Update: 26-Oct-2006
Latest Line-up Announcement
Latest additions for both Marion Bay and Lorne are: Outrageous Brazilian fun makers CANSEI DE SER SEXY (Brazil); Dashing DAN KELLY AND THE ALPHA MALES; the explosive blues-rock of THE VASCO ERA; new sensation WOLF & CUB; pro surfer of ocean and radio waves alike TIM CURRAN (USA); boundary bending electric string quartet FOURPLAY; alternate roots powerhouse DALLAS FRASCA; larger than life drum and guitar duo THE FUMES; one of hip-hops finest teams MUPH N PLUTONIC, the raucous rock of GROUND COMPONENTS and 9-piece Latin hip-hop troupe LABJACD.

Absolutely pumped about The Vasco Era... Went on a few myspaces and listened to most of the bands. I really like alot of em, some really good filler in there i think. Bit disappointed that no more bigish names came out but hopefully we will see at least one in the next round.

Fizzer.

Hardly a fizzer. All the commercialism is gone and now you can be plesently suprised by some groups.

Cansei De Ser Sexy for exmple will be pretty awesome to watch I would think.

Wolf and Cub are bloody good and I've heard good things about Ground components.

Im not disappointed, I have all I need to justify my ticket from the first two announcements.

I think it is fair to say it is a fizzer in terms of the size of the acts. You say it takes away the commercialism, but when your paying $150+ for a ticket i think that you expect some more commercially large bands playing. They justified the increase this year to improving facilities and bringing in more big bands. The first part of that will remain to be seen, but the latter (at the moment) doesnt seem to have been rectified.

Tassie has 41 bands, Lorne has 34 or something. Cant expect too many more musical acts to come out. I wouldnt think any will be of considerable size either. I am still clinging to hope of Dallas Crane and Augie March though.

Compare this to the 3rd round last year
Ugly Duckling, The Cat Empire, Rolling Blackouts, Eric Bibb, Little Birdy, Ash Grunwald, Rob Sawyer, Kelly Stoltz, Katalyst, True Live!, Mia Dyson, Youth Group, Dan Sultan, Scott Wilson, ruCL, The Offcuts...

Thats certainly a bigger 3rd announcement than this year.

2005 had Dandy Warhols, The Shins, Wolfmother, Pete Murray, The Beautiful Girls, Faker, TZU, The Grates, Hoodoo Guru's, The Zutons, End of Fashion, Evermore, Dallas Crane, Lior, The Cat Empire, Ugly Duckling, Little Birdy and Youth Group.

2006 has Modest Mouse, Michael Franti + Spearhead, Wolfmother, The Bees, John Butler Trio, Saul Williams, You Am I, Youth Group, Hilltop Hoods, Eskimo Joe, Scribe, The Sleepy Jackson, Little Bird, The Mountain Goats.

I think if you put them up against each other it isnt too bad. I commend them on there ability to change the line up so much. If the Basement Jaxx plan had worked out then it certainly would be a better line up.

hmm I saw five of those last year from the third announcement. Eric Bibb was awesome. But anyway....

Im happy with it. There were more in last years 3rd announcement....

CSS and wolf and Cub are a great and Im happy to pay $130 since Marion Bay ran at a loss last year, There are already enough commercial bands and it's a bargain anyway. Im also looking forward to checking out The Fumes and Ground Components.

This years line-up is much better than last year.

Damn they must have alot of expenses to run at a loss, with the price of tickets and the amount of people going.

So what do we know as to whos playing where on what night?

According to there websites:

Wolfmother: 30th Marion Bay, 31st Lorne

Modest Mouse: 30th Lorne, 31st Marion Bay

Eskimo Joe: 30th Lorne, 31st Marion Bay

Any others?

Michael Franti is doing new years at Marion Bay, thats what my mate was told when he went to volunteer anyway. And it says on his site he's doing the 31st at Marion bay.

John Butler: 30th Marion Bay, 31st Lorne.

Hilltop Hoods: 30th Lorne, 31st Marion Bay.

Saul Williams: 30th Lorne, 31st marion Bay

Sleepy jackson: 30th Lorne, 31st Marion Bay

M. Ward: 29th Lorne, 31st Marion Bay

Cansei's says 31st Marion Bay but doesnt mention Lorne.

Wolf and Cub: 30th Marion Bay, 31st Lorne.

Youth Group: 30th marion Bay, 31st Lorne.

Matt Costa: 30th Marion Bay, 31st Lorne.

Wow marion bay gets alot of the bigger bands on new years eve. Luckily Wolfmother and JBT are pretty much the two biggest reasons i am going so i am stoked that they will be playing NYE in Lorne. I wouldnt be surprised if Scribe plays the set after the NYE band as he did at Pyramid Last year i believe.

I wondered why CSS didnt have Lorne on there myspace. I assume its just an error as falls site has them included in the lorne line up.

Blue King Brown: Dec 30 2006 12:00P Lorne, VIC, Dec 31 2006 1:00P Marion Bay, TAS

Custom Kings, 30th Lorne, 31st Marion Bay

Josh Pyke: 30th Lorne, 31st Marion Bay

Tim Curran: 30th Lorne, 31st Marion Bay

Labjacd: 30th Marion Bay, 31st Lorne

Dallas Frasca: 30th Marion Bay, 31st Lorne.

Exploders: 30th Lorne, 31st Marion Bay

Jen Cloher: 30th Marion Bay, 31st Lorne

Dan Sultan: 30th marion Bay, 31st Lorne

Assuming we can trust MySpace.

Good work pheonix rise.

Looks to be a pretty even spread with Wolfmother, JBT on NYE in Lorne and Modest Mouse, Franti, Hilltop Hoods and Eskimo Joe in Marion Bay.

If you get stuck in the line for hours, then Im sure they get bored with it and just have a token look but not really try. But my plan is to be there extra early, so I may have to try extra hard. I have some ideas, but I cant really share them for fear of spies

:D

Nope but all it'll feature is the comedians attending and maybe 2 or 3 new bands to make it to the 50 acts.

Late release ticket info is up for anyone who needs one at www.fallsfestival.com . Doing the name on ticket exercise for this allocation.

I'm more interested in what the timetable will be now rather than the next announcement.

Me and a mate yesterday purcahsed a little mini gazebo for our site. Starting to put all the plans together now.

For Tassie folk,

How is the phone reception down Marion Bay?

Telstra put a temporary tower up which is very good until about 9pm on new years eve. At that stage it will be overloaded until about 2 in the morning. SMS's you send will take about 45 minutes to get recieved in that time I found last year. All other times its just like being anywhere else, no delays what-so-ever.

Ahhh it'd want to be mini! Our tent and car basically took up the entire space last year. Although it was a 7 man tent.
