I say lets give Scott Stevens a go!

I was only ****ed off that we lost 2 places in the 2nd round of the draft. I think Stevens is a good get and certainly better than pick 45 would have brought to the table. He can step up and play straight away if needed.

At 194 cm / 85 kg he adds a bit of height and with abit more time in the weight room he would be OK.

I think it was a good get.

This Stevo tickles your fency??????:p

Just finished watching the trades special on Fox Footy.

Their consensus was that we got a good deal for Stevens - they wouldn't have traded him for a pick as low as 45, as they think he has good promise.

They mentioned that he has already had some good games at AFL level with a bag of 4 goals in 1 game and 5 in other.

They interviewed him and he said he had had some discussions with Gary Ayres who said that he would be played both forward and back.

I think we've done pretty well out of this Stiffy.

He said he's up to 88 kg now!! The overweight slob!!! :D

He'll see plenty of the weights room - that's for sure.

The good thing about him is that he's delighted to be coming here - as he said to a good club.

Poor bugger didn't even have a manager until yesterday. He had to engage one to represent him in this trade. :)

He's a country boy from outback WA, where he is at the moment. He reckons that he'll have to go to Sydney once more to empty out his room and bring his bed with him.

I think a lot of our guys wiull get much bigger over th enext couple of years with new weights coach. The club is looking for someone that will give them results so our boys aare as big and as strong as Brisbane's

I think thats very important. I missed his interview on 5AA today.

Please tell me he didnt get Max Stevens as his manager!

Its about time AFC revised their weights training programme, we have been too light on for years. Hentschel, Bock, Stevens, Parker all need to bulk up.

I doubt it. It would have been someone based in Perth or Sydney. Actually Max Stevens looks after his clients well but I agree he is a bloody tool.

Those boys really need to muscle up. McGregor could use a bit more beef as well.

Yeah? y'reckon, he looks after his players? Hows this for a track record:

Rejected a good offer from AFC for Mods and Mods misses out on a flag and gets sent Freo.

Convices Rehn to sue the SANFL, AFC and AFL. Cant see the AFC board welcoming Rehn back anytime soon.

Nick Stevens - puts the boy under some serious pressure and now wherever he goes no one will respect him.

He's tip top old Maxie. Please keep this midget mongrel away from the AFC in future.

Saw the same show & he gives the impression of a down to earth sort of guy & just your typical lad from the country,

He did ok in a couple of games i saw him play in last year & who knows he could turn out to be another Caven or dare i say it another Stevo,

Welcome to the Crows young Stevo hope you/us enjoy your stay.

I really wanted to get a ruckman this trading period so we could say bye bye to Ben Marshmellows.

I just don't understand why we didn't have a crack at Matthew Allen. I know he is not great BUT surely he would have been better than Ben Marsh.

Thoughts??????

I think 99.9% of us would have loved to say bye bye Ben at the end of the trading period - but not to be.

Allen wasn't a viable option Stiffy. Coming up 29 in January and an injury riddled crock, having only played 18 games in the last 3 years.

We'll just have to hope that we dig up someone in the draft or rookie draft that can be developed over the next couple of years.

I think Marsh is going to be around for quite a while yet!! :(

Sorry Kane!! :(

If he is such a star why is he still uncontracted?

Now is the perfect time to delist him. He's out of contract, if we keep him on we've got him for another 2 years. We are not improving our list by keeping him.

Delist him and aim to recruit one or two ruckmen in the coming draft.

I would rather have 2 rookie ruckmen as our back ups than another 2 years of going nowhere with Marsh.

Is we can secure Hall (198cm) from South Fremantle and Dubenecki (200cm) from Glenelg or something similar, I would be happy. It would be a risk worth taking.

We can offer him 1 year contract and boot him out next year. Meanwhile draft a couple of ruckman and start developing them next year

Once again........I like your idea Stiffy. He should be on a year to year basis from now on. Hopefully we can pick up a young ruckman in the draft.

I considered that but a one year contract is'nt much of a commitment from either party.

Cut him loose and go for some fresh talent to back up Biglands and Clarke.

Unless Ben Marsh is deaf & stupid (and in reality he is not) or the AFC are feeding him a lot of crap........he would be very aware that he is on his last legs. I would offer him the one year contract with the option of a second year - but make it very clear - that this is his FINAL chance. HE needs to prove to US (the AFC) why we should offer the second year on the contract. It is now or never for Marsh - he needs to put up or ............theres the door.

A one year deal doesnt do anything for me. Its nowhere land stuff. Especially when he has had plenty of time and chances already. His time is up now.

Is Marsh an AFL ruckman?

No. He is SANFL level at best.

Is Marsh a player that can step up and help us win finals?

No. If he was we would have played him. The dropped mark against Carlton has not been forgotten. As our Captain has stated he wants to win a flag, we need players who are prepared to put their body on the line to do it.

Marsh recently struggled in an SANFL final (Mind you Centras tactics against him were quite good and keep him quiet.) against 2 ruckmen nowhere near AFL standard.

Why then would we want to hold onto a 27 year old ruckman who is not up to AFL standard?

The answer is we are desperate for talls but with the draft coming up we shouldnt be!!

Holding onto him means keeping out a youngster that could be a genuine prospect and a 10 year option if we are lucky.

Our coach has already stated that developing new talent is a priority in 2004.

They should be true to their word and delist Ben Marsh and draft the best 2 ruckmen they can next month.

.

I remember that dropped mark all to well  my first ever live final in Melbourne & that soft fairy like spill of a simple chest mark when he was on his own & with loose men up field turned the game completely Carlton's way,

Trouble is though if there is no replacement ruckman in the upcoming draft to take his place then unfortunately our Ben looks like being with us once again next year.

As for Matt Allen i would rather take a punt on one of the young sanfl ruckman that have been around for a year or 2, must be someone somewhere out there who could improve enough under a full pre-season to at least be put on the rookie list

I'm assuming we did, and couldn't convince him to come to Adelaide. Carlton took pick 60 for him, for christ's sake! That salary cap must be bloody tight.

1 He is over 30 years old

2 He has injury concerns

He doesn't fit into our plans. That is why we didn't go for him.

1. no, he's 29 in February (in fact he's only 18 months older than Marsh)
2. So does Ben Marsh
Then wtf are plans??????
Are we chasing the #1 draft pick next year?
Ben Marsh is a dud. He's improved markedly this year with West Adelaide, presumably because of the influence of Rehn, but he will never improve beyond this level. Worst case scenario is that Allan is no better than Marsh....That's the worst. Anything else and we're a mile in front. For the sake of a 4th round pick and a Doughty or a Gags we haven't sold the farm to get him, so the risk associated with this trade is stuff all. I'm still fuming we weren't more aggressive when it came to Allan. This is one of the bargains of the year imo.

No doubt we will draft a ruckman with the first pick, but you're talking about a 17/18 year old that is realistically 4 years away from being able to make a significant contribution. (For comparison see Hille or Fraser or Gardiner). When Clarke retires at the end of next year would you like Marsh playing every week?

No I don't want Ben Marsh playing for us next year or any year for that matter. I am happy he got delisted.

That doesn't change my view on Matthew Allan though. He is not what we require. I certainly wouldn't play him ahead of Clarke or Biglands. We need a young ruckman who can learn the trade from Biglands & Clarke and be ready for the day that Clarke retires.

Matthew Allan had a good season a few years back and has battled injuries since and has never regained that form. Good luck to him at Essendon........but I am glad we didn't get him.
