Deledio is older. Even if he wasn't injured (and he has admitted himself he has injury concerns) his age alone means there is a high risk his form will fall away. Age is especially not kind to players who have relied on their pace to be elite.
Who would you rather as a 30 year old
Lewis or Deledio
I know what side on standing on

Last week I hated the idea of Caddy for Deledio, now I'm warming to it a lot.
We have SS, Mengola, Duncan, Guthrie and now Deledio to go through the middle
Caddy on the forward flank is ok, but Deledio On the forward flank is elite.
He's skills are better, his outside game is stronger.
Deledio has the tendency to kick bags of 2 or more
In 2014 he kicked 2 or more and had over 20 touches in 6 games
3 of those games he had over 26 and the other 2 games he had over 29 including a 29 and 3 goal game against the swans.
So he actually plays these good games against strong opposition.

In 2015 he kicked 2 or more 7 times.
Including 3 games of which he kicked 3 goals.
1 game he kicked 4 against the Hawks and had 18 touches, another strong performance against a strong team.

In 2016 he only played 9 games but had a return of 2 games in which he kicked 3 goals in each.

He gets a strong amount of tackles, something I wasn't aware of until I am looking up his stats now.
In 2013 he averaged 3.7 tackles a game
2014 2.7
2015 3.1
2016 3.5

So from what I have gathered he brings up another great option up forward and someone to swap Danger with to rest.
Can bring in some forward line pressure and his disposal efficiency has been above 70% for the past 3 seasons
Averages over 300 meters gained over the past 3 seasons.
Averages around 4 inside 50's over the past 5 season.

So after all that I have come to the conclusion of I want Deledio in the blue and white hoops next season.

Deledio - 20 to 30 games probably.

Caddy - 120+ games probably.

It's a no brainer.

Trading Caddy for Lids (even if we get a second as well) is diabolical and stupid.

By all means, get Lids he will give us 20ish quality games, but it doesn't mean we have to overpay. It's like paying $4,500 for a bottle of water. It's just stupid.

The measuring stick is what the Dees trade for Lewis. They are not trading Tyson for him... no.. they will trade a late pick. That's what 30 year olds a worth.

No. He wants too much money. If he was willing to come on our terms ..sure.
He wouldn't be too far off to what Deledio would be on and 4 years younger. He would be a gun in a team that is up there. Winning culture and a well run club to get him to pull his head in.

guess it depends on the assessed 'need'... if i was stranded without supplies in the atacama desert, by the end of the 2nd day that bottle of water for $4,500 would be looking like a bargain!

if deledio is viewed as an 'immediately essential piece', overpaying might (perhaps should) happen. personally hope he isnt and it doesnt, but im quite far removed.

Even if they had cap space how are they going to trade for them? They have given up next years first and this years first assuming they trade pick 10 for omera. They can't trade their 2018 first as a result of the rule. They have nothing left except players and Fyfe ain't gonna come cheap in terms of player trades.
Don't get me wrong, I'm with you on that. I was just expressing my general mystification at their moves this trade period.

Pies have possibly lost a lot of KP depth with Brown gone and Frost and Marsh also wanting out. So it wouldnt surprise me if they had asked about Lonergan.

I meant surely he wouldn't go to the pies. Didn't he turn down a massive offer from the doggies a couple of years ago? He would still be best 22 for Geelong next year right?
Geelong offered him a $$$ deal below his expectations to play on next year. He was still pretty good this year but Geelong screwed with their structure playing 4 key backs most weeks. I think it is probably time to move on, if Pies give him some super $$$ good for him.

More than happy for Lonergan to explore options elsewhere. Based on their FA moves to date, the Pies would probably be dumb enough to offer him three years whereas we are probably offering one with the potential of VFL time.

Your figures of numbers played show you think he will only continue playing AFL for two years tops

If we get Deledio and a second round pick and then on trade that for touhey then we have filled 2 massive problems
Within our team.
Get it done

Hawkins about to be on Trade Radio. I imagine he will be asked about Caddy, Motlop, Deledio and Tuohy.
Look forward to some "I'm not aware of that..", "I'm sure the club will do the requisite due diligence", "Motlop is a much loved player", etc etc.

Deledio. But only cos he fits our needs more. Lewis looks like costing a third rounder. A mid to late second rounder sounds about right in comparison for Deledio. Caddy alone is worth a high second rounder atleast given that is what an uncontracted hill got.

So if we did the deal and effitictivly ended up with Deledio and Touhey for Caddy
2 players who fit our needs would you be opposed to the deal?
