I would say that now we dont have any list cloggers.

We have players who might not make it, but cant yet be deemed a list clogger.

It's been a long, long time coming..

We're slowly getting there, good signs.

Can anyone seriously see Casboult making it? I can't. Worth another year for sure though.

Internet.

It doesn't make you stupid, It makes your stupidity more accessible to others.

;)

Yes.

Yes I do believe he will make it. The club has been extremely happy with the development of Casboult. And you only have to go down to training or to VFL matches to see with your own eyes that the kid will be a fantastic forward prospect for the future.

Very good that day. I see all the games by the way.

I just don't see him making it. One of the poorest kicking actions you'll ever see. As I said, worth persisting to see if he develops further.

I love how people come on here claiming to be the messiah of all football knowledge. In my book he won't cut the mustard at AFL level. Hope to be wrong ofcourse.

A lot of players have been given huge wraps only to fail, some without ever playing a game. Just because you think someone will make it, dosen't make the opposing opinion wrong.

Like you did just there bud?

I never said your opinion was wrong, i just disagreed with it. Lachie had a terrible kicking action also but he's improved a lot and is still working on it.

Levi is developing in one of the hardest positions in football. It could take a while...

If you want to talk about list cloggers .... Thornton , O'Hailpin both who also stated that they dont wanna be at the club ...add Betts in their too ...way way too inconsistent for the amount of games hes played ...doesnt show enough sustained effort ..I can go on

I wasn't referring to you. I appreciate opinions and that's all I was asking for.

Hope I'm wrong about him as that will be a plus for Carlton.

A very unpopular opinion you have there, but I do agree with it to some extent. His kicking leaves a bit to be desired and he obviously doesn't have the motor at this stage of his development. From the games I've watched he doesn't use his size in the marking contest so they'll need to work on that as well.

I honestly see him as a 40-60 chance of making it, though this boy is one you really need to assess after a full preseason methinks. :thumbsu:

Betts? As in Eddie Betts? Our 23 year old leading goal scorer with 42 and 40 assists? Who despite being only 173 tall was often our main forward target?

Whether he likes it or not the kid drinks too much.

How do you get "Chris Johnson is our saviour" from "I think there is a role for Johnson on this team"? You hate the guy. We get it. I don't care if you like him or not, but the fact is that we did lose a lot of depth. You say that they rarely ever played, but that is why they are called DEPTH PLAYERS. They were there to cover injuries, suspensions and form slumps of our best 22. Yes we are replacing them, but the guys we will be adding figure to be mainly kids, rather than somewhat experienced players that we have just de-listed, so it makes sense that people are questioning what this means for the club.

What a load of crap !!!

If you look at Collingwood's list, they have "depth". A player is injured, suspended or loses form and they replace him with a readymade A-Grader with little or no disruption to the team.

When one of our players is injured or loses form who do we replace them with ?? Yes, thats right, someone from out at the potato farm !!

If these guys who are on the back-up program are not readymade & capable senior footballers (ie. they have the skills, talent & endeavour to play senior footy) then they ARE NOT part of the so-called "DEPTH" you keep talking about.

They are list cloggers and have been given enough time to develop their game and secure a senior spot but have failed to do either !!

We have finished 8th & lost our first final two years in a row yet you think we somehow have depth on our list ........ good grief ...... !!!

We also have a defensive unit short on key position players plus we need another key forward and the only way to bring them to the club is to make room for them, not by hanging on to players who are lucky to be playing at the Ants.

Earth to TNBT, time for major list changes if we want to be a genuine finals contender.

I don't mind a debate, but this type attitude is just not balanced.

For starters Collingwood had virtually nil injuries all year (That helps things along somewhat)

Collingwood had a refined game plan and we are just not to that level as yet.
Maybe, just maybe, it may have a little more to do with that rather than the depth of cattle Collingwood actually have.

Agree with the injuries and the refined gameplan Harker and I don't suscribe to the view that at the drop of the hat that they could just bring "a-graders" in, but what they did have was a good solid group of experienced finals campaigners to call on. The leadership and experience of their two recruits in Ball and Jolly to me were major factors once they found their feet and that just added to the experience they could already call upon.

Betts had the bloke who won the Brownlow kicking it into the 50 to him. If the Scott Clayton theory is to be believed, in regards to the importance of inside 50s in football, then really, it's not that so much a feather in Betts' cap. After all, Setanta kicked over a goal a game in his appearances this season, and there's a fair calling for his head at the moment.

Have a read through this - http://www.fanfooty.com.au/players/news.php?type=player&firstname=Eddie&surname=Betts

and you will find an alarming amount of references to "Most of his goals in Q4 when game decided", and a lot of shocking games against quality opposition. His two games against Collingwood, the final against Sydney, crucial late season games against the Cats and Dockers, etc delivered terrible results. Even his best game of the year against the Saints, those 5 goals came in the second half after we were well in front.

Find me one Eddie Betts good performance in a crucial game, or even during a crucial period in the game. His final in 09 was equally appalling.

The only difference between him and Leon Davis is that Leon Davis has had far more opportunities to fail on the bigger stage. Given that Betts' seasonal stats improve each year usually by around 5-7.5%, I expect a bit more of the same, we'll probably get a 50 goal season out of him according to the stats, but I have little doubt that once again, he'll fail against the better opponents or when it matters.

Exactly, and they were the best team for the year no doubt, but had that little ball bounced 50cm the other way and had Milne somehow threaded that goal, all the talk would have been about St.Kilda right now and how to emaulate what they are doing and how the depth of St.Kilda had held them in good stead come crunch time.

That is what I mean by unbalanced. The truth gets lost somewhere amongst the hype.

Fair enough, although it probably would have been an unjust result, all the same I really do wish that the ball did bounce 50cm the other way :D

I actually believe that even if Collingwood had lost a number of the same things still would have been said and that a lot of what Collingwood has done would have been copied as it was with StKilda and Geelong when they lost. The difference would have been the joy many would have felt at Collingwood losing another big game IMO.

I don't believe we have seen the best of him either, however I think we take completely different things out of that. I see that as a positive as I believe his trade value will go up next year. Still has two years on a fairly under-valued contract by market standards, and I'm sure clubs will cough up.

I couldn't care if he kicks 200 goals a year, if they are irrespective to whether we win, lose or draw at the end of the game.

Garlett has surpassed him, and he also has a worrying history of soft tissue injuries for someone so young in AFL terms. At the very least, I'd be interested to see how another club would play him, perhaps not in the leading forward role, or with a key forward not quite as selfish in terms of forward line space.
