Sad to see him leave Vic Park as he has been a great assistant but fantastic to see him getting his oppurtunity at senior level.

All the best and good luck Dean.
And thanks for your 3 years at Collingwood.

Very happy with Laidley. He's played under Pagan and Malthouse - is there any other coaching combination that could provide such a good grounding for the role?

I suspect that Collingwood's rebuiding over the past three years could have snuck Laidley across the line from Eade. He's been involved in the rebuilding of a team from almost scratch - North will be undergoing the same process.

Isn't Eade, Britain and Wallace in the sh*t.

Genuinely feel for Brittain. Poor bastard. He will find it very hard to get another job.

Eade was unlucky, and was not helped by Sydney people post retirement.

I laugh at Terry Wallace.

Mate,
you just summed it up PERFECTLY.

well done. ;)

Although, one of them may get another chance soon as I feel the Richmond position may become open if you know what I mean. Sad turnaround for the Tigers after the promise of 2001.

I hope at Carlton that we promote Ross Lyon from the VFL coach to an assistant AFL coach. Then give Britts the VFL coaching position. He is a good coach, and probably better than Laidley (not that I would know never seeing Laidley coach, I am just guessing because Britts has experience)

Tim Watson has coaching experience.

That and the fact that Laidley would come at half the price of Eade.

Time for Gavin Crosisca to return home.

Don't forget John Todd!

Congratulations to Laidley, great to see him get a gig as a senior coach. Really rated him as a player.

Shinboners original quote referred to the fact that Laidley played under both Malthouse and Pagan. He also worked as an assistant coach for both, 1 year with Pagan and 3 with Malthouse. Mark Thompson never played under Pagan however his coaching credentials were impressive after working as an assistant to both Sheedy and Pagan.

Tony Shaw - Hafey, Cahill, Erwin, Rose, Mathews.
Can't win 'em all.

Good luck to Laidley. Thanks for efforts at the Pies Dean. I hope we go after Crosica now.

I wouldn't mind Brittain as an assistant, either him or even John Longmire as a possible replacement for Crosisca. However i am not sure if he minds as it will be a step down for him. Then again i am sure he will be grateful for the opportunity.

I have heard good things about Brittain, but would it make Laidley feel comfortable having an unsuccessful candidate for the job as his assistant?

Don't believe so. May be better getting an experienced older hand as a football manager (a Neil Balme type would be good).

dont think so.

Bomber Thompson spent half of his time at Essendon arguing with Sheedy.

Malthouse/Pagan is a much better grounding IMO although I have my doubts about Denis' value in this regard. Laidley was apparently given a lot of training, tactical and match day responsibilities under Malthouse. At North he would have moved the odd cone, and brought the pies for the half time break.
