I am suggesting he is worth a 4 year contract....yes....how else do you think we will get him in the PSD?
Fletcher doesnt rack up those stats and i'm sure the ball spends a similar amount of time in our backline also.
I base my argument on his ability to keep opponants quiet not his stats, although they are quite good.

Not sure how being fourth in rebound 50's is bad thing as Thornton would be responsible for a lot of those along with Sh*tnall?

IMO they only back up his worth.
If Carlton are the fourth ranked teams in rebounding out of their backline then he is one of the players responsible for that.
The Sydney stat is irrelevant, as it relates to players all over the ground.

Ill admit to not really paying that much attention to him, however, if you're providing stats to back up your argument of his value, I pointed out some stats that were ironic in that despite the numbers he racks up (which you provided), they still were whipped quite often. Stats...sure, he has them on the board...effectiveness on nullifying the opposition attack...minimal. The ball probably spent the majority of their game time in their back half and he was bound to get his hands on it more often than not. Incidently, he only took 11 contested marks for the season..
I rate Polak more highly.....11 games, 64 marks, 14 contested marks..
Thornton 22 games, 144 marks, 11 contested..

To really make the comparison, you need to look up his opponants stats and get the real picture.

As for the marks, it's really irrelevant for a defender, as if they are playing close and spoiling effectively, they wouldn't have many contested marks.
Don't forget Polak has played at CHF, which may account for the contested marks.

I have hardly seen Polak so i can't comment on the comparison and i realise a lot on here think i am over rating Thornton, but i think he is one of the best young defenders on the game.

But yeah the differing views are fine and i welcome them anytime.

anyway i think JJ and solly are gone, i dont see the club re-signing both of these players unless a suitable trade cannot be found. And (IMO) i think other clubs will play hardball with JJ, I say JJ becuse sollys value has diminished considerably enought to warrant very little in return.

We did this last time with sollys contract and when we finally offered a acceptable deal soll said it came too late, it wasn't until an 11th hour talk by sheeds and rama that he re-signed with us. Having said that Polak's form wouldn't be much better and mabe some trade can be sorted out there as freo are interested in him.

As for JJ well u need your extractors to get the ball out to the players who can do the most damage with it, ala scotty west for the bullies, i dont understand why we wont offer a 2 year contract other then essendon being desperate for pace and seeing it as an oppurtunity for an injection of youthful talent. Apparently the saints are interested with rumours of Port and Freo also interested. I can't see why the saints would go after him really, they there extractors harvey, ball, hayes, mcqualter and i would have thought there problems are similar to ours and they needed more pace. What on earth would they offer us, couldnt see them giving a first round pick and there top players are o good for jj whilst there middle tiers are very poor.

Adrian Dodoro was just interviewed about 20 minutes ago by Kevin Bartlett on SEN.

He has obviously become media savvy as he managed to go the whole interview without really giving anything away.

KB asked if we had made a decision on who we will pick with Pick 2 and Dodoro said No. He said we had narrowed it down to 2 or 3. When asked if we would use to pick 2 on the best available player or on a player who will best fit the club he answered best available player. He also stated that we would take a long term view not only with pick 2 but with the rest of our picks as well.

Also said they had interviewed about 30 kids at the camp and along with kids they had interviewed before and after it they would have had over 40 interviews.

When asked about Solly and JJ he had the standard "they are required Essendon Players etc etc"...

Also the interview was interupted with a news flash that Thornton had told Carlton that he wanted to be traded to Hawthorn, KB told Dodoro that he should tell Sheeds and Dodoro replied that Sheeds already knew about it this morning and that Sheeds was on top of what was going on all over the traps.
