Re: Official GVFL thread

Hi Rockstarr the snow dropping is going fantastic, though these chilly nights are starting to take its toll...

Good to see the big boofhead has a 'special friend' on bigfooty to watch his back (no pun intended)...

:thumbsu:
I was going to suggest you should 'Head' to Narrandera this Sunday to watch your favourite player in action in his 200th game, but between snow dropping and fixing people's locks I really don't know how you'd find the time :D

Holly sh*t, Head has gone out and rounded himself up a posse!! I'd better watch my back as im sure you peanuts would be pretty close to having a whole brain between the three of you...

Unfortunately I cant make it up on sunday as I have town crier duties to attend to. Did head forget to mention that one when he was wording you up with some ammo to back him up with?

Keep doing your 'heads' in boys... great to watch...

peace

Re: Official GVFL thread

Alright, considering nobody has posted on here for a few days I'll get something cranking.

Anyone else going to jump on the Eagles for the flag at about $20? .. worth a punt I reckon.

And why have all the Euroa supporters gone quiet??? .. Usually we can't shut them up..

Heard that Hotton beat the pies himself. Kick after the siren or just berore it put the Weagles in front. And looks like the pies will get the 4 points from earlier swans game. any one confirm that.

Hey LR how is upper-antartica treating you? To paint a picture for you.... Last 30 seconds Luke Walsh marks strong out in front of the Euroa player up near the score board, turns him inside out, Hotton leading Hyatt to the goalsquare, Walsh hits Hotton with perfect kick 10 metres out after a 100 m sprint from Hotdog. Siren went as the ball was kicked.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Seeing as though I carry on about the Swans more often than not it's only right to drop into the thread and cop any flack from loss on the weekend.

..the bandwagon took a bit of a wrong turn on the weekend but we'll get back on track and bounce back...

Have no report or any details about the game other than the scores I read in H-Sun...any info or brief run down people have for me? Better side on the day won?

I not a swans supporter, but people out there shouldn't write them off too early (wait until the finals start at least). Take Bell and White out of that side and they suddenly have two huge holes to fill. A few more injuries this week will really test the depth of the swans list. I don't believe they have the depth in their reserves or thirds to cover key loses from the seniors. Another loss this week to Seymour. They could be sitting 4th or 5th after the Seymour game and then the spiral continues. Biggest game of the year for the swannies and the line of band wagon members. Could be a few seats hitting the market in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned.

Takin' care of business Echuca has delivered the best possible revenge for its gutwrenching one-point loss to Shepparton Swans in the opening round by touching up the flag favourite by 22 points.
Jumping out of the blocks in the opening term, coach Steven Orr said his side was determined to learn from its mistakes.
"It was a big scalp," Orr said.
"We spoke about what to do differently from the first time we played them, so we left our forward line open and pushed players up the ground to get the ball in quick.
"The first half was the best footy I've seen all year."
But like any quality side, the Swans regrouped at the major change, pegging the deficit back at one point to take the lead in the third term.
With 38 tackles for the day, however, the Murray Bombers held strong to take the points and create a handy buffer in the top six.
"It could have gone either way, so it was pleasing to see we didn't fall away," Orr said.
Swans assistant coach Lucas White said while his side was depleted though injury, it was no excuse for deviating from the team plan.
"We didn't respect them in the first half and they could have been up a lot more," White said.
"We came back in the third quarter, but the wheels fell off in the end."
With the return of ruckman Jarrod Sutherland, Josh Wilson created another avenue to goal at centre half-forward, while Glenn Dundovic continued his domination in front of goal with four.
White said further salt was rubbed into the wounds with the loss of Michael Hare (knee) and Lochie Veale (shoulder) to injury.
Sean Murphy booted a vital six for Echuca in the absence of fellow forward Brad Smith, who pulled out with a back injury on the eve of the clash, while ruckman Josh Edgar is expected to miss the next four weeks with a torn calf muscle.

Hey Brad, can you post the other articles that were in the shep news. Would be interested to read the article from the Mansfield v Euroa game, also an article in todays paper about Tim Hooper.

