Trading out 3 first rounders in 3 years will be a disaster, 2E deal could've been done without a first round pick surely?
The Dangerfield trade is a winner & the Hendo one so far so good.
Relax, the landscape has changed.
The top young players drafted this year will walk out and into new clubs in 2-3 years time.

From the outside looking in I'm done.
We have officially lost the plot, from my point of view the back half of this year we were a 5-8 side, and on the slide.
Overpaying for everything we get (danger excluded), lack of development, terrible at the draft for last decade, inability to build on anything since 2012 and slowly wasting away till Scott and wells try and throw a Hail Mary in an attempt to buy a premiership. Makes me throw up.
If anyone out there can tell me buying a premiership and throwing away the future is as satisfying as build a density a la 2004-2011 is just lying and kidding themselves.
I thought you were better than that Geelong.
Just one year before our last flag Footscray were in 3 consecutive prelims, bottomed out, have a gun young list and a flag.
Pathetic pathetic pathetic.
For all those saying a downgraded pick is not a big deal, look at the quality difference over history of 10-20 compared to 20-30.
Scott is useless, wells best work has been blitz in the last decade (guthries dad anyway) and we are now a soft corporate club. The Arsenal of the AFL.
Scott isn't half the coach or teacher bomber was, our assistants are stale and wells would overpay at a 2$ shop and couldn't pick an apple off an apple tree.
The team is average, riding on the back of danger-wood.
Completely disfuntional forward line, dismal slow ball movement, with an inability to stop teams scoring quickly, st kilda, Carlton, Collingwood, even had massive periods of dominance against us this year and beat us because of it.
Lapses in effort, b grade performers, and a complete unknown of what type of side will turn up from week to week.
To many players just don't turn up, soft, soft, soft.
Sydney first quarter prelim was just pathetic, and the club thinks we are close?

Danger was a mistake, I'm saying it, great player but has put the club back 5-10 years as a consequence ala Judd. One man teams don't win premierships, hanging a hope on one player is just ridiculous. If he doesn't come the club after finishing 10th, might have really seen where they are at...below average and nothing coming through.

"Oh but we were one win away from a gf" some say, well if anyone seriously thinks we could have beating GWS, Footscray or the swans in the form they were in should be in a asylum, say hello to wells and Scott for me, I'm sure their eating their own feces or throwing it at each other.

I'm done Geelong, I hope you do well, let me know when you pull your finger out of your ass and take a good look in the mirror, I'll buy a membership again then.

Until then....
dont let the door hit you on the way out!!

I'm pretty baffled by the alleged salary cap issues.

Are we paying Motlop way more than anyone thinks? Have we handled the deals of Selwood, Danger, Hawkins, Motlop, Taylor, etc. badly and they are all being paid in bulk in 2017?

Because I can't understand if we are potentially moving on Caddy for $$$ as Quayle suggested yet were even fathoming the possibility of adding Deledio.

Also unsure how the cap was never a huge issue for us during our glory run yet is now.
How much do you guys think those players are getting?

Is Motlop on like $600k? A reliable source on our board said there was SERIOUS discussions about you trading Duncan for Tuohy (maybe some pick swaps to). Actually our 2 most reliable sources both mentioned it.

We all thought it was crazy since Duncan is a good and seemingly important player, but the source is reliable and said Geelong's motivation was in party due to Duncan's massive contract...apparently around $650k which is mind boggling...he's good but not THAT good.

And Carlton rejected the proposal due to said contract.

Yep. I am beyond comprehension. It's like AFL said "let's see who has won premierships in last 10 years...arghh... Geelong And Hawthorn, rigtho, send the 2 lobotomy's there"
Cats went, lie down and start drilling into Wells cortex...pls go for it

Seems like there's a lot of negativity towards Wells for stuff that hasn't yet happened. Lets wait and see what happens before we throw the toys out of the pram.
I agree but if all the rumours become true wells is playing real life SuperCoach and he is f@&king s:;t at it....

Nope. And the Deledio to Geelong speculation wasn't baseless at all. The clubs had discussions. So, once again, the journalists were correct. But let's go through the 2016 trade period, shall we?

