Very, very happy with how things went.

Sh!t yeh! We've just sorted our KPP stocks for the next decade with Watson, McCarthy (bonus at #34) and Mitchell. All are 195cm+ and at least a couple of them are likely to be gooduns.

Pressure's definitely on blokes like Casboult and (even) Hendo. No way i can see us retaining Irish now beyond next year either without him producing a sensational 2011. This is all exactly what we need to get to where we want to be. :D:thumbsu:

I'm just going on hearsay, but WC appear to have done very well to get Gaff, Darling and Lycett.

Agreed, was looking at their list and they have done very well.

Cox will retire right around the time Lycett will come on and with NicNat moving to GWS(:p) they certainly need it.

and the winner is......Carlton!!!

Fantastic pick ups by the club, 2 ready made backman by all accounts and a Jonno Brown type forward....to all those asking where out KPP are...think we might have found a couple tonight!!!

Exciting stuff!!

Honestly though, some inside midfield depth could of been good. I guess they are pretty sure about Mclean getting fit, and possibly Thornton leaving
Looks like we've done an Adelaide and stockpiled on quality talls. A bit surprised we didn't pick an inside midfielder at pick 3 or 4.

I guess we'll have Gibbs, Lucas, and even Garlett playing more in the midfield as well as Cachia and Buckley coming on in the future.

This. :(

Though THS suggested that Watson can be our Leigh Brown...

Why Duigan?

27 next year.

Interesting is the Duigan selection hey, anyone know more about him.

It would seem as if we may have committed to him considering our picks before hand.

I suppose a lot of us were asking the same thing about Simon White last year.

So which ruckman do we rookie?
Duigan turns 27 next year.

White is just 21 or 22.

Why pick him by effectively passing on Anthony?

Strange.

Though you shouldn't expect another James Hird or Chris Grant at 70.

Amazing draft, so happy with the selections.

This KPD depth means Thornton's career is effectively over.

Interested if anyone has any meaningful info on McInnes? Sounds like a good user of the footy by all reports...

Wonder if McCarthy might be looked at as a forward prospect too...

McCarthy at #34 and Mitchell at #42 is outrageously awesome.

Very happy overall with our picks.

Well done to Wayne Hughes :thumbsu:

Pick 18 - Matthew Watson

watson.jpg

Former club: Calder Cannons/Pascoe Vale
DOB: 16/07/1992
Height: 195cm
Weight: 102kg
Position: Defender

Left-footed tall defender with impressive marking ability and a tremendous ability to win the ball. Amazing endurance keeps him going for the entire match. Played well in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, earning All-Australian honours and averaging 19 disposals and five marks per game.

Pick 34 - Patrick McCarthy

mccarthy.jpg

Former club: Glenelg/Plympton
DOB: 11/03/1992
Height: 196cm
Weight: 84kg
Position: Defender

Aggressive tall defender who can go forward in a pinch. Above-average speed for a man of his size coupled with an ability to take a strong grab led him to All-Australian under-18 honours this year. Averaged 17 disposals at 70 per cent efficiency during the 2010 NAB AFL U18 Championships. He is a neat disposer of the ball and provides good rebound from defence.

Pick 42 - Luke Mitchell

Former club: Calder Cannons/St Bernards
DOB: 28/02/1992
Height: 198cm
Weight: 94kg
Position: Forward

Very tall forward who can earn possessions. He is dangerous around goals and presents well on the lead. Missed the 2010 NAB AFL U18 Championships due to shoulder surgery.

Pick 67 - Andrew McInnes

mcinnes.jpg

Former club: Dandenong Stingrays/Devon Meadows
DOB:[/B] 20/03/1992
Height: 191cm
Weight: 86kg
Position: Defender

Quick and strong medium-sized defender who can play on smalls or talls. Was a Vic Country U18 representative in 2010 where he averaged 11 disposals at 91 per cent efficiency in his three matches. Shows great discipline in the backline.

Sorry guys I couldn't find any info on Duigan.

Over the moon with #18, #34 and #42. To be honest I know nothing of McInnes or Duigan, but I was hoping for an inside mid with one of those two picks.

Still, can't complain. I've been on the Watson bandwagon for a long, long time.

Surprised to see that Tyler Chalwell didn't get picked up. Here's hoping we can rookie him and an inside mid.

Good work boys!

Not just T-Bird. One or two others will be looking over their shoulders.

It will be interesting to see how we handle the disaffected senior players who already seem to have their papers stamped.

It seems logical to assume that a few of our running backs look set to play more in the midfield.

We seem to have done a Collingwood circa 2006.

Pretty good drafting here. Loaded up on talls. I don't think we rated the talls in last years draft so we wen't small and we did rate the smalls.

I think if you go all out on one sort of player, the odds are more in your favor of finding good ones.

There is some serious competition for places. If we had this depth in talls this season then Jamison would have got dropped when he was playing poor. Bower wouldn't have been rushed back. Thornton and O'hAilpin would probably not have ever played a game. I recon all these guys are under a little pressure over the next few years. If the guys we have drafted turn out good then even guys like Jamison are under pressure.

Casboult, Austin better lift. Thornton and Setanta will be gone next year.

Welcome to the club fellas! Can't wait until we read out the name Buckley next year...

2012 = serious depth.

Just found this info on Duigan on the NorwoodFC website .........

Pick 70 - Nicholas Duigan

player29.jpg

Recruited From: Pembroke College/Norwood
DOB: 7th September 1984
Nickname: Duigs
Height: 186cm
Weight: 85kg
Position: Key Position Defender

First NFC game: 2005 v Centrals

Games (end 2009): 63

Goals (end 2009): 7

Bio: At times dogged with injury in his years at Norwood, Nick is one of the first players selected in Norwood's league side where he provides rebound from defence, is a strong reliable overhead mark, demonstrates good decision making skills and is always offering his voice for encouragement and instruction.

Thornton is looking good to spend this season in red I am thinking... definitely gone next year.

Also with the HBF'ers we got this draft, it is a definite that 1AW is going to be playing on the wing/CHF line for us next year.

Damn I love this draft...

I'm happy with the draft. To get both Watson and McCarthy is obviously fantastic, Mitchell is a nice pick too. If I was to be critical, I would've liked a midfielder with #67 or #70, but overall it was a good effort by Hughes and co.

I definitely agree here. Armfield, Russell, Gibbs, Davies may all get a chance to move into the middle
