I don't understand the benefit of getting pick 15 for Caddy. By the time that pick actually comes to fruition - probably 4-5 years from now - we are going to be propping up the ladder anyway. Based on our current list and picks the best chance we have of winning a flag seems to be 2017 and the following couple of years. Baffles me why, if we're intent on trading Caddy, we don't go for someone who's going to have an immediate impact on our flag chances (like Deledio). No melting here but I do struggle to see the logic in some of this.

I cant understand why we would just give away pick 63 as well, I just dont get it, the deal was already overs for Tuohy.
How was it overs? A best 18 player and possibly pick 15-18 (assuming we do as well as last year) for smedts (who isnt best 22) and their second rounder which if they finish bottom 4 (good chance if they lose tuohy and gibbs) will be pick 19-23 coming back.

Kertsen is unfortunate, late pick of 63 is irrelevant, I'd assume we use a later pick than that to upgrade Ruggles anyway.

So our trade period looks like this so far.

Out: Enright, Bartel (Retired), Kersten, 2017 1st Rounder, Pick 63
In: Tuohy, 2017 2nd round

Whoever thinks that looks good has rocks for brains especially since we could lose Vardy for peanuts and get reamed with Caddy.

But Tuohy also isnt worth a 1st rounder let alone a 1st rounder + player + 4th rounder.
well smedts and 4rd are not worth much, in fact would go to say they would have delisted the lad tomorrow now all we have done is taken a 6 spot drop in the draft to sign Tuohy a 1st rd late is good as a 2nd rd early pick

Richmond has secured talented on-baller, Josh Caddy from Geelong on a four year deal in the 2016 Trade period, in exchange for Richmond’s pick 24 and 64 in this year’s National AFL Draft.

Richmond also receive Geelong’s third round selection, pick 56 in the deal.

So rucks like Witts and Nankervis are in demand if Vardy had of played more this year we could have got something better but he didnt, Medium sized forwards are not in demand is why Kersten I valued at pick 50-65 so we got the low end of that deal as Freo didnt have a pick they wanted to give up, it's not Geelong culture to screw players over at trade time, so why they didnt send Kersten to the draft
Agree we don't need to be the club that screws over players with no future with us and not assist them getting to a more suitable home. It sends a terrible message if we were to send him to the draft. Sets a dangerous precedent for what other players think about our club and whether or not they would want to be part of it.

Yet again, I really think we should have chased Taberner as part of the deal. Mostly likely Kersten + GHS for Taberner + mid-range Freo pick. We avoid getting ourselves into an unreasonable/messy trade, but simultaneously address the forward depth and structure-related issues. The prospect of an additional inside mid (GHS) playing alongside Fyfe and Bennell might have proven attractive enough for the Dockers to take this.

As for Richmond, no deal if they think 27 is acceptable for Caddy. Beginning to sound like Hawthorn with their incessant, unreasonable demands as the interested buyer this trade period. Need to offer up something acceptable (i.e. #15 for Caddy and maybe a 65+ pick) if they're actually fair dinkum.

Hilarious given that blokes like Tom Mitchell were traded for pick 14.

And you want 15 for Caddy haha.

RFC has picks 24 & 27, I'd be offering GEE pick 24 at best, 15 is too high. If he doesn't budge no problem for anybody really...
