It was part of a bigger trade though so makes me wonder what else Geelong may have got.
Would only consider Lynch in all honesty

Why on earth would you give up Duncan after his breakout season espically if you’re bringing in Gaz...that midfield would be the best we have had since 2011.

Wouldn’t even contemplate the trade

Wouldn't have been Ablett for Duncan straight swap, I reckon the suns may have offered up pick 2, so Ablett & pick 2 for Duncan and maybe pick 34.

Still a no for me, however I will ask, Gold Coast also have picks 19,22 and 24, if say they were willing to part with picks 2,19 and Ablett for Duncan and pick 34, would anyone be happy with that?

Wouldn't want to lose Duncan at any cost, next captain of the club. Also whats the point of having Gaz come in to play forward if we have nobody decent to deliver it to him, Duncan is the best kick at the club.

God it’s tempting.

I would do the deal.

Future captain and just had a breakout year

Wouldn’t be a straight swap offer surely, even if packaged with high draft picks it’s a no for me. And I doubt they would throw in Lynch + picks.

Makes me wish I witness the reaction when they asked, had to be a packaged offer they aren’t that dumb...or could they be?

I tend to agree, although pick 2&19 would be tempting, losing Duncan would be a huge blow to the club short term.
You would never trade Duncan except for Lynch and even then you wouldn't. Wont happen.

GCS meet Lang thats what you can have.

If we weren't in a flag window I'd be all for it, only problem for me is how bad would Wells use a #2 pick.
Wells' record with picks 10 and under is Joel Corey, Jimmy Bartel, Harry Taylor, Andrew Mackie, Kane Tenace and Nakia Cockatoo. That's a pretty excellent strike rate IMO.

I can excuse Tenace because 2003 was a shocking draft year - there wasn't really a good choice around.

Duncan is not being traded he doesnt want to go and we dont want him to go. Have you people ever heard of 'ambit claim.' Give it a rest and start discussing realistic trades.
The real question being: when your ambit claim is so ridiculous it puts the other side off from negotiating in the first place.

Wow just had a look at the 2003 draft, outside of Adam Cooney, no players there you would consider to be any good really. Maybe a bit harsh on Walker, but it was barren.

Harry was pick 17, I just don't rate Wells recent form with first round picks, Mitch Brown, Smedts, Lang, Thurlow, to name a few. He trades them well I must admit, Danger, 2E, Hendo.

Whoops, he (Harry) was too.

Still, there's a big different between a top-five, a five-to-ten and a fifteen-to-twenty pick. Fifteen to twenty is a very different space to five to ten.

For cross-referencing purposes:
The player taken after Darcy Lang was Michael Apeness.
The player taken after Thurlow was Josh Simpson.
The player taken after Smedts was Ben Jacobs.
The player taken after Brown was Schoenmakers.

What I mean to say is that not all first-rounders are born equal.

To be fair to Wells, he can't predict injuries. No one could have predicted a broken leg (Brown), busted shoulders (Brown and Smedts), or knee reconstructions (Menzel and Thurlow). That's four out of five years where the first pick had major injuries. Can't blame him or the club for that.
