Gumbleton for me. But Hansen's and Selwood's names seem to be coming up regularly. Interestingly Leuenberger hasnt been aligned to us recently. I did notice though that Michael Prior has had a bit to do with him which is very interesting.

Leuenburger,202cm, recorded one of the quickest times for a player his size at the DC. He played six senior games for East perth as a roving around the ground ruckman. He is a string bean of a kid and hasn't really played alot of senior games, but they (EP people) rate him very highly and say he's ready for League footy.

I prefer Gumby:)

LETS :thumbsu: GET :thumbsu: GUMBY

I wouldn't place too much emphasis on the form these kids displayed in senior WAFL footy.

It didn't really help Kepler adjust to AFL, it doesn't hurt, but I don't think it places them that far ahead of the others.

The games i saw Gumbleton in though,he looked pretty comfortable at league level. I couldn't handle another string bean tall (kepler) who take ages to develope. All Gumbleton needs is 4-5-6 kgs on him and he's set to go.

Let's not place to much pressure on our first pick. They aren't there to win us a flag straight away.

So we pick another forward when we already have a number of options ? It is not like Hanson is a weed , he is listed as the same height and weight as Gumbleton and having seen him play a bit he goes alright. I say we pick a player that can naturally play a position that we need covered.
As far as forwards go we have
Lloyd and Lucas who still have 3 or 4 years left.
Johns who can play.
Lee played a lot of footy as a forward in the under 18's and is a good lead and kick at goal.
Ryder has looked ok when he has player as a leading forward.
Laycock is another forward option.
Hille goes ok as a forward when he is there as well.
Bradley kicked 4 goals when he was used as a forward .

Agreed.

However - I just want us to pick the BEST available player at 2. Whatever position. Kids who should become stars - you just have to take them. If you have an embarrassment of riches - all the better.

But we MUST draft a KP backman in this draft - whatever number. Then Bolts and Henno will be gone within 2-3 years:(

Gumby or Hansen would be good in the end depends who the club think is the best player. If they rate Hansen highly it is good because we need a CHB but defenders can be picked up later to, could go for a Nathan Brown type with pick 18 and then get Gumby with pick 2. Only problem with that is that we're not bring in the midfeilders which I would have liked to happen with both pick 18 & 20. But I guess if we get Gumby and N.Brown then a midfeilder with the next pick I won't complain.

Then again going Hansen at 2 and then picking up two quality midfielders at 18 & 20 would be great aswell. Overall just go with best available, staying away from medium defenders and ruckmen. Lucas can play CHB next year I guess but isnt really man on man type.

Let's imagine for a second that we were still under the priority pick system*, we'd have both.

I'd imagine Carlton would have gone Gibbs, we'd go Hansen/Gumbleton, then Carlton would get Leuenburger and we'd get the other of Hansen/Gumbleton.

With Jobe Watson, Courtney Johns and Andrew Lee, there is your spine for the next 10 years.

*Disclaimer to opposition trolls - I am glad the AFL changed the former priority pick system.

I'm not... or maybe they should have changed it for next year ;)

do we have any uncontracted players training with us? no clokes is a good sign...

Well, theres question marks on any kid we draft, I mean, it'd be foolish to pencil Lee and Johns in right now as long term whilst theyre still cutting their teeth.

Regarding the text in bold, if there was a way on betting on that scenario..you'd be right on the money as Im pretty confident Carlton will go ruckman for their next pick after snaring Gibbs.

That's what you do as soon as (or ever before) you draft a kid, pencil him in for the future.

Yep, makes sense to me.

What Im getting at is the fact both came with little to no reputation at all. I think its easier to look long term when hype surrounds a future prospect, as opposed to drafting a virtual unknown.
Not denegrating anything about them... at this stage, Im hoping they can at least slot somewhere into our starting 22 before factoring in the future.
Im a little surprised theres been no news on any delisted players training with us, wouldve thought with Sheedy being the type to play trump cards, he'd look outside the square at somebody...

Can anyone shed some light on anyone training with us??

I've mentioned this in another thread, the only two we have training with us at the moment are Pendlebury and Maddern from Bendigo.

Pendlebury is the older brother of the young bloke at Collingwood. Really good athlete, quick and a good leap. Basketball background, but similar to Austin Lucy in a lot of ways.

Maddern is a skinny forward. Good leap, good skills, really good mark. But fragile, can't see him putting on enough weight (he's 22) to make the grade. Definately has the ability though.

If Sheeds could teach Roden to read the play properly,he could be an asset.
Our list is starting to look awfully choc-o-block.Don't know if we could take a punt on David.
