What I want: Ablett at a fair price, I.e. R3 pick. Otherwise walk away.

What 99% of geelong supporters want: Ablett at a fair price, I.e. R3 pick. Otherwise walk away.

What GC want: a price heavily in their favour in order to make a stand

What geelong will give up: close to what GC want coz we are the nice guys and must get Ablett at all costs. My prediction: Lang plus motlop compo (maybe a late pick back). So effectively Lang and motlop for a 34 year old with 15 games left. But we get more memberships so club thinks it's a win.

Gold Coast have picks 2, 19, 22, 24, 35 and 37. They need ready made players far more than they need a bunch of draftees. So GC's picks are up for grabs.

If Wells has his eye on a few players in this year's draft, Geelong may want to find some early picks and the deal involving Ablett and GC is the place they might be most likely to get them.

So I think the Ablett deal will get done and I'm thinking it could involve Geelong getting early draft picks as well as Ablett in return for more than one player. The only roadblock ... persuading anyone from Geelong to move to the suns.

Talk of Mitch Duncan for Ablett. WTF? Gary coming to the end of his career (with not-insignificant injury issues) for an important player coming into his prime? NO WAY!! If the club even thinks about this they are more f'in stupid than I thought possible...
Umm, read any of the past 100 pages? Been said 1000 times, debunked 1500 times mate.

Duncan was the driver when Gary packed his locker years ago, I want Duncan to be the driver when Gary comes back.

I would give them Lang, Blicavs, and Ghs.
We get Gary pick 22 and 37

Pros & Cons of going to Gold Coast.

Pro: Get paid more than your worth
Con: No finals probably ever
Pro: Guarenteed a game
Con: No one gives a shit about Gold Coast
Pro: It's sunny
Con: No recognition or fame for performance cause irrelevant club
Pro: Meter maids
Con: No coach and terrible culture
Pro: Clubs & Drugs
Con: Clubs & Drugs

If you just wanna get paid and have a good time. Wouldn't be that bad.

Could you imagine the look on Mitch Duncan's face?

I could be a leader, and potentially the next captain, in a stable Victorian club where playing in September is the norm, or I could hack out the rest of my days in a directionless, coachless rabble where the crowd doesn't care and I can safely book my trip to Bali on September 1st.

That is a hard choice.
Except his holidays might be ski resorts in Switzerland instead.

Statement from the Geelong Football Club.

“The Geelong football club has been weighing up this decision all year. It’s been difficult and it took until now to make a decision. Unfortunately we weren’t able to tell Gary Ablett in person. We sent him a text message to let him know of our decision. Sorry Garry we won’t be taking you on. Have fun on the Gold Coast. We remember the north remembers.”
