Yep happy with the trading and drafting. A couple of solid players in Longer and Docherty. Plus a few who we can sit back and watch grow into AFL players - hopefully good ones. No real small players drafted either.:thumbsu:

Very happy with Longer, Docherty and Yeo, still don't know where Weardon fits in but I'm happy to wait and see. But I dont really understand where we will fit 2 first choice rucks in the same side, in the future. Just leads me to believe that one of the two rucks wont be around at the Lions for good.

I also think the other thing we may look over is although we didn't pick up a midfielder as such - we have drafted and traded for player that will aid in our midfiled being stronger. The inclusion of Zorko could push Banfield up and Docherty could push Hanley up.

Spot on!

Considering they both can play up Forward, I don't see the issue?

It's basically Billy instead of Mitch.

The inclusion of Zorko could push Banfield up and Docherty could push Hanley up. Also we have a few players that haven't played or played very little -Bartlett, Polec, Green, Beams etc. On reflection now - i am feeling really good about this draft.

Have not said much, but all along I have not been worried about chasing mids - IMO we have some quality there that needs a chance.

That said, am happy with this years additions- we have balanced out the list well. Would have liked a Schade, but there are 18 clubs all chasing players.

IMO Longer & Bergs both have the potential to cause problems up forward & will be groomed as such. We will be better off in the long run with Billy as a genuine target rather than Mitch.

Just to end, am stoked in the club having so much info on the website so soon. Great to feel so involved. Kudos Insider & offsiders.

Are there any pictures of the top ten up on stage in there new clubs jersey? Any video's as well? Also any piccies of the draftees in there new clubs jersey in general?

Hope someone can find a picture for you, as it was nearly comical.....2 players stood out, making the others look like puny little short people....No.1 + No.8 (OURS!!):D

Right on the front page of the AFL. You are right, it is hilarious. Longer is enormous in his Lion's jumper, and so very many Giants. And just by the way, how huge is Patton. Boy-monster.

Well at least the draft will be going back to normal next year. is it jus tme or did the GC have SFA picks this year??? Also did GWS have more 1st rounders given to them than what the GC had given to them last year??? I just don't remember the GC having as many 1st rounders as GWS did this year

Edit just looked it up and yes the GC did have as many

Don't forget Gold Coast banked a lot of compensation picks last year. They also traded their first rounder this year for Jaeger O'Meara.

This year's KPP stocks do appear poor. By my count only 10 talls taken in the top 40, and 4 in the top 20.

We got our KPP with pick 29 already in Jordan Lisle. Another season should tell us more about whether Cornelius, Retzlaff and McKeever will make it, and hence draft accordingly next year.

We already have a good crop of inside midfielders, with high hopes for Harwood and Green. While you never say no a top shelf extractor, this is one area we do have depth in.

We did need more rucks - whether taking one with our top pick is a good strategy can only be assessed 5 years down the track. I'm comfortable with us taking Longer if he's regarded the best ruck prospect by a long way.

The other area of our deficiency is in skilled runners with high hurt factor - with only Drummond, Hanley, Polec, Bartlett and maybe O'Brien. I'm happy we have one such "lock" player in Docherty, while there seems to be plenty of upside in Yeo and Wearden.

Looking ahead to the rookie draft, we might consider another ruck (perhaps a mature state league player), key forward and crumbing forward. We have already committed to Richard Newell, and if we stick to our "46 man playing roster" strategy, it should see a total of 6 on our rookie list, and hence 2 "live picks" in the rookie draft.

We are comfortable that in Matthew Leuenberger, we have a player capable of being bracketed in the Top 3 in the competition. Therefore we wanted a support act rather than a competitor

- Rob Kerr's trade week analysis

Looks like the mind games with Longer started long ago.

TBD's combined Trade/ND assessment has made me feel a lot better about our selections tonight.

I have to admit I was never in the "Longer at 8" camp in the lead up, simply because I was wary of taking a Ruckman that high (Leuey has proven to be a good exception), unless he had the potential to go forward and be effective. And I was not convince about Longer in that regard.

I am over that, now that he is one of ours.

My rankings, given how the picks fell, had me taking Tomlinson, Docherty, Lockyer and Murdoch, which may not have been a bad group, even if somewhat similar in type.
But having "secured" Tomlinson & Docherty with my first two picks, I went with Markworth when pick 30 came around. And at 47 I stuck with Murdoch, but I did have Yeo in the mix here with Tynan & O'Brien.

So that said, I can't really be too unhappy when we've taken "the other available top 10 tall" at 8, the guy I definitely wanted on our roster at 12, and someone I had in the mix (albeit at 47) at 30, meaning I only have to "trust in Hadley" for our final pick.

ps Scared the BeJesus out of "She Who Must Be Obeyed" when I let out an almighty roar when Docherty's name was read out at 12 - I don't think she will want to be in the same room during future Drafts.

pps The dog sh*t itself as well
