Carlton and Essendon as a home match in Melbourne.
We play at the G 4 times

Bad Points:
We play Essendon as a home match at the TD :thumbsdown:
We don't have ANY home matches at the MCG
We play Richmond as a home match at the TD, terrible move IMO, should've been either St.kilda or WB, but Richmond if it were at the MCG.

i like the games at the G, the more the better i say. i think we had 2 this year?? 5 games at the dome and 4 at the G is not bad, heres hoping we can move out of that phone booth all together which wont happen.

Re: Official 2008 Fixture

Just been looking through this at work with a mate, and the one GLARING thing for me is the first 3 rounds.

You won the grand final by a record margin, yet Port Adelaide get the advantage of a home game for the GF replay in Round 1. Your first "home" game is in Round 2 at the Corporate Dome, then finally in Round 3 you are at Kardinia Park to unfurl the flag.

What sort of respect is this showing the premier ? None at all. You can bet your bottom dollar that if Collingwood or Essendon won the flag then they would get a home game in Round 1 at the venue of their choice.

I has become standard practise for the premiers to play round one at the loser's ground. It happened this year when WC travelled to Sydney - and won.

I don't like it. Premiers should always have round one at home to unfurl the flag. In this case it's even more unfair as we don't play at home in round two either.

Or we could rub it in Ports face, unfurl the flag there and then spank em good.

Re: Official 2008 Fixture

Saturday, Jun 21: West Coast vs. Geelong Subiaco (TEN) 5:40 pm
Friday, Jul 04 : Adelaide vs. Geelong AAMI Stadium (SEVEN) 7:40 pm

WTF
6 day break coming back from Perth, then back out to Adelaide again.
Imagine the uproar if the Pies had to deal with that.

Aside from this i am quite happy with our draw. 4 MCG games is a hell of a lot better than the 2 or 1 we've recieved in recent seasons.

More exposier on FTA is a good thing although not looking forward to the minute breaks between goals we'll have to deal with on channel 7 games.
you notice it at the game.

i still for the life of me do not understand why we can play essendon in round two and not again, have to wait until R17 to play Hawthorn and play Port twice before R12. WTF

Re: Official 2008 Fixture

Yes i agree with you MAPPA....thats a first in a agreeance w a hawks supporter:p:D.

I think all cats fans/members would've loved our first home at Kardinia Pk & our first melbourne game at the G' but as Ned Kellys and Ben Cousins famous last words Such is life !! no real big deal their.

I quickly went thru the draw came out with this overveiw our first 5 games !? 4/1 split.A good start to the season.....
Our second group of 5 matches i came up with a 5/0 split but a question mark over the freo match !?......you would'nt know what freo team will show up.
The third group of 5 matches i wen't with a 4/1 split being the perth trip to the eagles as a possible loss but it could go either way......by this stage of the season i think every side will have an idea of where there at !?
The last group of matches i wen't with a 5/2 split being the question marks over nemisis the hawks at the G' and another blockbuster, the swans in sydney.

Of course it's a long time between now and the season 2008 and alot of water will pass under the bridge but your only as good as your last performance...:thumbsu::D

We play Richmond as a home match at the TD, terrible move IMO, should've been either St.kilda or WB, but Richmond if it were at the MCG.
that is a f*ckin disgrace. Why would that not warrent an MCG game.
