True but not at 5.

HUGE bolter.

He was picked at 7 in the Burgatron so he was obviously thought of as around the mark.

They laughed when we picked up Josh Carr early. He turned out not bad.

They luaghed when we picked THomson early. Hes turning out ok too.

Very very good result: :thumbsu:

Sellar - unbelievable luck
Tippet - has sounded very very encouraging for a while ...rest assured he's been picked as a key forward who can ruck

Mckay - don't know well but luckily I have the TAC GF on tape :thumbsu:

Gill - short term answer to replace Hentschell - good backup strategy if the two above can't step up year 1......Westoff whilst worth an opportunity was 3 years away with his weight.

Campbell - well chose Bryce rather than wait to PS draft so obviously the AFC were convinced

:)

 NICK FRIGGIN GILL OMFG :thumbsd:

Picks 14, 32, and 48 were absolutley golden.

What about Westhoff ?

What is your opinion of your draft results today.

I thought you guys might be in the market for some tall forwards and you only got one KPP (Westoff) and the rest seem to be running types. Thats if you consider Westoff as a KPP.

Thoughts?

Laugh all you like. Sellar is no guarantee to make it as a Key forward either yet.

Lets just see how it all turns out.
agree with you... i rate Boak incredibly highly i was hoping he would go to us... i think its a very good pick personally... good pace... can play inside or out...

Welcome to the AFC:

Take out Sellar and you guys picked up basically exactly what and almost who I thought we would/should pick.

At first thoughts our drafting is certainly out of the blue. Nothing against the players picked personally as Ive only seen a couple play, but its more our priorities seemed to be all over the shop.

I thought we would have picked up a key defender at some point. The fact we got all these smalls was unexpected from my point of view. Though on second thoughts, we did delist 7 midfield/small utility types this year and only 2 KPP. So maybe the priorities were in place.

The choice of Rodan, I seriously cant figure out the reasoning behind that at all.

Westhoff is a KPP. Hes 196cm. Its just the fact he looks like he'll be snapped in half which is the issue.

Travis Boak, is probably a little higher than you would expect, but not much higher.

A probable top 10 pick initially anyway, A very good player. Averaged 25 possesions a game for the Falcons this year

Overall that's a great result for us from the draft. As Stiffy said, it's a nice balance - the right balance for us this year with 3 talls and 2 mid-fielders.

Sellar and Tippet were both anticipated to go higher - time will tell of course as it will with all the other draftees - but at this stage I'm stoked with those 2. :thumbsu: :)

Nick Gill was almost an inevitable pick once Hentschel and Biglands (in short stints) were both unavailable to play up forward in 2007. Gill's an untidy kick but he can fly hard for the ball and take a strong contested mark.

Personally Gill is a bet each way IMO. He's a ready to go if needed player in 2007 and it's up to him whether he has a long-term or a short-term career. But he is there to cover a hole in 2007 if required.

I'm happy with the 2 mid-fielders although I don't know much about McKay from the Oakleigh Chargers. However those that know gave him great wraps and he is quick!! :thumbsu:

Bryce Campbell adds another dimension to the mid-field. An experienced left-footed hard at it type who deserves his chance.

Overall, I think Fantasia and crew have done well given our lowly draft position.

Thats where I am coming from as well. I thought you guys would pick up some talls considering thats the supposed strength of the draft. When you guys kept calling all those names I thought it was a bit surprising. I honestly thought you would either go tall with your first pick or pick up Selwood.

YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't believe we got Sellar! ANd Tippet. Both can ruck and play in KPP. McKay is from Oakleigh I think. Good little running player. Gill and Campbell.. I don't know much about but both are odler types. SO HAPPY ABOUT SELLAR.:D :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Fantasia report -
thought there might be a surprise and there was with Sellar. Worried that Port might take him and then held their breath that he would still be around at 14

injuries did impact choices - load up early with young talent and then security later with Nick Gill

campbell - state footballer, proven and consitent over 2 years
surprised campbell available and a table near them had cries of disapointment that adelaide called out Campbells name

tippett - support for ruck and genuine key forward. Premiership player with southport this year. doing a pharmacy degree, another 'smart ruckman' as Clarky said - Fanta's response was that they are rare to find ;)

mckay - all the honours - genuine midfielder, finesse, balance, slight of build but footy quality. Compliment our young group very well

So to pretty much summarise here

We got 3 key forwards, couple of them can pinch hit in the ruck. All 3 talls are athletic types and strong overhead.

We got 2 midfielders, one inside hard nut and the other is linkman type player with pace and finesse.

Overall, great balance IMHO.

The thing I like is that we went after those players who fit NCs philosophy of playing good when its hard ( apart from Gill)

Premiership players in Tippet and McKay ,Campbell and McKay show promise and Gill is Gill and will be ready next year, and Sellar...if he is half as good as people have been spouting then its going to be all good :thumbsu:

Gill has played during the SANFL finals with a busted shoulder that kept popping out but still gave it his all. He has shown a lot of guts during the last couple of years IMHO.

Whether he is good enough to be a genuinely good AFL player remains to be seen but he does rise to the challenge when presented with it IMHO.

A bit of topic here but is anyone else very impressed with the talls Brisbane have assembled over the last few years?

Luenberger, Wood, Clarke, Roe and add to that the likes od Charman, Brown and Bradshaw and you have some really good ruckman and forwards in that mix.

Well done there :thumbsu:

Also off topic, anyone surprised that Sam Jacobs from WWT didn't get picked up??
