Just back on this, it doesn't work like that.
When the AFL look to see if you can afford to match they take this into account and use average wages/potential increase/decrease and list spots into consideration to any possible match of offer.
You can't just not sign 20 players and say "oh but we have 7 million still in our cap, we can match anything!".
AFL, in this case, isn't that stupid.
As long as you could fit draftees as replacements for the unsigned players, yes it does work like that.

I'm really looking forward to getting Danger with "awards" of "1 B&F, a few All Australians and then finishing his career as "AFL Premiership player, Brownlow Medallist, Norm Smith Medallist".
A 4-time Premiership player, Brownlow Medallist, 4-time Norm Smith Medallist as Geelong will win in 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 so no one talks about Hawthorn anymore because we will have won 4-in-a-row!

that talk is a clear ban on your board mate. dont come in here and be a d!ck.

not to mention if you read a few hundred pages we have gone over many times how not matching will actually get you a better deal.
Not matching will get them a better deal? Where? How is pick 14 better than pick 9?

I know, the rule has to go. If the player wishes to return to his home state, what is the point of the club he is with getting into a bidding contest with someone who no longer wants to be there?

And why should a top flight player have less rights to move on after 8 years service than a run of the mill player?
I don't think it's so much about having less rights- it's more that clubs seem to realise that they're wasting a list spot and money on these first and second year players who have them pretty much over a barrel with their demands, so are quick to move them on. And FA and RFA has worked pretty well up until now- ie as soon as the GFC want to take a serious dip.

If the clubs forces the young blokes to stay- and I agree that they SHOULD see out their contract, which nobody forced them to sign- imagine the hullabaloo from the AFLPA regarding player welfare.

I don't agree that these younger players should be able to choose their destination club. Perhaps choose the state- maybe- but the FA and RFA players should be rewarded for their loyalty by being able to choose their destination.

At the moment, it's a bit of a "free for all", particularly at the GWS and Brisbane.

If ever there has been a better purpose for the straight to junk mail setting I've never seen it
They probably have a whole database of email addresses which, when registered as having received an email from said email accounts, directs "all content from this account" to junk mail.

Things just got a bit uglier in the bidding war. Robbo named Dangerfield as No.3 in his end of year Top 50 players.

Danger is Geelong's only player in Robbo's top 50
Sounds like he hates the GFC as well. Surely he could've found ONE GFC player?

I don't know if a lot of people respect his opinion anyway, so... meh...

Wouldn't they need to still have cap space for base grade replacements at the very least? I imagine that you would not be able to use up all currently "free" cap space as part of a match, which could be accepted by the player, thereby leaving the Club unable to add other players to reach the required level.
The AFC are willing to go into 2016 with 30 players, cutting off their nose to spite their face by ensuring the GFC don't get Danger. Lol

Just kidding. Remember Paddy can walk out.

I think Robbo is a funny guy, sometimes he speaks nonsense, sometimes he doesn't.

But think his list was based on Top 50 Players of 2015 & we know that no one consistently had a great year (Blicavs had a good year).

We probably would have quite a few players in the Top 50-100 players of 2015 list as some all did some great things but only in patches.

Yeah, it is hard to believe a team that missed out on finals by a game does not have a single player in the Top 50. Mind you, I'm not sure who it should be - Motlop? Taylor? As Daniel McL said not many of our guys were consistently good.

I'm pretty sure they will act within the rules. Everyone does, dont they?

Sorry I dont buy the, 'hes given your club great service for 8 years' stuff. He was a well paid athlete just as every other player in the comp is. I want my club to do what is best for the club, just as you do yours.
Good organisations care for their people and treat them with fairness and respect. It comes back to bite you on the arse one way or another otherwise.

Motlop and Enright might've been close. The problem with the rest of our players was that some of the players who had played well ended up being injured (Duncan and Bartel).
Hopefully we will soon see names like Thurlow, Lang, Gregson, etc being names in a lot of Top 50 Player lists. :)

Just kidding. Remember Paddy can walk out.

Then let's match, stuff up all plans to land another FA, then sign up 8 or so 100k state league players.

Lol.

We just cannot afford to trade for danger.

We've had 12 months to plan this, we cannot afford to relinquish our bargaining power. We have crows by the balls here and need to push hard.

Here is our ace - danger/Connors are NOT speaking to any other clubs.

He will refuse to do a medical for clubs, will refuse to reside no other place but moggs, will demand to be traded in a years time and no clubs can afford a disgruntled player against their will held at random on their list.

In summary - no other club will take danger in the national draft before our 9.

We need to explain this to Adelaide. We need to drive this point home - that WE WILL NOT TRADE FOR DANGERFIELD.

Adelaide have a decision to either 1. Take 14 or 2. Throw a club legend into the draft for nothing other than self pride and in doing so lose him for zero.

If we trade for him, we are nothing less than weak and push overs at the trade table.
It would be a fantastic result if we got Danger and kept pick 9. I would be over the moon. No way do we trade for Scooter and Henderson is not worthy of pick 9.

Has anyone seen any whispers of players Adelaide are interested in that might complicate them matching? The AFL website has them chasing Curtley Hampton, Paul Seedsman and Michael Talia, none of which would seem to cost too much. Any big fish they're chasing?

Also, early on (400-odd pages ago), I was reading how good a strategy it would be for Geelong to wait until the end of the FA period to lodge an offer (to put some uncertainty into Adelaide's other dealings), but if Adelaide are planning on matching, surely Geelong lodging day one then dragging out trade negotiations until the end of the trade period would make it much harder for them, given that Danger's salary would be on their books for the period of the matched offer...

Given our history, I can't see Geelong acting like this, but an early lodgement seems like a winner all round for mine.

When the coach is saying things are amicable and a deal will be done, I don't think we'll be playing funny buggars

If we end up with Danger, Hendo, Scooter, Smith and Pick 9 (Mathieson) I will be doing backflips!
I think we'll be handing over pick #9 to Adelaide, even if they don't match. If we still get the above mentioned but end up with pick #14 and an upgrade of our third round for Adelaide's second, I'll still be joining you in doing backflips! Crows' supporters will no doubt join in on the backflips, too. For different reasons, obviously.:D
