isnt there a thread on the olympic board for bball?
Yep but it doesn’t matter. Every Tom, Dick and Harry will post in that one over the next few weeks and 90% of it will not make any sense as they no idea about basketball.

The yanks have a game (think they play Lithuania) tonight on ESPN tonight – starting at 9:30 pm

phew...boomers escape with an 81-78 win over Angola on a CJ Bruton 3-pointer with 0.2 left on the clock.
I know I'm stating the obvious, but gee Bogut makes a big difference to the team - it's great to have a skilled inside target like him - he played well in the last quarter.

Was watching the coverage on Eurosport and the commentators kept saying CJ wasnt a shooter, and they stuffed up the pick and roll out top with the game tied then CJ bombs the NBA 3 with 0.2 left

Awesome

Other than Australia who do people want to see win? Does anybody want the US to take gold?
that's an interesting and perplexing question simultaneously.

was watching the turkey-usa game last night. at one stage a turkish player (big centre) was fouled by james and he took exception to james hanging on after the whistle went. frivalous really. however, when he stood upto james, who had a "WTF" look on his face, the crowd heckled him a bit, not as much as in the past but you can tell that once the serious stuff starts and there's a minor scuffle or whatever, the public will turn on them.

i think it was late in the 3rd Q when kobe and anthony were on a 2-0 fast break. kobe bounced the ball high and anthony flushed it. one of the commentators said that it's important, while adhering to their game plan etc, to remain humble.

the commentators did talk about the turkish side a bit, but of course most of it was usa based (and expectedly so). i would never expect american commentators to go in depth about their opposition, but these guys were ok.

I thought there were blatant advantages to Team USA last night, from the fouling on follow throughs not getting 2 shots and vice versa.

I loved it when that Turkish bloke stood up to Lebron, and I hope other teams do also. I would love to see Nielsen or Bogut standup to these guys.

Granted I only watched the first half last night but wasnt overly impressed with the USA in the first half, especially the first quarter. Thought it was a grodd effort from Turkey early without Okur and Hedo.

I still get a feeling that the US think they only have to turn up to win the gold. The way they play at times during the game to says this. Thought they would of learned that although they may man for man be the best and most talented team that international basketball is a whole different beast.

If the Aussies dont win gold (extremely extremely unlikely) I hope Spain do nice squad with a few players I like.

Thought I might have a browse for some of the Olympic squads. Found the Spanish one.

Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, Rudy Fernandez, Ricky Rubio, Juan Carlos Navarro, Jose Manuel Calderon, Felipe Reyes, Raul Lopez, Alex Mumbru, Carlos Jimenez, Berni Rodriguez, Jorge Garbajosa

Pretty strong squad there for the Spainards.

Argentina

Pablo Prigioni, Antonio Porta, Manu Ginobili, Carlos Delfino, Paolo Quinteros, Andres Nocioni, Federico Kammerichs, Leonardo Gutierrez, Luis Scola, Fabricio Oberto, Juan Gutierrez and Roman Gonzalez.
