Getting rid of Sam Mitchell is no different to Geelong turfing out the likes of Johnson and Chapman, and unlike Geelong, Hawthorn will probably get something decent back for Mitchell and have also immediately filled his spot with another quality player 10 years his junior.
I would agree with you if they were axing say Gibson or Lewis. Kicking out your reigning best and fairest is a different story though. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Chappy or Johnson weren't top 10 B&F in their last year at the Cats.

As far as replacements, you probably have a point with Chappy, I can't remember who replaced him - whether it factored into the game time of Guthrie, Caddy, Duncan etc.

With Johnson, I think the club were hedging their bets on Menzel and McCarthy being that 8-10 year junior replacement rather than needing to seek a trade from outside. Our forward line depth was such that he still could've fit in, likely at the expense of Bartel in hindsight. But that appears to have been the logic. Moving clubs brought the best out of him. I would've liked to keep him, but I'm glad he went on and did well.

Edit - as mentioned above, cap space to fit in guys like Danger and Hendo was the other factor. We'd just missed finals so moving on Stokes, Kelly and SJ for Hendo, Smith and Danger seemed a better bet to get us back there. Again with Chappy, probably more of a fail. Who'd we ship in - HMac and Clark? Ha, that went well.

It's really quite amazing. Geelong gave up pick 16 for Henderson. Hawthorn give up 14 for Tom Mitchell.

One was a guy who had looked thoroughly mediocre at Carlton for years; the other a proven midfield gun and finals performer.

Still haven't answered that question. Your baiting is pretty lame tbh.
Henderson was a fair price. You keep running your mouth about us getting bent over but can't answer the question presented disputing that fact.

Your post presents plenty of cases of Geelong paying overs. I shouldn't have to point them out.
No. It doesn't at all.
The notion we're a soft touch is unfounded. We're a fair trading club, don't waste other clubs time and do things the right way.

You perceive it that way wrongly, not getting an overs deal doesn't mean we've been bent over.
The body of recent evidence hardly proves your point.

Doing things the right way is getting the best value possible. That's why the Hawks do trading the right way. They got a first-round pick for Jed Anderson last year. They get Tom Mitchell for pick 14 this year. This is after a slew of bargains in the late 00's/early '10s that helped them build their premiership sides. I don't know why Geelong can't negotiate these sorts of deals too.

Yawn. Still got not rebuttals I see.
You're wrong. You were in 2014 when I first called you out on this. Were last trade period when you ran the same tired agenda.

Guess what, you're still wrong now.

it is so when I show why it is so and you repeatedly don't refute that. Sort of an admission you've got nothing.
Saying we're a soft touch doesn't make it so just because you say it.
You say Geelong didn't get bent over on a bunch of trades throughout the last few years; I disagree. What more do you want?

your still bittering and sulking about everything? Try to keep it to the Scott threads and not stink up everything else with your dribbling.

Henderson was a 25 yo key position defender and after his 16 season it's obvious he is well worth what we paid, he is our best key defender by far now and with or ageing defence post it's obvious it was well worth it.

We get bent over in trades, have a shit coach, no game plan, poor player culture, hang on to too many injury riddled players.

Just imagine if we sorted all this out we would be simply unbeatable.

One was made to look good in a superstar midfield. Let's see how he goes being the #1 midfielder.

Henderson is a much better player. Midfielders are a dime a dozen.
