From what I've heard about O'Rourke, he sounds too light weight to punt on. Let another club develop him and we'll take Wines.

My question mark on O'Rourke is this...

Does he have that 'star factor'?

Something that seperates him from a good all round mid you could draft in the 10-30 region.

With Trengove it was his aerial ability on top of a great all round midfielders game, with Scully it was his work in congestion and speed/endurance combination.

With Macrae this year it's his vision and lateral movement, with Toumpas it's his decision making and versatility to compliment his all round game.

I place O'Rourke as one of the more overrated prospects in this years draft, with Whitfield, simply because I'm not sure either of them possess enough standout qualities to hold them in the top 5 of this draft class.
Pretty sure we talked about Whitfield recently but the reason he's tipped to go at number one is because he's not a great all round midfielder...he's a brilliant one. Does everything seriously well.

I'm happy to go Viney, Wines, Kennedy/Vlastuin/Stringer and maybe someone like Nick Graham with our second rounder.

If Viney gets through and we go 2x mids at 3&4, what are people's thoughts on Jaksch or Shaw at P13? I'm not sold on our KPP depth and particularly Jaksch gives us some nice flexibility being able to play at either end.

Both sound very Cook-ish. Midfielder overload plz, or a small like Kennedy or Garlett.

Sounds a little bit like Lynden Dunn!
From that same draft, the last time we had a pick 13 and used it on a forward...some guy we call 'Master'. :D

But I look like the look of someone like Shaw because he's a very good size but not a big size enough so that he dominates through being so much bigger than everyone, a la Tom Hawkins. (Who came good anyway...)

I'm not sold on Membrey. Plays as a tall forward but at 6 foot 2...I dunno.

Dunn, Bate, etc always played as flanker types - Membrey's similarly to Darling.

I don't think he impact games significantly, that's why I'm not sold on him.

He has great skill, great endurance, great speed and general athleticism... has an okay inside game.

He may well go at one but I definitely believe he won't be the best player from this draft.

Definitely see the comparison.

Just a bit iffy on the idea of using pick 13 on someone the size of a medium forward. Although he does play much taller that 188 cm, he's going to end up playing on defenders a lot taller who'll negate his marking abilities comfortably, IMO.

Thinking along the lines of Adam Cooney, are we? ;)

He'll go number one. If not, number two. Zero doubt on that. Simply the best performing midfielder in the juniors thus far. And his inside game will improve yet.

I see Membrey turning into a midfielder actually, he's easily mobile enough to.

Sure, Whitfield will go number one - I'm just not sure that I'd pick him there personally.

I'm sure he'll be a good player, like a Gibbs or Dal Santo - but not sure he'll be the best of this draft.

I'm about 6'2 and Dunn was a fair bit taller than me when I ran into him at the G one day. He's certainly tall enough to be the player he isn't. ;)

IIRC he ended up with 18 disposals, 38 hitouts and 2.1 - he was pretty impressive, his defensive efforts especially were great.

Smart reader of the ball up forward and has a bit of aggro - really mobile for a 18 year old ruck.

Still a bit rough around the edges, so I decided to have a look at Naitanui's work as an 18 year old - Grundy seems to be further ahead, in terms of his coordination and his game sense.

McDonough and Appleton were very impressive as well, with the latter having 15+ clearances as a fairly light bodied player - has great strength over the ball and good lateral movement.

Both would be an option in the 25-50 range I'd say.

Yeah it's a tough one Grundy... If Viney gets through then we'd have to have a look...

I'm starting to think either 4 or 13 will be a tall for us.

As it stands, our spine is:

Frawley - Pick 12
TMc - Pick 54
Jones - Pick 12
Martin - PSD Pick 1
Clark - Pick 12
Jamar - Rookie Draft

I'd really rather get some midfield class in before we go and pick up more speculative talls like Cook and Watts.

Also, that spine is awesome - why do we want to trade Stef

I could deal with Grundy because he has size, but only if Viney goes at 27.

Grundy, Wines, Kennedy, Viney.

Would still rather a mid over Grundy.

Don't like putting all our eggs in the mid basket - don't want to turn into a Carlton.

We've got a quality ruck available, we should take him if we can get Viney 2nd round.
