Maybe we might end up with 2 Lonergans next season? Jessie via the ND and his uncle Sam via the PSD?! Both suit our needs.

A few of the pros on the D&T board said that they would not be surprised to see Vlastuin slide to us. I would be rapt to get him!

Anyway, video on Vlastuin here.

Interesting that some people see him as a HB. I would dump him straight in the centre circle. He's not a super athlete, but he's just one of those old fashioned bash-n-crash mids to get it out. We need more of those.

Looks like he likes a surf too :thumbsu:

just read this interesting piece on lions list management
what they did through free agency period, trade period and everything in between.
was interesting to read who they were in to.
would be nice if the suns did something like that. would be good to see who they were interested in
who was a close get and who we got.

A very interesting view into the inner workings and thoughts of how an AFL club works.

Obviously this would be similar to all AFL clubs. It shows how many balls a club has to juggle at once, and how easily the best plans can fail.

Injuries would be the number 1 problem that clubs would have to deal with due to their random nature.

Lucky Clayton steers the ship at GCS.

Just read on the D&T board that Hrovat's manager believes we won't pass on him if he's still there at #13.

Certainly not a bad option. Small inside mid that is a clearance machine. Very much a Prestia type. Be good to have those two small nuggety inside mids to dance around the ruckman! :D

What's to fix?
Never mind

I'm warming to this kid. Initially I was against getting another midget as we have Meatball and Fish already but if he is a "star" around the stoppages like they say and models his game on Sam Mitchell he could be just what we need. A classy inside player at pick #13 might prove a real bargain. We'll still have the bigger bodied mids like K and Spitter (not to mention Bull and Horsley can also run through the middle if needed), and the class of Ablett and Harley plus eventually Jaeger and Jack Martin. I also think Alex Sexton will fill out into a very nice size in a few years.

I noticed a while back EmmaQ stated she thinks we will only draft 2 new rookies to join Josh Hall (instead of our maximum list allowance of 4 I think).

Although very unlikely, still hoping Sam Lonergan somehow slides through the ND as a bloody decent inside mid back-up plan. Instant replacement should we lose one of our key midfielders to a LTI.

Also wouldn't mind Matty Bate as an experienced full fwd back-up plan should we suffer some long-term injury in this area.

Both guys still have 4+ years to offer in the AFL, and well worth a 2nd chance for 12-months on the rookie list.

Justin Sherman is another interesting proposition. Still only 25 with 138 games experience. He and the Doggies were happy to part ways still with a year left on his contract. Maybe he is hoping to be picked up by GWS for some bigger $$$ or has another club sniffing around?

Huh? Besides being a huge down-hill skier with no ticker, he racially abused one of our players. That's a big NO from me. Why would we pick-up up Sherman when we let a better player go in Iles?

He looks good but watching the video on him he rarely looks where he is kicking and I saw 1 handball in the video just 1, many times he had open support players but blazed away.

On the upside he sure knows how to get the ball.

Interesting to read in an article on Petterd training with the Tigers, that we offered him a lucrative deal to join us.

"Petterd doesn't regret rejecting an attractive contract from Gold Coast two years, along with offers from other clubs."

Makes you wonder who else we approached before signing guys like Krakouer, Brown & Brennan.

I will go out on a limb and say that if available when GCS have their pick that Jesse Lonergan could end up a Sun in 2013.

Possibly under rated due to some injuries early in 2012 and less exposure due to being a Tassie player as opposed to the Victorian players.

He is also the size that would allow him to play seniors in 2013. He is a strong through the legs and core (like ablett) and would be definitely a tough in and under player that would assist the group. He would allow a player like McKenzie to run and deliver with a 60-70 metre forward entry.

Although Tassie Football is now unfortunately 3rd tier, he has played at senior level and acquitted himself exceptionally well and when fit was in the better players at the U/18 championships.

Clayton would love the fact that he is a Tasmanian (no go home factor) and that he will not be overwhelmed in his new environment. Do not under estimate the plus of having played senior football (and a premiership-in the best players) and being able to give out as well as take it.

Hopefully available when GCS have their pick!

Lonergan has always been a chance to get to us, IMO. He's exactly what we need and from Tas. Depending on who else is available, he could definitely be a Sun in 2013.

From what I understand, #13 was going to be a stretch. But it seems Knightmare has brought him right up to pick #11.

From what ive seen of Lonergan he reminds me so much of Danny Stanley, personally id be happy to draft another Stanley at 13:thumbsu:

I can agree partly. However, if they do have other attributes, it holds them in good stead. Lonergan for instance also has the explosive burst that Swan has, which is another reason I find them similar.

Always gotta be wary of how the big bodied mids at junior level will transition to AFL, but I wouldn't steer clear of them because of it.
