Re: Official GVFL thread

This thread is becoming too stale so thought I'd start this up similar to what theyve already done in the KDFL thread.

GF - Seymour v Echuca - Winner - Seymour
Reserves - Echuca v Rochester - Winner - Echuca
Morrison Medallist - No idea!!! Maybe Paul Scanlon!
Goalkicking - Saad Saad
Rookie of the year - this Barlow kid from United or Rockliff from Benalla

Thoughts people?
GF - Seymour v Shepp Swans - Winner - Swans
Reserves - Echuca v Benalla - Winner - Echuca
Morrison Medallist - Michael Barlow
Goalkicking - Saad Saad
Rookie of the year - Klay Giovaninni.

Both Barlow and Rockliff were playing senior footy last year. Now it looks like Rockliff has cemented his spot in the Bushrangers and wont play for Benalla again this year.

Hooper will vigorously fight charge of spitting By Christie Peucker

Seymour defender Tim Hooper will defend a spitting charge tonight when he fronts up to an independent Goulburn Valley Football League tribunal.
The interleague and two-time Seymour premiership player was reported on Saturday during the Lions' clash with Tatura under VCFL rule 19.2.2g (x) - intentionally, recklessly or negligently spitting at or on another person.
It is alleged by reporting boundary umpire Damien Taylor that Hooper spat on Bulldogs player Christian Barnett during the second quarter of the Lions' 110-point victory.
Club president Stuart Locke said both Hooper and the club would strenuously fight the charge.
"Such is the vigorous defence, Tim will be coming up from Melbourne to defend it," Locke said.
The tribunal will be held at 7 pm at the RSL.
This doesnt sound like Hoops at all.

Thanks for the articles bradrowe.

Re: Official GVFL thread

As good a player Shane is Roger, Im led to believe he hasnt had a good year like last year, where he finished 2nd. His brother Mark has been far more consistant this year.
The umpires seem to love the ex AFL players though. They dont have to be playing that well to be noticed and he plays right under their noses which is far as they can see.

Guys, I don't understand everyones obsession with the Rochy reserves this year. Many have tipped them to play off in the granny. IMO they are a long way off Benalla, Echuca and Seymour. I know their seniors probably won't be in the finals but still, Echuca for me.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Should some clubs start to 'stack' their reserves sides now? Interested to know other peoples thoughts as to when senior teams need to concede they will not make the finals.

Benalla & Rochester spring to mind. Both are travelling quite well in the reserves, but probably need to get a few of their senior players into those sides if they are to go all the way.

I'm not a huge fan of dropping blokes back as it usually means some poor bugger gets squeezed out at the other end after playing virtually all of the home and away season.

Rochy ressies have beaten Benalla, lost to Echuca by a couple of points and lost to Seymour by 2 goals (it was only the 3rd quarter that cost them).

Maybe people are excited because they have been crap for years. They still have 4 senior guys that can come back into the team, but from what I've seen/heard, they are a pretty handy outfit.

I would have thought that the reserves flag is a four horse race between the four sides mentioned above. Rochester did beat Benalla over there and were missing players while Benalla had bushrangers back in their seniors which allowed them to field one of their stronger outfits in the twos. Rochester have to play Seymour and Echuca again on the run home to the finals, it will be interesting to see how those teams shape up when playing rochy away

Ash Watson is a very good player but does also turn the ball over. Would average high 30's for possession each week but misses half his targets. Rochester havent won enough games for him to win the medal and I reckon Hotton is a good thing. BOG 4 out of 6 wins

Rowey against Echuca were leading all day until an unfortunate mis-kick from the backline let Echuca win by 2 points.
Rochy ressies are the real deal and they will have a few seniors to pick from when finals arrive.

