All better than who? Those three listed above? Toumpas and Grundy I'm sure you could make a case for but Whitfield has been the stand out for 12 months.
I'd rather have pick 18 but as they say 'beggars can't be choosers.'

Not Whitfield obviously, but the other two.

True, although who knows how well the others would have gone if they weren't injured. More than likely they would have been terrific but you never know.

im hearing theres a 90% chance Toumpas will be called out at pick by Todd Vney on Thursday

what a steal that would be, this kid is DY-NA-MITE

Salivating at the thought of him tearing up the MCG turf on some blistering runs and goals

That would be huge for the club. I know Wines has been linked also, but Toumpas looks a far better prospect tbh. More class than Wines. Still would be happy with either, but if Toumpas is available at our pick, we would be crazy not to take him. I'd still be surprised to see GWS pass on him. 2 days til we find out I guess, But Viney and Toumpas would be massive for us.

AFL 'mock draft' or 'top 30' has us taking Toumpas at 4; after GWS take Whitfield, O'Rourke and Plowman with their picks...

...however, I disregarded its integrity by having Grundy outside the top 10. I miss the Burgatron's Mock Draft :(
Unless GWS take him in the top 3, and I don't think they will, Grundy will slide big time. Can't see the point of taking a ruckman in the top 10 with the uncertainty of how they'll be able to adapt to the new ruck rules.

Richmond at 9.

As much as I love Wines and set my mind on him joining the Dees... If we pass on Wines because Toumpas is available, I'll only be upset for Wines.

Toumpas will be a huge win for us. He is everything that Wines is, but with pace (and better foot skills, I think).

I'll feel sorry for Wines because he's been talked up by most as a lock for the Dees, and then we may say no because GWS don't take the 2nd best midfielder available. The feel-good story of Wines and Viney's relationship may have blinded a few, including me.

This I agree with, what if he just isn't that good?

This. And that's why I really hope we don't get to choose - better to have just one of them there at pick 4 and save the anguish!
I'd love to have another Jonesy, but with Pick 4 I think we could do better. In a way, it would be far easier to have no choice.

He's certainly been rated as being worthy of a top five pick but I would still take Toumpas. For me it's basically Nathan Jones vs Patrick Dangerfield and in a midfield with no class or speed I'd take Toumpas in a heartbeat. Not saying I wouldn't love another Jones (one with the potential to be even better mind you) but from everything I've seen of Toumpas I'm sold, his speed his awesome, he just doesn't break pace.

I'll be happy with either of them. They both address deficiencies on our list in different ways, and more importantly both have cool names.

Really hope we get Toumpas, have heard some fantastic things about him and think his attributes would really compliment our inside brigade of Jones, Sylvia, McKenzie and Viney.

But if he goes top 3 then I certainly won't be disappointed with Wines either. Him and Viney, Mighty Ducks style!

Demons deny Jack Viney his dream as they opt for late change with Jimmy Toumpas in draft selection

MELBOURNE is set to crush Jack Viney's fairytale by overlooking his best mate with pick four at tomorrow night's draft

Surprised the Hun didn't talk about our recent baby eating policies at training or replacing all our Sherrins with kittens to punt.

Sure it would suck for viney and wines not to be able to play together after all the media hype, but I'm sure they'll still be able to see each other since they'll both probably be playing in Melbourne anyway.

MELBOURNE is set to crush Jack Viney's fairytale by overlooking his best mate with pick four at tomorrow night's draft after a last-minute reshuffle of Greater Western Sydney's top three picks.

Ollie Wines may not be reunited with his good mate Jack Vines, with Melbourne now looking elsewhere after the news GSW may be set to reshuffle its top three selections

The Dees will land South Australian captain Jimmy Toumpas in a draft bonanza, pushing Viney's childhood friend Ollie Wines to the Western Bulldogs at pick five.
Melbourne had not seriously entertained the idea of jagging Toumpas until recently, believing he was Giants-bound with their second pick.
But the Herald Sun can reveal GWS will instead nab devastating outside midfield stars Lachie Whitfield and Jono O'Rourke with its first two picks before calling the name of key defender Lachie Plowman at No.3.
Toumpas will complement Viney supremely, with his polish and slick ball movement the missing ingredient in Mark Neeld's fledging midfield.
The Herald Sun understands the Dees are seeking midfield balance, with Toumpas's outside edge and goalkicking nous pipping hardnut Wines.
Melbourne is known to rank Toumpas ahead of Wines with his outstanding leadership and ball use outweighing fears over his troublesome hips, which underwent surgery mid-year.
The coup gives a major boost to Melbourne's list, with the aggressive Viney set to provide the grunt midfield edge and power forward Jesse Hogan to add significant potency in 2014.
Toumpas dominated in the 2011 SANFL premiership and won All-Australian honours this season.
Viney and Wines were desperate to be reunited, adamant it would drive the competitive duo to reach their potentials.
"No doubt it'd be a dream come true (to get drafted by Melbourne), but I'm not pinning my hopes on it," Wines said.
"But if it did come off then whoah, I'd be over the moon. But fairytales don't always come true, do they?"
Wines learnt his fierce tackling technique from Dees recruiter Todd Viney and only began his junior career when the Vineys moved to Echuca.
"We've always been friends but rivals, too. We're both real competitors and we're never going to let one be better than the other," Viney said.
The draft bombshell means Wines will likely join the Dogs, with his contested-ball winning ability and stoppage brilliance tailor made to coach Brendan McCartney's game plan.
Wines would join a band of six of the toughest young inside midfielders in the AFL at Whitten Oval, along with Mitch Wallis, Tom Liberatore, Koby Stevens, Clay Smith and Lachie Hunter.
As late as last week O'Rourke was believed to be Whitten Oval-bound, but his destructive mix of inside-outside work will add another dynamic to the band of blue-chip ball winners at the Giants.

FWIW Jack Viney when asked on SEN after we confirmed we were taking him who he'd take at our first pick other than Whitfield. He said that he couldn't go past Toumpas who he also said he'd become very good mates with at the AIS or something like that. Maybe an Ireland tour? Anywho i don't think he'd be worried about missing on Wines and he really rates Toumpas.

Bit of a crock considering i've never read anything from the club that suggested we were going to take Wines.

The build up and so called 'fairytale' was created by the media, they asked him would you like to play with one of your best mates; what's he gonna say? "nah screw him"

Just copy the link into google then you will be able to view the whole article
Yeah, I've heard that before. But it doesn't always work. It just seems to me that the person who finds the article in the first place could invest that bit of extra time and make sure everybody else can see it. Whether that's pasting the relevant bit of the article into their post, or posting a working link that everybody can read. That way, the process is done once by one person, rather than 100 people having to do the search thing which varying degrees of success.
