Promoting White in order to leave one of the existing rookies as a nominated rookie next year perhaps?

Casboult, Cachia, Dare, Touhy? Or someone we haven't seen yet?

We've cut deeper than I thought we would - especially in this draft. ROK hopefully will find his way back on our rookie list. I'm not convinced we've seen the last of Donaldson yet either.

At least the argument of "who goes? - Anderson, Browne, or Johnson?" has been settled. Can't really complain about any of them. I would have kept Johnson, but he's had two years on a second chance to grab his career by the throat and hasn't. Travis Johnstone writ small. Fortunately he didn't cost us anything.

Anderson is probably a bit stiff given spuds like O'hAilpin and Thornton got another year (contracted or otherwise).

No, promoting White because he should be our 2nd picked defender every week after Jamison. Barring injury he will play every single game in 2011 and you will all be desperate to get on the bandwagon.

It'll be interesting to see who gets the nod. Of the current bunch, if Tuohy keeps improving the way he has he'd probably get it. Otherwise, with Hadley and Grigg going if Cachia has another impressive pre-season he might get it. We could end up with a mature age rookie that's ready to go as well.

Have cut away quite a bit of depth, but hopefully that isn't an issue if we draft intellegently. Still think there is a role for Johnson in our team, but oh well

Depth ??????

What friggen depth are you talking about ??

The guys they cut were spuds and were never going to make it, the door is now open to bring in some other guys and give them the same opportunity to make the grade as those just axed.

I honestly cannot believe some of the sh!te I'm reading in this thread, if people genuinely believe that Chris Johnson was going to be our saviour then I will give the game away.

It's about time the club showed some balls and pruned the deadwood, its the only way the tree has a chance of fully maturing.

Can't argue he deserves to be in the team each week (I've been on his bandwagon since he debuted). Still we could have done that and promoted someone else. He had another year to run as a rookie.

So who will be the nominated rookie next year? We've got four candidates, and you can bet your last dollar they'll be throwing themselves at the opportunity over summer.

3 rookies upgraded parrot...looks like 6 inclusions :thumbsu:

We are possibly looking at 3-4 in the ND and 2-3 in the rookie. There havent been any delistings so far that would warrant us going into the PSD to pick up a mature aged player, but there are a couple I would consider for the rookies list.

I would say that we are looking at 1-2 rookies really with ROK to come back in on the rookie list.

If we get a good fast inside mid and 2 KPP players, then I would say that we would be happy just taking the 3 draft picks and using the remaining picks in the rookie draft.

How do you get "Chris Johnson is our saviour" from "I think there is a role for Johnson on this team"? You hate the guy. We get it. I don't care if you like him or not, but the fact is that we did lose a lot of depth. You say that they rarely ever played, but that is why they are called DEPTH PLAYERS. They were there to cover injuries, suspensions and form slumps of our best 22. Yes we are replacing them, but the guys we will be adding figure to be mainly kids, rather than somewhat experienced players that we have just de-listed, so it makes sense that people are questioning what this means for the club.

Not a good way to treat our rookies, especially ones who genuinely deserve the promotion and a 2-3 year contract.

Can't really comment on the final rookie spot, haven't seen much of any of the young lads.

Sad Fish is never got the 100 games and hope it never comes back to bite us, also thanks to all the players who wore the navy blue and best of luck for the future guys, although you may not have been superstars you will always be remembered as part of the Carlton Family and have achieved something that most of us could only dream of and thats being a Carlton Player..

Sad to see Fish not grab a century, but his last game in seniors was mostly pedestrian. Never a fan of Ando or CJ - just didn't seem to have what it required; As for the rookies, no exposure so I cannot comment, but I wish all the ex-CFC boys well (although I wont be cheering Grigg anytime soon)

I'd have to say I'm happy with the changes. It's what I thought should have happened, especially if ROK does get a rookie spot.

It also means our dealings with Adelaide and getting pick 67 had a purpose which is some consolidation for losing Jacobs.

Although the 6 players delisted from our senior list were the 6 I thought most likely to go (thought one of Tiller/ROK would be kept) I am still quite surprised.

I was sure that we'd only delist 4 players, upgrade the three rookies, and use only our first 3 picks in the draft. As was previously said, I guess the pick 67 in the Jacobs trade now has some merit behind it.

