And yes, you can see why the AFL put the limits on future picks.

The Redskins did a similar , but not as bad overall, deal for RGIII -gave up 3 Rd1 picks and a Rd2.

BUST...

Just a mess.

I dont understand US sports but they do make great movies... and watching Draftday..one did get a little insight into one of the issues .The character Costner played wanted his turn , his team etc etc. I read a few articles on Futures , you may have referenced a couple of them and there were numerous examples of selling the future to get what they wanted now.. and more often that not , it crashed.
I think our rules could be tweaked but the intent is good , and I don't think the separation between coach and recruitment manager is as great in AFL is displayed in that movie. I could imagine being in Wells position and after a solid year or more of work to then just trade all the picks our could be a bit disheartening.

Of course in rear vision can be embarrassing , and its not restricted to trading. Who picked Sam Bowie again?

Last year we were after geary (saints) yeah? 2E is a better runner than him.
Carlton should take billie and a pick prob second rounder.

Woundnt mind a younger player like Cole or bonner but that won't happen.
I'd think we would be relatively keen on him - part of a Vardy deal with the Eagles?

I'd prefer to keep Billie, I still have faith that he will be a good player if Scott plays him forward like he is supposed to be played.
I think he will be played back less spots up for grabs.
Forward Lang, caddy, gregson, cocky, mez, etc all will spend time forward IMHO.

But agree billie is more a forward will be interesting if he can stay fit enough to show he's worth.

Deledio deal has been canned guys, its pretty obvious, let him stay at that rabble for another year then next year they can get nothing for him when he walks out the door. Tuohy deal also looks to be heading same way...greedy bloody clubs wanting way overs for players is ridiculous.
Forcing blokes to stay when they've asked to leave is exactly why those two clubs have the piss poor cultures they do.

There has been very little to suggest he will get anywhere near his supposed potential yet he takes a list spot and money from the club. He is no Menzel or Cowan.

You would honestly rather keep Smedts than trade him for Tuohy? Wow.... Tuohy would slot straight into our best 18 in a position that we desperately need. I would drive Smedts to Optus Oval if they wanted him for Tuohy.

I think the Deledio position taken by the Tigers highlights the pressure they are under. They to me feel as though they have to sell big wins to their supporters.

Note backing down on the Caddy deal and keeping Deledio could be sold a s a win.

I really don't understand how the Tigers could think we will do a straight swap.

Getting a pick for a wantaway player is a win for them. That said, actually fielding a team thats competitive should be classed as a win for them.

Did i say that? I said i would prefer to keep Billie, never said anything about not getting Tuohy, i just think with a decent run at it he could be a good forward for us, in the couple of games he had back in the VFL this year he dominated, has talent.

You replied to the comment "Carlton should take Billie and a pick for Tuohy" with "I'd rather keep Billie"...

If I somehow misunderstood that then I apologize

All good I meant that I would rather keep Billie and trade someone or something else for Tuohy. I know that Billie is highly rated by the club, why else would they keep him on the list for so long, he is in that group of players (Menzel, Cowan, Vardy) who has great talent but has had injury setbacks, I think Cowan is a good example of why we should stick with him.

With what the Tigers and Blues are throwing up as trades, i am starting to understand why they have struggled the last 20 years.
I thought Essendon were the worst traders in the league but the past week has made me reconsider.
