Yes i am having a good day, as i awoke to the news of Thornton putting step 1 into action, by saying he wants out of Carlton.


As i have been saying all along, we will need to offer him something special to get him to nominate for the PSD, and as Hawthorn have "supposedly" offered him 3 years @ $300K py we need to either top the $ significantly, or give him 4 years or possibly both.

If we can get him in the PSD, it will be the best move we have made for a long time and could pay off for the next 10 years.


Longy.....seems you may know something we dont here, i understand you prolly can not come out and spill the beans, but if you can maybe give us the "jist" of what you know, you would really make my day.....

yeah exactly and we will have no hope if hawthorn offers a high first round draft pick for thornton, if sydney offers pick 15 for everitt hawthorn may offer carlton pick 6, i think the hawks would be satisfied with that.

I meant offer Thornton what Hawthorn have offered him, not Carlton.

We have pick 2 in the PSD, Carlton have pick 1 and you'd doubt that re-draft him.

Offer Thornton what Hawthorn have offered him and give him the opportunity to choose between Essendon and Hawthorn.

If he wants in, we take him in the PSD. We don't have to offer Carlton anything.

Fair enough, Ill admit to punching below the belt with that response, but what Im getting at is you cant be certain either way of his intentions. He's barely 18, of course his mother is going to be concerned and be torn up with the thought of his little boy moving away. Sheedy will be the first to reiterate that mothers make up a big part of the fabric of a successful footballer. His childhood is a clear example. Crawford paid tribute to his mother when he won the Brownlow. So, from where Im standing...you have no clue on how close he is with his family, in particular his mother.
In relation to arguing about Jolley, I stand by asking you if you were for real? If you took offence to that or it bent your nose out of shape...Im not going to apologise for opposing you in that regards.

Could this trade be tampered with much in the same light of the 'Veale deal' whereas he agrees to come to Essendon, but he's picked up by Carlton once again in an attmept to get something worthwhile for him? It seems to smell a little like that...

I guess, being the second cab off the rank in the draft...would be highly unlikely, but a possibility??

Carlton can re-draft him, but they'd have to sign him for what he puts on his head. If that's 3 years at 300,000 then why wouldn't they just sign him for that now and get it over and done with?

He's rejected that offer citing 'a fresh start' Im just contemplating if Carlton attempted to play hardball, knowing exactly who are his main suitors

Well there is no reason they couldn't.

But I'd imagine they'd be trying to target a player in the PSD themselves. Hypothetically speaking, say it was Polak, they'd be drafting him rather than playing hardball with Thornton.

Let's forget about trading for anything other than draft picks. Like everyone else i love the banter that happens this time of the year, but realistically little ever happens. Let's just target someone for the psd, eg Thornton is perfect. If solly and jj go then we get the best picks we can for them, not players. We're a few years away so lets stock up some more young talent to go with Ryder Dempsey Stants Jobe and Johns
