With their No. 3 pick, the Giants are eyeing Calder Cannons defender Lachie Plowman, who has impressed despite missing four months with a dislocated elbow.

Plowman, 18, was thought to be drifting down the order when he missed the national carnival after surgery restricted him to just six games this year.

But the Giants, who are intent on bolstering their defensive stocks, are set to swoop on the rebounding backman after calling the names of midfield pair Lachie Whitfield and Jimmy Toumpas with the first two picks next Thursday night.

Probably doesn't change who we'll take with pick 4, but I would be a bit pissed if GWS snapped up the 3 best mids with those picks. looks like Wines is ours (based on the reports of this reputable source, the HUN).

As long as we don't take Grundy (assuming his availability), ill be happy.
:thumbsu: I reckon Grundy will be the big slider in the draft. Clubs are now smart enough to realise that the success rate of ruckmen taken early in the draft is poor. Plus you can now try to poach a mature aged ruckman through free agency without wasting 4-5 years of development with little return.

I'll be pumped to get either Toumpas or Wines. Love the idea of Wines teaming up with Viney and others in the middle for years to come but Toumpas is a farking good footballer. We'll be stoked as a club to get either of them.

Would those of us on the board take Toumpas over Wines?

Toumpas please. Inside and outside. Quick. Nice kick. Has played against the men for the last two years. Senior premiership player in 2011 so knows what it takes. No way will he last till pick 4 though.

The only thing I don't like about Toumpas is that he said he wants to model his game on Bryce Gibbs... apart from that I love him.

Hopefully, like DT and SC coaches everywhere, he's hoping to model it on the soon-to-be-released Malthouse version of Gibbs.

don't know if it means much right now but apparently theres been news going around the GWS aren't going to pick Toumpas. Somebody tweeted Emma Quayle asking whether at this point they would pass on him and she said yes. She also said she will know by Tuesday. I thought there was no chance Toumpas would slide to us. Thoughts?

We'd have to take him, but won't be unhappy if we don't

Why is that HFF? If the player rated second best in the draft slipped through to us at pick 4, it would be an early Xmas present for us, surely???

plus he adds that outside polish and class that wines doesn't give us. Also considering were pretty much picking up a 'better' Wines in Viney

I've kind of set on Wines, so I'd not be so upset.

Would rather have both over one and Hogan, to be honest.

Rated second best doesn't necessarily mean he is the best fit for our club - having said that I'd be stoked if Toumpas slipped through to us. Grundy is a good example as he is rated very highly as one of the best rucks to come through in years yet it looks as though he could slip down the order.

I can't see us using pick 70, rather saving that spot for PSD3.

Even with 49 & 53 well be up against it. I don't see the point in going safe here, we have an abundance of middle of the road types who are giving honest service like Tom McDonald, lets roll the dice on a couple of speculative "live wires" who might need a little bit of work.

With 2 or 3 Dom Barry types we improve our chances of one of them coming good and Rodan and Bynres won't be on our list forever, they are simply buying us some time and offering an injection of leadership.
