On that same link, the very same page and posted one hour apart:

COME ON PEOPLE! GFC are quality operators, there's is no way we'd trade out a contracted Caddy for pick 24 or 27. Gee whiz.
On the day they finally secured Dion Prestia from the Suns, Richmond appears certain to claim Josh Caddy from Geelong and trade Brett Deledio to the GWS Giants for a first round pick.

Two different trades.
Ill leave now....
Good luck in 2017

There is some good stuff in your post there but the reality is journalism has gone from researching stories, interviewing sources and putting it into print to (and especially with football journalism) making up speculation like a predictor magician and passing it off as journalism. So given 90 % of the time journos do this and get paid for it and not called out on it, to then complain when no one believes them the 10 % of the time they write something true, is 'the boy who cried wolf' stuff.

Although we as people and our appetite to believe and regurgitate rubbish rumours has a lot to do with-I tend to believe you get the journalism you deserve and as society we don't deserve better because we don't demand better.
10%? Every single trade is reported by the media first.

My take on things:

- Tuohy and Carlton's R2 2017 for Smedts and Geelong's R1 2016 = Slightly below par at worst and slightly above par at best.
- Vardy for pick 54 = par. Pick 34 is fantasy land stuff.
- Kersten for pick 40 = par. Pick 63 is below par.
- Caddy for pick 15 = par. Pick 27 is completely unacceptable. I suspect (hope), there will be a player from GWS involved.

Obviously the last 3 deals are speculative at this stage but that's my assessment of things as they currently sit. Not sure what all the fuss is about.

Completely agree.........Geelong seem intent on undoing all of last years good work at the trade table.
With so many outs and retirements who the f*** is coming in to fill the void?

Really disappointing thus far......everybody seems proactive, Geelong seem stagnant

On common sense or a source?
Common sense. Most of what is getting bandied about in the media seems pretty thin on anything based on hard evidence.

Aside from the deal being touted making no sense at all, in light of the deal that could have been done earlier, all of the quotes from the people involved suggest Josh Caddy is a required player at Geelong, and is more than happy to be so.

Now maybe I haven't being paying attention enough, but I don't recall our club spinning mountains of BS during trade week. Our deals go down the way they are supposed to, without baseless speculation or subterfuge.

And you get an added bonus of being able to get away on the end of the season trips 4 weeks earlier.
Nah. Only three weeks earlier. I reckon we're now quite capable of losing another elimination final next year.

Brief synopsis of this thread:

Do a trade.
Why hasn't a trade been done yet?
What the hell is going on? Just trade already.
Wells is crap. Should retire.
*trade gets done*
Why was that trade done?
That's ridiculous, we've been dudded with that trade.
Wells is crap. Should retire.
That's brilliant!!

Mostly right the 5th time 5 minutes before it's about to drop after they have predicted it wrongly 4 times. Look at how many journos have had Deledio to do Geelong for months. Most of their speculation is wrong. Even Mark Stevens admitted (unwittingly) in his own tweet today that he is just guessing. You guys shouldnt buy it.

Can we get a public service announcement out there to confirm to every that:

1. Caddy is contracted
2. No deal has been done
3. Stephen Wells and Dan Richardson have both confirmed Caddy is happy to stay at the Cats
4. Geelong won't trade him for a pick in the 20s on its own
Media won't report that doesn't support their theory.

Maybe that's true but if you assume he will keep doing it then we haven't given much have we? None of Thurlow or Lang or Guthrie or Menzel were picked as first rounders by many people in their drafts, no one had Cockatoo top 10 (which is why the afl flew him up very very rate when we indicated we'd pick him) ironically enough the last bloke we picked in the first round who was predicted to go there was Smedts who most people had going to GC before 15. So really when you look at the data we are not giving up much.
I thought we traded up to get Lever . . . . . He'd be handy right about now.

Oh come on. That's just untrue.
Mark Stevens, I will give you, seems to blow in the wind but not all media.
People seem to take stock in the media depending on if they like what they are saying or not.

Yep. Again, this is proving the exact point I was making about confirmation bias in my original point. People ignore when journalists/the media get things right and disproportionally exaggerate the stuff they get wrong.
We don't ignore it we just realise they make things up far more than they ever did 20 years ago. TBH things like twitter have made it much worse now as there is no fact checking required or no editor to get past, speculation can just be posted and even if it's wrong by the time it's shown to be wrong 500k of people will have already retweeted it anyway.

Jackson thurlow is ready made and already 100% better than thuoy and younger
I'm disappointed they've used 2017 draft picks for Tuohy, but it's done now.... or will be tomorrow.

I just hope they don't think that replacing Enright with Tuohy is going to solve everything.
We need run and we need youth in our defence, which is why IMO Thurlow, Bews and Kolodjashnij have to play down there for the majority if not all year.

If that means forcing out guys like Mackie then so be it.

Even he said it. He posted that Richmond were into Caddy and he would be traded for a 2nd rounder.

And then after posted a tweet that it would be great IF it happens.

In other words he has no idea he is just guessing and hoping, but trying to pass it off as if he does know.

Unfortunately twitter allows that pretty easily which is why I am not a massive fan of it.