Spitting proves costly
Wednesday, 18th July 2007

Spitting proves costly A mouth full of grass has cost Seymour defender Tim Hooper a two-week suspension after being found guilty of spitting on Tatura's Christian Barnett.
Hooper's advocate Stuart Locke vigorously denied any wrongdoing on the part of the interleague representative.
Locke told the independent Goulburn Valley Football League tribunal last night he was simply removing grass and dirt from his month after being ridden into the ground by Barnett.
Reporting umpire Damien Taylor gave evidence that he witnessed Hooper give a spray of spittle at the face of Barnett at the 19-minute mark of the second term of his side's 110-point win against the Bulldogs.
Hooper pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Taylor, a first year umpire, said there had been no retaliation from Barnett except to say "hey come on" and following consultation with central umpire Gary Hosie decided it was a reportable offence and the pair informed Hooper of the report after the halftime break.
Barnett, told the tribunal, led by Jo Chant, that at no time did saliva make contact with him and that it landed at his feet.
He said he could not be sure if the action was intentional.
Hooper told the tribunal that with Seymour in possession of the ball, there was no need to get angry with Barnett for pushing his face into the dirt and just cleared the grass from his mouth.
Speaking of Hooper's impeccable record which includes a Wilf Cox Medal for the best and fairest player in a grand final, Locke called for a suspended sentence which was denied.
Lions secretary Gary Brown said the club was bitterly disappointed with the result.
"We are extremely disappointed when there was so much element of doubt," Brown said.

Yeah, they still have Tim Bubb, Sam Williams, Danny Ponting and maybe Adrian Pappin that have been playing seniors, but will qualify for the ressies. David Moon is a very good coach too.

Bit unlucky for Hooper, the Seymour players would have worn more saliva when steve daniel was coach than you could poke a stick at. Daniel should have got life if Hooper got 2 weeks.

As for Barnsy (Barnett), he probably did Hooper no favours. Ah well. Swans would be pretty happy.

From that, I would say Barnett helped him out as much as he could, what else do you think he could have said?

This is another prime example of how ****ed up, ******ed and inconsistent the GVFL tribunral system is. To think that a guy like Luke Chapman from Shepp can smash faces and get reported time and time again and get either off, or 2 weeks set penalty (when he removed dick waugh's nose from his face with an elbow) is beyond me.

Or how Sutherland can get 4 weeks for elbowing Saad, caught as clear as day on camera. To think that someone spitting grass out of their mouth is half as bad as putting a bloke in hospital is simply unjust.

Its time General Eric did an overhaul of this pathetic and ridiculous kangaroo court.

Oh...and one more example...Howse, 2005 semi, Luke Jackson rolls up to the tribunral with fingernail scratches all around his eye, and a black eye, and howse gets off????? Can anyone understand how the tribunral comes up with their verdicts?

We thought the AFL tribunral system was bad...GV is up there with the worst and most inconsistent of them all.

Timmy Hooper, you probably deserved two weeks for the shocking yellow boots you gave to poor jake anderson a year or so back. Scared the kid for life. Shame on you. Enjoy your break.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Just a couple of points.

1. Most country footy league tribunals are an absolute waste of time. I've been to a few and heard blatent lies which are obvious to everyone except the tools that sit on the tribunal. It's a waste of time for the umpires, defence, advocates and witnesses to even bother turning up because it seems that the tribunal just raffle their decisions and penalties regardless of the evidence given.

2. Brad Rowe - instead of clogging this forum up with posting every bloody article you read in the Shepp News, can you rather just post a link to it or just tell everyone how to access the story online themselves? This way those interested in the articles could go and have a look, and the rest of us don't have to scroll through 9 pages of posts.

You need a subscription and password to read Sheppnews online. I think posting them on here is fair enough.

Hey Brad, can you post the other articles that were in the shep news. Would be interested to read the article from the Mansfield v Euroa game, also an article in todays paper about Tim Hooper.
You need a subscription to access those articles. I only posted them because I was asked.

How about you have a think about that before you embarrass yourself again.

Re: Official GVFL thread

As someone who used to assist in a similar way to Rowey I dont see a problem with it. I dont have the access at present and as a footy tragic it's handy to read what's going on in the GV and surrounds as they dont sell the Shepp News in Kilmore where I recently moved.

Keep it up Rowey :thumbsu:
