byrnes in a pocket , do we beleive dunn will still be there in a couple of years or did he save himself once moved down back at the end of the year ?
Dunn Saved himself. Everything I've read about his position in the team points to him being pretty secure now.

Hi Guys,

Not sure if this has been mentioned but my brother attended draft camp the other week and he came back with an interesting story regarding Melbourne's interviewing strategy. Apparently when Neeld was interviewing one particular kid he was asked to call a horse race for 1 minute. Crazy or innovative? Anyway I thought that might be of interest to you supporters.

Watts and Blease?? Those two are probably the most promising players on our list outside of Viney.
yeah - the only reason I say that Byrnes would be ahead of those 2 is simply due to his age and experience - 2 premierships, Solid consistency, onfield leadership etc...

I agree they are very important players, I just think that Byrnes would have his name read out before both of those guys EVERYTIME the playing list was read out - and not just because his surname starts with 'B' - because if that were the case - Blease would be first.

Apparently if Neeld says jump, you say, how high?

I've heard similar things about Neelds techniques.

I just had a look at his highlights and geez, the kid works hard and moves really well in traffic..Wines and Viney in the team give us 2 wrecking balls...bound to end getting more clearances.

Im all for him!
Not to mention Sylvia, Jones and Tapscott who are all pretty well built in there too!!

Yep, plus - Wines is a genuine inside distributor and deliverer.

He's not just a Brad Sewell (not that he's a bad player, just you wouldn't use a top 5 pick on him).

As long as GWS aren't Moos of the highest order and select three mids with their first three picks I think we'll be getting him.

His highlight clips shows him to be a very good distributor

Would love it if the kid called one of the horses 'My Face' :p

I would imagine it would be testing quick thinking under pressure. Not a bad test when thinking about using the footy under pressure, just testing the psychological aspect.

Having Zoolander flashes about this

Sounds like this. Don't drill sergeants do similar things to get their men disciplined. Seems weird that he's doing it in an interview but if the kid gets all angsty about it at least he knows straight up which ones have attitude problems.

Hey guys could i ask, How was Stefan Martin as a defender? Apparently he played defense i haven't seen a lot of him but what i have seen of him he was a decent Ruckman/Forward. Apparently he is up for trade? Some people on our board thnik he could be a decent Key Defender..

He used to play defence, his leap makes him pretty good.

Some of your fans are suggesting Ray for Martin, which frankly just won't happen though.

I'd do Ray and a third rounder for Martin, then on trade that pick for Pedersen. Saint fans may not be keen on it though...

I can honestly say I rate his best position as a defender.

Yeah, i've heard of that one before.

I think the whole idea is just to get an insight into how the kids react given a task they're in no way prepared for. Probably gives a bit of insight into their personality. It seems really weird, but y'know....i'd want the kid who backs the horse into win that missed the start, copped 3 or 4 checks in transition, was 3 wide most of the journey mid-back of the field, but really knuckled down in the last 400, and found a bit extra to grind out a victory by a long neck!!

No Might & Power's please..

Stef has reasonably good closing speed, so his actual ability to spoil is reasonable

He's not great disposing of the ball under high pressure, which is not a great trait for a someone disposing out of the high pressure modern forward line

Seems he's still on the table with litte interest

He's easily our most overrated player on the Melbourne Board

Melbourne ruckman/forward Stefan Martin remains on the trade table, but The Age reports that to date few clubs have expressed "keen interest" in him.

What you say is true, but how many ruckmen, or any players of his size, actually are "great disposing of the ball under high pressure"? Stef is no worse than Jamar, Spencer, Fitzpatrick, even Clark, or for that matter Sandi, Jolley, Kreuzer, Cox, NicNat ... none of these have great or even reliable disposal under high pressure.

Let's face it, Jamar doesn't get it enough for it to be a problem for him, and usually handpasses it when he does get it. But his disposal by foot (including shots for goal) is overall no better than Stef's.

The whole point is that no team wants the ball to be in the hands of one of their ruckman under high pressure, and will work hard to avoid it happening. But because Stef is often in the thick of it trying to get it out and takers other players on more, he's actually in possession of the ball under high pressure more often than most 198cm+ ruckmen.

am i the only one that believes that picking up Wines may not be the greatest pick? sure the kid is hard and will be a walk up for round 1 but we've already drafted an inside midfielder in Viney and i believe Trengove and Jones and both more inside than outside. I just think that we need a classy outside player who make take a few more years to develop but could really blossom with Viney. In saying this, if Toumpas for some reason dropped to 4 would you take him over Wines?

I would, but Toumpas won't.

Think we made a successful play for Barry for that reason.
