Still no talk about Lonergan and Bartel's contracts. I wonder where they are at.

The more I've thought about this, the more I think we should go for broke with trading this year's picks away for WHE, Lids and Tuohy, on the proviso we can fit them in the salary cap and do not lose a best 22 player. The only reason we should deviate from this strategy is if we have a player in mind in the draft where we need the early picks, and that player could be up and running in the next season or two. We are in the window and we went this strategy last season and should stick to it this off-season. I would be looking at Stewart in the draft, and maybe House in the rookie draft.

We now have a stack of rookie spots available, which can bring in some youth for little cost.
Yeah I think I agree. I'm usually very pro-drafting and bringing in youth strategy.

After last year my thoughts were that we needed to trade back into this draft as we have a real void of quality young talent, but we simply can not compete with GWS. They already have more young talent and have 5 picks before us in this years draft.....there's no way we can win playing that game. May as well chance it and try and bring in ready talent and see if we can pinch a flag.

Maybe that was norths thought process, tried to get ready talent and steel one before GWS kicked in.

You're referring to a very small minority of the 800+ blokes on AFL lists.
Nah, I'm ranting about every little shit in his 20s that I see, every friggin' day. Livin' at home, pumped full of steroids, drivin' flash - throwin' cash - all in crappy clothes, hangin' around cafes, textin' their bets while chatting up the waiting staff who get paid crappola having to put with the privileged muthas.

I'd say 80% of footlballers under 26 fall into this category.

It's really quite amazing. Geelong gave up pick 16 for Henderson. Hawthorn give up 14 for Tom Mitchell.

One was a guy who had looked thoroughly mediocre at Carlton for years; the other a proven midfield gun and finals performer.
We possibly hadn't determined just how strong this years draft is now. Rd1 picks are holding much higher currency this year than in the past, clubs very reluctant to trade them. I'm really happy with hendo, think he has been worth it but we may not have foreseen the currency of 16 in this years draft.

Haven't been following today. What'd I miss?
Mayne to pies freo pick 23 compo.

Tmitchell to haw for 14 and later picks.

Smitchell probably traded from haw to wce.

Geelong say no to caddy dogs possibly want deledio.

Kersten requests trade to freo, vardys destination up in the air.

I thought they stopped that loophole? Any picks a team trades for this year can't be used for academy points that same year.
This is incorrect.

What the loophole was that teams could take an unlimited number of picks to the draft. So teams just stockpiled a large number of low picks which are overvalued from a points perspective relative to their trade worth.

Now teams can only take in as many picks as they have primary list spots available.

Now that mayne is done i would imagine kersten gets done quickly. Hopefully we get a better deal than the dogs because we are ready and hamling is still deciding.

I still expect deledio will try and get to us but not fussed if he chooses dogs dont want to overpay. Definitely want tuohy who is younget and will be cheaper. I hope we can trade in a replacement kpf and some more outside run.

Be interesting to see where vardy ends up if the richmond thing falls through.
I am not happy with deledio speaking with wb after nominating geelong. That doesnt seem right. Obviously wants out of tigers though. Maybe trying not to drop his income. Nominate and stick. All over the shop otherwise

You also missed the flock of Deludio Richmond supporters claiming that Caddy had sat down for a meeting with them whilst he is sippin on saki in Japan

Has he nominated Geelong? He has been public with his "interest" in joining Geelong. From what I understood his management approached Geelong and were told it would be difficult.

If Geelong moved on their champion best and fairest to pay Ty Vickery half a million dollars, I doubt posters here would be applauding Geelong's brilliant strategy.
Wasn't sure what you were talking about here as overseas on holiday, then done a quick search and I cant believe it. Certainly is a interesting trade period, but with mitchell gone Hawks are crashing bad.

I dont mind so long as we get a pick inside 50 i am just staggered he would choose them.
Well, since our second fiddle to Hawkins role has been an issue for four years and counting, I think it could be argued that there wouldn't be many easier places to get a game than Geelong, for a player of Vardy's ilk.

Might have already been mentioned incidentally, but does anyone else find it pretty infuriating when we hear about the salary cap squeeze, when someone like Mackie got a two year deal at the end of 2015 and other players that are in their fifth and sixth years on the list are locked in, but can't get out of the VFL?

What do the Geelong fans on here see as the likely trade value for Kersten now he's indicated he's keen on coming over to the Dockers?? Not here to cause trouble, just trying to get a gauge on what the fans think is likely to happen.
Would have hoped for pick 34 or a player I'm disappointed to lose Kersten. He's exactly the player we need. And I think he'll be a good player. Not a star but a solid player probably similar to the player your losing in Mayne.