Hooper will vigorously fight charge of spitting By Christie Peucker

Seymour defender Tim Hooper will defend a spitting charge tonight when he fronts up to an independent Goulburn Valley Football League tribunal.
The interleague and two-time Seymour premiership player was reported on Saturday during the Lions' clash with Tatura under VCFL rule 19.2.2g (x) - intentionally, recklessly or negligently spitting at or on another person.
It is alleged by reporting boundary umpire Damien Taylor that Hooper spat on Bulldogs player Christian Barnett during the second quarter of the Lions' 110-point victory.
Club president Stuart Locke said both Hooper and the club would strenuously fight the charge.
"Such is the vigorous defence, Tim will be coming up from Melbourne to defend it," Locke said.
The tribunal will be held at 7 pm at the RSL.

Mansfield blesses Trent's Hotton socks By Christie Peucker

A last minute goal by Mansfield heavyweight Trent Hotton handed the Eagles their fifth win in six outings on Saturday, snatching a two-point victory against Euroa.
In an up-and-down clash, where the lead changed multiple times, Hotton was able to convert after some quick thinking by youngster Luke Walsh to take the lead and ultimately the game with only seconds remaining.
The Magpies looked home and hosed for their first win at Mansfield in four years, when a 50 m penalty against the home side resulted in a goal with 90 seconds to play, handing them a four-point lead.
With time still remaining and the ball bottled up in Mansfield's forward line following the centre bounce, a desperate attempt by the Eagles was rewarded as Hotton proved accurate in front of goal.
"Luke Walsh kicked it to Trent Hotton," Eagles coach Peter Tossol said.
"He was pretty composed for a young kid."
Up at quarter-time, Mansfield was then rattled in the second quarter when Euroa poured on five unanswered goals late in the term, three coming off the boot of Mark Jansz.
Regaining the ascendancy in the third, the Eagles handed Euroa its second loss on the trot.
"It was very disappointing," Magpies defender Scott Watson said.
"It's no good looking at the last couple of minutes, we missed opportunities that could have put us five or six goals in front.
"It makes it hard now to grab one of those top two spots."
Cam Hotton continued his impressive run for Mansfield, while Fraser Stevenson was dangerous in front of goal kicking four.

Tigers pack a punch By Teo Pellizzeri

Rochester needed just 10 seconds to assert itself on the contest against Kyabram on Saturday when Brodie Montague made a statement about how he would play for the rest of the match.
Montague was waved forward from the opening centre bounce by his teammates and was on the end of a perfect centre clearance to goal on the run from 30 m before the crowd even had a chance to blink.
Rochester dominated around the stoppages and was particularly good roving from contested packs, winning 21.19 (145) to 8.6 (54).
Montague went about collecting more than 10 possessions in the first quarter and had two of his four goals by the first change.
Only inaccurate kicking kept Kyabram in the contest early, but the margin was too far by the long break when the Tigers went in 51 points up.
The Bombers rallied to win the third quarter by six points but fell away badly in the last quarter as Elliot Bowen, Anthony McPhee and Dean Moon all performed on a day when Rochester had too many avenues to goal.
"We set ourselves high standards today," Rochester midfielder Heath Aitken said.
"It doesn't look like we'll get to finals, but today will give us confidence regardless, we wanted a good start and we got one.
"The area we've lacked this year is getting our heads in the game after half-time, we've been slow to react, but today when it was competitive in the third quarter we went on with it in the last."

Saints no match for fiendish foe Shepparton United's impressive 66-point victory against Benalla has been soured by another injury to one of its star players.
Tyson Sidebottom - who missed five matches with a broken foot earlier in the season - is expected to miss between six and eight weeks with a broken left arm.
The stylish on-baller was kicked in the forearm during a contest in the second quarter at Benalla Showgrounds.
Led by a brilliant performance from Justin Davies the Demons overcame inaccurate kicking in the opening term to slowly assert their dominance against the Saints, who had been forced to make seven changes to the team which downed Rochester in the previous round.
While Davies produced perhaps his best performance of the year which included three goals, star forward Matt Forys chipped in with 7.1 and prolific ball-winner Michael Barlow was again influential through the midfield.
Davies said Sidebottom's injury had put a dampener on an otherwise strong team effort.
"I know personally I've loved playing with Sidey since I've come back and all the boys are feeling his pain, especially after missing the first couple of months with his foot," Davies said.
"He's going to be sorely missed because he's such a great player, but we've just got to keep playing well and give him every opportunity to come back.
"Yesterday was a good performance from us, but hopefully we can keep improving and look forward to getting him back along with Gibbo (Russell Gibson) and Dawesy (Sam Dawes).
Vic Country representative Ryan Normington impressed in his first outing in his club's colours this season, while Joey Perkovic, coach Brad Hazelman and ruckman Justin Sutherland were great.
Benalla was rocked in the opening half with another serious wrist injury to brilliant ruckman Mark Porter, who underwent seasonending surgery on Saturday night to repair torn tendons.
Mark Mackenzie battled through the match with a leg injury and kicked four goals, while Brendan Stevens and Patrick O'Brien and Tim Swift worked hard.

