the draw evens itself up over 2 seasons...unlike the AFL draw.

Thunderbirds were a bit ordinary last night though, a few strange umpiring decisions, but we just weren't good enough. Our defence once again struggled against the Swifts. It's been that way for about 3 years now.

come on girls! - we need to desperately beat the Firebirds on Saturday arvo.

This isn't true is it? All the NZ teams play each other twice this year and the Australian sides once and vice versa. I believe this is a money saving and convenience issue for the league. To even it up over 2 seasons the Aussies would be flying to NZ almost every second week next year. Surely not?!

The T-Birds will have the Firebirds rattled after they jumped them in Brisbane. C'mon!!!

T-birds need vocal support

Those annoying inflatable clapper sticks aren't enough anymore; it's about time Adelaide Thunderbirds supporters stood up and made more noise.Tomorrow (Saturday) the T-Birds play their most important home game this season and they'll be looking for every advantage, including a parochial crowd, to get them across the line. They tackle the Queensland Firebirds with the winner in the box seat to progress to the finals.
A loss to either side won't be fatal but their destiny will lie in the hands of the other top-four contenders and that's always dangerous. So it's imperative that South Australia throws its full support behind the T-Birds in what should be a gripping contest. The clash is a sell-out meaning just over 3000 people will be willing the girls on.
Adelaide supporters can't be knocked for their ongoing loyalty to a team that teased them with consistent, quality performances but just one championship in the last nine years of the Commonwealth Bank Trophy.
They are a nice bunch of fans but perhaps too nice. Watch a couple of Thunderbirds games live and you'll notice a familiar pattern on the sideline: enthusiastic applause when the girls score and an apathetic clap or two when the other team responds. And sadly there's no buzz at all when the opposition is on a roll and the home side is down on confidence.
The T-Birds were taken aback by the hostile reception they received in their thrilling game against the Mystics at Auckland in round 11. The Firebirds should be made to experience the same uncomfortable feeling at Mile End.
Romelda Aiken is a fantastic player who has combined height, gangly arms and athleticism to dominate the ANZ Championship. But appreciate her talents when she's playing a side other than the T-Birds. Tomorrow, supporters should be cheering every time she misses a shot or jeering her if she benefits from a dodgy umpiring decision. The Jamaican goaler appears unflappable but if the crowd is on her back there's every chance some chinks will appear in her armour.
The same approach should be applied to the rest of the Firebirds players, too. They should be aware the whole stadium is willing them to stumble.
And Adelaide hasn't been happy with some of the umpires during its home games this season. So if the mood strikes, give the umps some lip if they are dishing up some shocking decisions. Subconsciously or consciously, they always seem to even the penalty ledger, especially if the crowd is in a filthy mood.
ETSA Park will never host toothless, beanie-wearing, bourbon-soaked buffoons that spit on the court or say crude things about the players' mums (as is the case in some sports). And even mild sledging might be too much to ask from pure netball supporters and certainly the happy-go-lucky school girls who attend each week.
But a harder edge to some netball spectators wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing; especially when Adelaide's season hangs by a thread. Unfortunately a fierce home crowd won't be able to influence the result if Adelaide struggles like it did on Monday.
The 51-41 loss to the NSW Swifts was the Thunderbirds' worst result this season and saw them slip from second to fifth on the ladder. Their percentage, which once gave them a slight edge over their rivals, is also in decline.
The Swifts were able to restrict Natalie Medhurst and Kate Beveridge while their explosive third quarter proved too much for the visiting side.
It'll be interesting to see how the SA team responds. Adelaide's game against the Queensland Firebirds can be seen on Fox Sports 3 tomorrow from 2pm.

This article is in this week's well known pub / sports club magazine Sports Beat.

I don't know if this guy is serious or taking the p*ss but what an hilarious and well thought out article. It could very well be directed at other sporting crowds in this state but it wold be interesting if the hardcore netball supporters took heed and led everyone in terms of effective team support. The Thunderbirds are a worthy cause after all!

This guy makes some good points. What they need at this game is some good old fashion booing. It is a pity that the game is a sell out as I know some experts in the booing field who would be more than happy to assist, they may even through in the odd "boo hiss!" for good measure. As all the opposition players are introduced there would be nothing like a chorus of boos to greet them to step on the court.

The umpires also need to get a good booing too. I am sick of their incessant whistle blowing followed by "contact keeper, penalty pass or shot" as the opposition shooters get yet another free ride. The crowd needs to ride the umpires and get some hometown decisions go their way for once.

BOOOOOOO! BOOOOOOOOO! (With double cupped hand)

nothing like a 19 goal victory over a finals contender!

GO THUNDERBIRDS!

That is an ass-whooping! Go the T-Birds! They were obviously just resting up last week.

That should pretty much turnarond the % advantage the F-Birds had over them. Way 2 go ladies!

Did u go 2 the game? Who were the standouts?

I saw votes in the paper today from last week's game against the Swifts by 3 netball experts. They all chose totally different players! Marg Angove thought Mo'onia was BOC while the others didn't even have her in their top 3 ... bizarre.

nah mate, didn't get to the game. had footballing commitments, but the 7 who started the game, finished it, and there were no substitutions. Beveridge shot at 93% (37/40) and Medhurst at 94% (29/31). Our 3rd quarter won the game for us when we shot 19 goals to 7.

Fantastic win for us. All we have to do next week is beat the Central Pulse (who got one by 14 today against Northern Mystics) - and we'll be good to go.

Finals spot is now secure. It appears we will now a play a home elimination final next week against the Melbourne Vixens.

I am fired up for the final and will be doing my best to be there. C'mon!

We've got the home final. Brilliant stuff!

Not sure if i can make it yet: might try and get tickets tomorrow morning, but not sure if i'll get a chance.

We're playing the Vixens, won one and lost one against them this season. Should be a good game.

i'm looking forward to it anyway.

The final is on Monday nite at 6:30pm. That absolutely sux, I will be tired and grumpy from work (add stinky) and racing to get there on time.

Why not Sunday?!?!?!

I still really wana go. Tix aren't cheap tho, $32 each. Let me hear no more complaining about the price of AFL finals tix!

You have to ring to get tix by the looks of it, they go on sale 9am 2moro to general public.

Go the T-Birds!

For $32 it should get us access to the changerooms after the match.

Alas, no changeroom access.

Alas, not even a ticket :(

I rang Venuetix this morning from 9am, couldn't get thru til about 9:15. When I finally did get thru the tickets were sold out! Unbelieveable!

They should have played the game Sat nite at AAMI instead of Power vs Kangaroos, probably would have got a bigger crowd and the girls would have gone harder for the ball! :)

Looks like it is sitting in front of the tv Monday nite for me.

Go u good things!!!
