Where is Roo known for being a hard nosed business man? Footballer, yes. Businessman are you joking?

Andrew Fagan is no more hard nosed than any other CEO in the AFL. I don't see where he has some great CV of being hard nosed.

I take it you think Colin Carter (which his business resume that would be arguably second to none in the AFL) and Brian Cook (which a great sporting CV) are not tough at all?

Roo is just defiant in everything he does he has an opinion and lets it known and doesnt back down, in terms of business not totally sure how ruthless he is, he is in a business partnership with none other than P Dangerfield himself, rather interesting that.

Okay thank you for clearing that up. Roo has no credentials at being tough in business.

Ideally it would be great to get the compo pick then trade a lower pick or player for someone like Motlop as we both would win somewhat, but as that could be seen to be cheating your number one pick and a player 25 years or less in say the 7-12 ranked in the club. Issues are that player wanting to leave so may need to get a motlop as he appears happy to jump ship. With losing PD we could easily meet his salary expectations.
That would probably be a fair trade before Danger hit RFA status. Now that he's ooc and an RFA, and given the way Geelong is playing and our draw, it's quite reasonable to assume we're going to get pick 5-6 in the draft.

Based on that and looking at the teams likely to finish lower then us, I think we'd be willing to risk him going to the PSD and I think Crows would know this. If they match then they get no compo. The risk is too great trying to get Geelong to play ball. Crows will want to move on as quickly as possible in order to try and secure Aish or Dixon as these 2 players also have lots of suitors, Crows can't be held up for too long if they're to get anyone else.

Same thing with Motlop if he leaves he will have many suitors and he can pick between them, he has to want to go to Adelaide over Pies or Richmond for that deal to work. If Motlop says No to Crows, what deal do you think we could do anyway? There isn't anyone else and then no deal could be done to Crows liking, big risk.

Im sure the players will be happy if Roo and Fagan to be their usual self play hard ball and manage to get a 1st round draft pick and a quality player instead of just a 1st rounder to assist them in being a stronger team.

PD will not want to go in the PSD and I would question you suggesting he would even consider that.
The players probably don't really care. Once PD decides to go, they will just get on with it. They probably want to see it be resolved smoothly. Their job is to play footy, not worry about trades and picks etc. If anything, they will want a positive outcome for PD.

Are the Crows willing to risk losing their best player for nothing- when very good compensation is available (compensation pick)?

They won't match. They won't risk it.

Some people round Adelaide say hes pretty good and fairly tough, saying he knows what he wants and ususally gets it. Being in the hotel industry that is. But no different to how he played the game.
Some people also say Dangerield will go to Geelong as a Free Agent, no trade......

How can he say anything, that would need PD to make a declaration on his intentions first. I have said the new AFC board with Roo and Fagan in charge seem very single minded and determined with a real strong focus, far from what we had with Trigg. Having no doubt they will want the best outcome for the AFC and that would be to get a 1st rounder and a player instead of a priority compo pick, in terms of the "best outcome" for the AFC. That would need Geelong to agree but that may hinge on them receiving PD also. Big "what if's" on all fronts both Adelaides and Geelongs. But well within the rules set down by the AFL. Unless you think the AFL is corrupt like some.

Its not the Crows alone taking that risk to lose him for nothing, as it means he must go in the PSD if he goes for nothing

The question should be, do you honestly think PD will want that risk to end up anywhere who has a low pick.

Well if he has to consider this option, the bridge has been burnt! He will not be staying with the Crows and will walk away. Crows will cop some very serious flack over it.

If it comes to this, his risk will be managed and he will end up where he wants. The way the Cats are going, there may not be many teams picking beforehand in the PSD!

I guess you are saying that the Crows are willing to risk losing both their best player and the compo pick ( and get nothing). Not a good way to run a business.

No one would be stupid enough to pay him 1 million dollars when he doesn't want to be there. Would completely stuff that club up.

Yeah no problems you're not one of those that thinks the AFL is totally corrupt and the purpose of having a draft so the weaker teams get the better players to even up the comp are you?

The first club in the three years since RFA was introduced yaeh I reckon Roo and Fagan would be quite comfortable in that. These two guys play it hard and tough and this will be no different, the way they are acting this whole year has suggested to every club supporter, these guys will not take a backward step.

The ALFPA set the rules so no backlash or they would have set different rules and not agreed to these!
What have ROO and Fagan ever done that you call play tough ??? They are up against Brian Cook who most consider the best CEO and Stephen Wells who most consider to be the best recruiter in the AFL.

Adelaide will lose Dangerfield just like they lost Tippet.

The AFLPA did not set the rules , the AFL did .

Marty can you please stop arguing with every poster on this thread, we cant post boo on the self protected Crows thread, as you are too sensitive.
We had a Port supporter come on before and say this guy is a troll who did the same thing on their board last year with Patty Ryder.

Has some obsession with telling supporters from other clubs they will not pick up a good player for nothing .

GAJ still has business interests on the Coast too and around Geelong. Wasn't enough to keep him here or PD there.