Brad Hill to Freo: trade possibility first reported on months ago.
Jack Steele to St Kilda: trade possibility first reported on weeks ago.
Sam Mitchell to West Coast: story broken days before trade went through.
Tom Mitchell to Hawthorn: trade possibility first reported on months ago.
Jordan Lewis to Melbourne: story broken days before trade went through.
Pearce Hanley to Gold Coast: story broken last week.
Dion Prestia to Richmond: story broken months ago.
Toby Nankevis to Richmond: story broken this week.
Joel Hamling to Fremantle: story broken not long after Grand Final.
Cameron McCarthy to Fremantle: story broken literally over a year ago.

None of these stories dropped 5 minutes before the trade went through. Yes, it's true that some of them the media found out only through "formal" channels when the player's trade request was released to the club website, but still, nearly all of these links were being reported on by journalists well before the trades went through and most of them were reported before trade requests were lodged or the relevant player agents had spoken publicly about the possibility of any move occurring.
I think thou protesters too much?
Are you a journalist?
Is that you Robbo?

The cap space issue could also be for next year. It's been reported that the Hawks have cap.space issues but they are clearing the decks to make a play for Fyfe. Who''s to say we aren't doing something similar which is why Deledio didn't fit into our plans.

It's not just that. It now means that:

2010 First Round Pick - Billie Smedts: Gone.
2011 First Round Pick - Joel Hamling: Gone.
2012 First Round Pick - Jackson Thurlow: Returning in 2017 after an ACL (that's no one's fault).
2013 First Round Pick - Darcy Lang. Still there.
2014 First Round Pick - Nakia Cockatoo. Still there.
2015 First Round Pick - Traded for Dangerfield.
2016 First Round Pick - Traded for Henderson.
2017 First Round Pick - Traded for Tuohy.

Interesting reading.
Hamling wasn't a 1st rounder. The draft in '11 went 26 picks deep into the "first round" but we traded our 26 for 32 (Hamling) and 34 (Kersten). What is more pertinent is this perhaps:

2003. Tenace. BUST
2004 Traded in part for Ottens. BIG TICK
2005 Varcoe PASS MARK
2006 Selwood BIG TICK
2007 TAYLOR. BIG TICK
2008 Brown. BUST
2009 Menzel. BIG TICK (unlucky)
2010 Smedts. BUST (for us),
2011. Traded down 26 for Hamling and Kersten. BUST (for us)
2012. Thurlow. Promising but too early for forecast.
........ *Caddy for 1st round compo pick. PASS MARK
2013 Lang. Too early for forecast
2014. Cockatoo. Too early for forecast
2015. Traded in part for Dangerfield. BIG TICK.
2016. Traded for Henderson. BIG TICK.

This, to me, illustrates the overvaluing of draft picks, even first rounders. On the four occasions we've traded out genuine firsts (disregard '11 as 26 is end of 2nd round in reality), I've assessed we've come out with 3 Big Ticks and 1 pass mark. This represents a success ratio far above the 3 Busts, 1 pass mark, and 3 Big Ticks from 7 draft attempts. I actually quite like the Tuohy trade for this reason. We receive a known quantity, and still get back an attractive enough pick to try our luck in the draft. It's the best case scenario IMO. Drafting is an inexact science with lots of variables, and Wells often reaches with his first pick. Honestly, barring when we have a really premium pick (inside 10 say) I wish we could trade down our first for a known quantity every year, and look to hit the draft in the 20-50 range.

Mate cmon this is the same Wells that creamed the trade period last year. Give him some credit we will see.
creamed the trade period? bwahhahahaha....all he did was bring in players who wanted to come and paid more than he had to in every single transaction.

I thought Motlop was around 550k.

Duncan on 650k? Outrageous.
The source said his contract is 'daisyesque' as in Dale Thomas.

Which yes, is outrageous money to be paying Duncan.

Geelong seem to have inexplicably got themselves in a salary cap bind...even with Bartel and Enright retiring which is surprising.
You guys have done so well since 2007 to keep contracts reasonable and get players to 'buy in' and not pay overs...dont know why that would change.
