Not sure that we're in a position to be denying membership to anyone :P

It was a tongue in cheek comment - but I think you got that. :)

This continued comparison with the Saints membership numbers has become quite comical... yeah it's a good thing that we're better than someone at something, but do we need to keep going on about it?

it's not meant to be comical at all. It's a comparison to the closest club in regards to membership figures.

St Kilda are in a similar situation as we are this year with a new coach (Both from collingwood), both clubs making 40,000 members it's target, and the figures have seesawed since the preseason. It's purely there to guage how we are going. As I stated in the previous post - since winning a couple of games their numbers have jumped - as would ours if we started winning.

It's next year we need to worry about. If we don't show some real progress in the second half of the year, we could easily drop back below 30,000.

Plus three tonight got the fiancé and the old girl signed up. Nice of Nathan jones to call my mum and surprise her. I dont think the cash for her membership would have been worth putting up with the 5 min chat he had with her. He did well listening to her rants about bailey ahahaha.

Classic, did she at all use the phrase: "Now back in my day"

Most likely she gave him a spiel about the 64 grand final and must have been uncomfortable for him if she gave him half the spray about bailey that I cop every week.

Hoping that number isn't including the telethon numbers, since that's a pretty pathetic bump if it does.

It was more of a 'you call us' deal from the club. Very silly IMO.

33,679

We've just passed our final 2010 figure of 33,358 so this year will either be our best or 2nd best year for membership. Not bad given some of the trials and tribulations we've gone through in the past 3 months.

Last years record is 36,937, we'll go close.

Unfortunately, No we won't.

Well, relative to our 2010 figure we'll be close, we still might be a 1000 or so short though.

Respectfully RandB. But why would anyone want to buy a membership to watch the tripe the players dish up, week after week? It drives me insane.

Why would Richmond supporters be as staunch as they've been over the last 3 decades watching similar events unfold?

I think we've got a pretty loyal and determined support base, and the fact our membership numbers are virtually unaffected by the dire year we're having on the field speaks volumes about that.

Ditto for the fact that we've set consecutive membership records over and over throughout the last 6 years, in spite of the fact that we've been bottom of the ladder twice, and not finished higher than 12th since 2006.

Am I right in thinking though that from the first Bailey year, each year we've either done better or equalled the ladder position of the year before?

This year we won't.

No - went from 12th to 13th last year, of course...

It's the new members the club is trying to attract and supposed 10K members from last year that havent signed up, that I was trying to refer to Wona, not the core loyal supporter base.

Not sure how to answer that other than to say it went up by 400 since the last update. I agree it's a head scratcher but going on this trajectory 35k could be attainable by June 30 which isn't bad tbh.
