He may have signed with Adelaide but Geelong certainly don't think that is the case. It's unlikely though.
It's funny that it comes up on BF, then goes to 5AA and then on to Triple M Adelaide then to Triple M Melbourne. Yet none of the mainstream media are running with it. You don't think that the mainstream media would ring Connors and ask for an off the record comment? The media and managers use each other all the time. It's not happening . I also doubt that the AFL wouldn't have leaks if he had signed and it was submitted to the AFL for approval.
If Dangerfield re-signs they will have puff pieces etc before hand about solidarity etc. None of it is happening.
I believe that he is towing the public line that he hasn't decided to stop the credible sources/details going public. However, both Geelong and Adelaide know what is happening and that is that he is gone. Its no coincidence Adelaide have been throwing huge money around i.e. $1m a year to Jeremy Cameron. Adelaide are operating as if he gone and Geelong are operating as if he is coming.
I still don't see how Adelaide fans think he can sign if he hasn't been presented with a contract by Adelaide. He also isn't going to sign a two year deal due to the way he plays. I suspect the two year deal thing is more of a threat i.e. I'll sign a two year deal on huge money with Geelong so it makes it hard for Adelaide to match. I think some wires have just been crossed. Also another possibility is if you were Connors and you wanted to see how far Adelaide would go, would you propose a two year deal on say $1.25m and see if Adelaide think that is okay? If they are happy for $1.25m, you know they have that much cap space free. The rumour at one stage was $1.25m for first two years and then dropping down for years three to five. Like most rumours though, I don't know.
Geelong believe he is committed and everything is going on as if he is leaving.