Big Lions do some damage By Ashleigh Williamson

The absence of Saad Saad and Paul Scanlon hasn't prevented Seymour from recording a dominating 110-point win over Tatura.
Jeff Anderson (five goals) and Shane Schottner (four) were menacing up forward in the absence of Saad, while Brendan Liddell had the ball on a string and kicked five goals from the midfield to more than adequately fill the void left by Scanlon.
"Schottie was good in the ruck for a half then we threw him up forward, which is something we have wanted to be able to do all year but he's missed a lot of footy," Lions coach Bernie Haberman said.
"And Brendan has been good all year, but in particular the last month or so, it just goes to show you get rewards when you work hard and Brendan's work rate is first class."
Tatura was valiant, but Seymour had too much class right from the first bounce, kicking seven goals in each of the first two quarters and nine in the third, eventually icing the procession 25.21 (171) to 9.7 (61).
Luke Stevenson continued his purple patch of form for the Lions, while Nick McKinley and Jason Brun were shining lights for the Dogs.
Haberman said his side would now focus on next weekend's clash with Shepparton Swans, one that will let it know how it is travelling.
"Up until yesterday we were the only side to have beaten them, so they will be keen to beat us this time around," Haberman said.
"It's just as important for us to win, so it should be a good game of two sides out there having a crack and that's all I can ask of the boys."

Bad Bears are punished Undisciplined play has all but cost Shepparton a place in the finals after giving away close to a dozen 50 m penalties against Mooroopna on Saturday.
In a must-win match to keep their finals hopes alive, the Bears were unable to control their temper long enough to punish the Cats on the scoreboard, eventually going down by 21 points.
"I think we gave away 10 50 m penalties and six resulted in goals, so when you do the maths," assistant coach Jeremy O'Brien said.
"It seems to be happening a lot of late in the last month and if you get off-side with the umpires early those 50-50 free kicks aren't going to swing your way.
"We're two games out of the six now, so we need to win five out of the last six."
Conceding depth may make it difficult to do so, O'Brien said he could not rule out the possibility of dropping players who cannot control their emotions.
"Getting dragged for five minutes, whether that's enough?" he said.
"We played 25 minutes of disciplined footy in the last quarter and we came back from eight goals down to lose by three goals, so we know we can do it, we've just got to get that discipline."
Productive midfield play by both sides in the opening term gave only a three-point buffer to the Cats at the first change, before multiple 50 m penalties against the Bears stretched the margin to 31 points and left the home side goal-less for the quarter until the 25-minute mark.
The Cats went into overdrive in the third, pouring on seven majors, three of which came in the space of three minutes as the Bears were hit by injury - Tyson Saunders coming off with an ongoing shin injury.
While the Bears were able to peg back the 39-point three-quarter-time margin considerably in the final term, the deficit was too great in the end, with the efforts of Blake Campbell and Steve Cox rewarded with the four points.
"It was really pleasing," Cats coach Derek Hall said.
"We didn't want anything else - like a report - from the game other than the four points and we did that."

Re: Official GVFL thread

This thread is becoming too stale so thought I'd start this up similar to what theyve already done in the KDFL thread.

GF - Seymour v Echuca - Winner - Seymour
Reserves - Echuca v Rochester - Winner - Echuca
Morrison Medallist - No idea!!! Maybe Paul Scanlon!
Goalkicking - Saad Saad
Rookie of the year - this Barlow kid from United or Rockliff from Benalla

Thoughts people?
