All sniping in here please. Promises to be a big match. Liverpool have a UEFA Cup match in Bucharest on Thursday to negotiate first, Owen isn't going - he had better be fit for the weekend.

Thoughts? I can't see us winning myself. But you never know I guess. I'd take a draw at the moment.

I'll be happy to get a draw.

Rio Ferdinand's mind isn't on the job, and I don't fancy having him and Gary Neville's trying to keep Owen and Kewell under control. Nontheless, both will start along with Fortune (who has been a useful player) and Silvestre.

I'm hoping that Keane starts and that Fergie partners him with Phizza Neville, Nicky Butt, or Djembax2 - midfield grunt will be essential. Giggs will be there and Fletcher should get a starting place ahead of Ronaldo.

As for the strikers, it's RVN and Forlan.

I'm loving the Man U fans trying to claim underdog status. Please - any Liverpool victory will be one of the greatest in the club's illustrious history. Any Man U win is just a regulation 3 points. ;)

Now come on, you know the form book gets thrown out the window with these games.

Anyway, it's an Anfield where we know that Owen is allowed to take as many goes as it takes for him to nail a penalty and it's also okay to have 3 Liverpool players off side when setting up a goal.

And they have even started whinging about the refs before the match has started. :D

I finally got to see that goal where the 3 Liverpool players were "offside" - not even Fergie could argue with it. They were all about 10 yards out of the play, and the goalie had an unobscured view of the shot (which he promptly fumbled and let in).

Fergie wouldn't argue ... he would just say that there was a 'deal' done with the FA.;)

How are Arsenal and Chelsea big clubs?

18 titles, 4 European Cups (when they meant something), etc

Arsenal and Chelsea do not even come close.

ManYoo are getting there, despite their inablity to do anything substantial in Europe (leaving the fluke in 1999 to one side).

How aren't Arsenal a big club?

10 Division 1 titles, 2 Premier League titles, 9 FA Cup's, 1 UEFA Cup.

Not to mention more succesful than Liverpool in the Premier League, which is what matters NOW.

Chelsea, sure, but Liverpool are bigger than Arsenal now? Come off it. Liverpool aren't even a "power club" anymore, and are at the same level as Birmingham, Manchester City and Fulham.

And are in 8th.

Harder competition to win these days.

No more early round training runs against part-time Norwegian farmers when Liverpool were tripping their way to silverware.

Have to disagree there Shinners. Knockout ties against CHAMPIONS of their respective leagues was much harder than what we have at the moment.

One slip up back then and you were out, now you get to play against an assortment of runner-ups, third place getters and sometimes fourth place getters, seeding ensures that you don't have to play the top sides until the end of the comp, and with the round robin format now you get second, third sometimes even fourth chances.

Having said all that United will beat the scousers 1-3.

Yeah, what the hell is going on there? I'm sure this game was originally listed as an 11:30PM start which I could handle.

12:45 when I have to work on Monday is bloody terrible. Might have to tape it and get up early to watch it before work.

On the flipside, these points have to be made:

You may have played the CHAMPIONS of the respective leagues, but then again, I'd much rather face the Danish or Polish champions than the 2nd or 3rd best teams from Spain or Italy.

The national ranking system means that those champion teams from Eastern Europe get eliminated before they make it to the group stages. The system also awards places to the countries with the best performing club sides.

Under the old system, the strong clubs were almost certain to draw at least one "weak" side in the opening two rounds before hitting a strong side in the semi finals - there was even one season where Nottingham Forest faced the might of part-timers Malmo in the final. Under the new system, it's almost inevitable that clubs will face another powerful club in the knock out stages.

And the player closese to the keeper actually came from an onside position. It was an excellent refeering decision.
