He's been flogging that horse all year , similar to the 'Browne is a much better player than Ellard' comments :D:thumbsu:

Scotland had a solid year in 2010. We need his leadership and experience in our 22. But with saying that, he will have to always be on the ball as the youngsters are developing quickly in the VFL like Tuohy and Dare.

I never really rated Browne as a player. Ellard is a workhorse and applied himself more and had passion to make his way off the rookie list. But sadly, he is too small and lacks class.

The tiges have been claiming that for how many decades this time of year?
Really dislike the term list clogger though. Afl is a tough gig and most players bust their nut trying to get a game ,some with much less "skills ,potential " make it due to an uncompromising drive. Always sad to see players go such as Fish etc and I hope ROK gets rookied. On the flip side I see this as a sign that even though we have been going for best available we know we have needs to fill and want to fill those needs now with a view to a few years down the track. Pretty happy so far :)

I really like Eddy's flamboyance, so I am possibly a bit biased. .. but how is it over rating him to say he is not a dud when he was: team leading goal kicker; league leading goal assists (2nd of avg); twice as many goal contributions as the next team mate (5th in the league); and I cannot find the stat but I believe he was leading Carlton early in the season for first hands on the ball at stoppages. .. Not to mention that when our fwd line malfunctioned he was the go to leading forward and quite often beat a taller opponent in the marking contest. ..

Having said that I agree that Garlett appears to have more upside but still has a way to go to prove himself. .. So does Eddie, who at 23 is still at least a year if not two years away from his potential peak (even for a small forward). ..

Edit: and all those Eddy stats came in a year where I think he was down on confidence due to his kicking. .. He'll score less goals as our other forwards progress but if he gets his kicking confidence back then everything seems bright for our forward line. ..

I really don't understand the Betts hate. It seems to only be coming from one person (I'm looking at you AVCO), so I'm starting to think he's just a hater. Betts was arguably our best forward last season, and seems to contribute in a lot of areas. I really don't know what your problem with him is.

We are all forgetting about Labi. He will join our rookie list in the upcoming rookie draft i would imagine.

Eddie has three years to go before he needs the same tank as Davis. How old do you think Davis was before the midfield move. Even when playing as a small forward he still never made the forty goal mark, nor do I think he had eddie's goal assist success. Equal top in the comp this season and equal second last year. It's not a bad effort.

I think the timing of Davis' introduction into Collingwood's midfield had a lot more to do with list management and lack of other options than necessarily being ready to play there.

As soon as Ball came in this year, as well as natural improvement in Wellingham and Beams, Davis barely played there this year.

In terms of the forty goal mark - hard to mark given, as I mentioned, Davis was never really a go to player, plenty of targets I've already mentioned ahead of him, and was never spotted as an inside 50 target as Betts is/was. Not sure whether if the roles were reversed, if Davis had the natural consistency to kick 40+ a season under Fev's feet, or on his own.

Would be interested in having a look at the goal assist stats and seeing the correlation between having a decent midfielder smashing it at the clearances/inside 50s, and therefore essentially being a link in the chain rather than creating the opportunity yourself, or even just how the likes of Cloke and Mooney do in that category also.

it takes a special person to recognise that sin, and you are real special as i have told you in the past mate.

When is this ****wit getting cited for its sig? Action please, enough already. :thumbsd:

I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that Eddie would be on the shakiest ground of the 3 amigos. That's not to say he can't play or is on the outer....but small forwards are a position we have great depth in and if trading one got us the AFL standard CHB we're crying out for, who do you think is most likely to be offered up?

I think its called memory loss. Sure its easy to forget anything before Betts' last month or two but before then he was AA squad contention.

Hey BIB, how committed to this are we? Obviously, there is a chance that another club could take him before we do. Are we going to use an early rookie pick to get him or roll the dice an hope he is there later on?

Thanks

ANY rookie we delist and who is not picked up in the ND or PSD we are entitled if we so wish to claim for re-rookieing before the start of the rookie draft and then no one else can touch him/them - as a result we use or last pick/s in the rookie draft for any re-rookies.

I sat there some games this year muttering "It's true, Eddie Betts really is our full forward" as another well-aimed bomb landed on his head and was cleared upfield.

Or we could look at the correlation between actually having a creative force on your forward line and how it helps the other forwards perhaps. Not sure any playing the small role would kick forty at Fev's feet, Bett's didn't.

So perhaps Eddie's move into the midfield might be held back by other factors rather than his terrible fitness which has improved just as his overall game has and I think he just might be doing a little better in his time trials. You never know within three years he might be able to play midfield or our midfield might be so good he may not get a chance;)

Although the thought of Yarran,Garlett and Betts rotating through the midfield for short bursts does have it's seductive charm.

You think he is trade bait, I don't. You think the stats that he is a leader in don't mean much, I don't. We both agree he has improved, you don't think that means much, I do. If we are to trade him as you hope, then lets pray that other clubs have my view of him and not yours for the sake of getting a good price for him:thumbsu:

We're slowly getting there, good signs.

Can anyone seriously see Casboult making it? I can't. Worth another year for sure though.

I think that Casboult is going to make it... in fact, I think that he will, in a couple of years, be our FF and will kick on to made a massive name for himself.

Strikes me as a bit of a poor man's Tom Hawkins. Haven't completely shut the door on him just yet, but really needs to add a few more strings to the bow if they're going to even consider promoting him to the senior list.

Tom Hawkins is a poor man's Tom Hawkins, he is still trading on the hype that proceeded his first games due to his obvious pre-made build. ..