I hope that one or both of ROK and Tiller get rookie-listed, with ROK the one I am more fond of as when he is fit he played some good footy off half-back in the VFL, and we all know how good his left peg is.

Just goes to show how things are slowly but surely changing down at the blues, if you don't cut it you are shown the door, there is no holding out in blind hope that player x who hasn't shown much might come good in 3 years time, etc, etc - the AFL is a cut-throat business and I'm glad we've adopted this approach finally.

Other than that, I wish all the boys the best for the future and hope they all find new homes.

Overall I'm quite happy about those changes.

Disappointing for Fish to be stranded on 99 games, would've been a certainty to get to 100 had he not done his knee during the preseason. A real hard luck story who seemed to constantly have some sort of injury. Really liked him at full strength but he hasn't been for quite some time and wasn't going to be in the future. Wish him all the best.

Tiller just didn't come on as expected. Sure, he was taken really young but failed to make any sort of push for a consistent game in the VFL seniors, let alone a game for Carlton. Should come as no real surprise that he hasn't been offered another contract.

I'm a bit surprised, although not disappointed that Johnson has been delisted. Thought he played reasonably well in most of his games this season, where he showed some things in his game that were severely lacking in 2009. Obviously that just wasn't enough. I wouldn't have lost sleep if we kept him on for another season but was only ever going to be as a depth player so I can understand the club wanting to replace him with a kid.

Browne had a pretty good debut season in 2008 but just didn't kick on as expected. Took a backward step in 2009 and again in 2010 so was always going to be touch and go. I liked him, but not having a particular stand-out aspect to his game probably hurt him. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see a club give him another shot as a rookie, maybe back in WA.

ROK just hasn't been able to take a trick since joining the club, with injuries really robbing him of any opportunity to establish himself in an AFL environment. I've said for most of the year that I expect him to get the chop and that I'd like us to re-select him as a rookie, and it looks like that may well eventuate. They really seem to rate him at Visy Park so I suspect they'll be giving him every opportunity to get his body right, his career back on track and a chance to make it in the big league.

Anderson is the one I am most surprised by. I know there are a heap of supporters that didn't have any time for him, but I thought he showed a fair bit. No star, clearly, but a solid depth player. Has clear limitations, but I thought he was coming along OK. Would love to see him get another go somewhere and prove the club wrong, however unlikely that may be.

As for the elevations, can't complain about them in the slightest. Garlett was confirmed earlier in the year when he signed a 2 year deal. Ellard was a certainty after breaking into the Carlton team late in the season and performing quite well, despite some people on here saying he wasn't good enough and wasn't going to get just reward for effort (I'm looking at you, TG). White I'm surprised about - that's not to say I'm disappointed, because I am not in the slightest - but I thought we may have kept him on the rookie list for another year as a nominated rookie. May well play a fair bit of senior footy next season, and all but confirms that Thornton will struggle to play a senior game in 2011.

Well done to the 3 rookie elevations, and best of luck to those that are no longer with us. Many of you have done something that most of us can only dream of - representing the Carlton Football Club and for that you should be commended.

Great Post, Jeremias; obviously from the heart. Don't agree with Ando, but you are obviously more knowledgeable than I.

Doubt that we'll look back and say we stuffed up by letting a star go to make it at another club.

I guess we didn't have any takers in trade week either. The other clubs would have known that could be acquired cheaply later on. I doubt that we'll have any problem putting O'keeffe back on our rookie list if we want to.

Even though they wanted out, we're better off having Thornton and O'hAilpin on our list than O'keeffe and Fisher. We'll get more from them as depth than the fringe players and untried players we've cut. It's better to make the hard calls now like Fremantle did last year and bring in some fresh blood. We might look at a delisted player like the Dockers who drafted McPhee.

Next year will be a harder cull.

Thornton, O'hAilpin and possibly Scotland.

Austin needs a big year.

Walker might ask for a trade.

Houlihan could eek out another two seasons and play to 30.

no surprises here. Johnson was an experiment. Fisher and Anderson would've been delisted last year but for contracts. Browne was struggling as rookies AJ & DE passed him. 3 youngsters who couldn't get on the park for the bullants.
Only a fresh influx of potential will see us rise. Clearing out the dead wood gives greater opps to those who remain such as kerr and 2nd year rookies.
As for depth, our e-final team was missing kreuzer, hampson, houlihan, austin, white, lucas and mcclean (yarran too i think). Not to mention BT and So'hA.
