Haven't we beaten Liverpool in all 17 titles?
Heh, heh, heh. I meant have them right behind us in 2nd place.

Imagine the final day again. United on top with Liverpool in Chelsea's position. A few minutes to go and both teams are winning 1-0. Then, going into injury time, we concede a goal. Liverpool just have to hold out for another minute or two and they win the title. But with seconds left, Gerrard passes the ball back to Reina, but fails to notice an opposition player lurking nearby.....his backpass is intercepted and a goal is scored.

For a few minutes, Liverpool were champions elect. With seconds to go, they hand the title back to United.

Now that would be gold.

As for beating Liverpool to win our next 2 titles.. they are pretty much guaranteed to finish 4th yet again.. 3rd if they're lucky so that is as good as we will get I guess.
Despite the filth being nothing more than an on-going joke for the last 20 odd years, I'm still somewhat scarred from seeing them win everything in the 80s. Every year I sort of expect them to break their drought. It's got to happen sooner or later, doesn't it?

The good thing for us is that since we started winning titles again, in the years we haven't been so good, there has been another side that have kept Liverpool out of the running. As long as this continues (and I pray to Cantona that it does), we've got a good chance to overtake them and reach 20 titles before they do.

By the way, next season will be very hard. It's notoriously difficult to win 3 titles in a row. Off memory, Huddersfield, Arsenal, Liverpool, and ourselves have all done it once. We've gone back to back 3 times now.

Now we've won 10 Premier League titles, how does everyone else rank them?

Here are my rankings from George Best to Pete Best.

93/94 - This side won the double and were unlucky not to have won a domestic treble. But the 93/94 side had the best United XI that I'd ever seen: Schmeichel, Parker, Pallister, Bruce, Irwin, Kanchelskis, Ince, Keane, Giggs, Hughes, Cantona. Some of the football this side played was just sublime.

98/99 -The treble winning side. Some of our football in the first half of the season was ordinary, but we got results. As the season went on, the side got stronger and better. There was an unbelievable self-belief in the side as seen in the escape acts we did against Liverpool (FA Cup), Arsenal (FA Cup), Juventus (Champions League), and Bayern Munich (Champions League).

92/93 - This was the drought breaking team. Kids that Fergie had nurtured in the late 80s were starting to mature, and the final 10 point margin belied just how tight the title race was for most of the season. AS an aside, to show how much football has changed, Aston Villa, Norwich City, Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers were the other sides that finished in the top 5.

02/03 - The team that came from about 7 points behind Arsenal with about 2 months left. Arsenal self-destructed, and I reckon that part of that was due to the mind games that Fergie was employing against Arsenal.

95/96 - This season is famed for two comments. Hansen's "You won't win anything with kids" and Keegan's "I'd love it, just love it". At one stage, we were 12 points behind Newcastle, but we kept on closing the gap. But the real joy was seeing players like Scholes, Neville, Beckham, and...er....Nicky Butt....making their mark on the team.

06/07 - It looked like Arsenal and Chelsea had taken football to a level that was beyond Fergie's thinking, and yet, he re-invented himself and the team. Some of the football that this team played was as good as the 93/94 side, and I remember posting last season about how gutted I would be if the football they played wasn't rewarded with the title. Chelsea kept up the chase, and we got over the line. The team looked exhausted by the end of the season.

07/08 - This season's side. In terms of beautiful football, I don't think we played as well as 06/07. But in terms of effectiveness, the team got the job done. It was a see sawing season with Arsenal setting the pace and, twice, they broke away from us. Twice we closed the gap, and when we had the title within reach, Chelsea made their run. We might have moaned about Fergie's late season team selections, but as he often shows, he's a great strategic thinker.

00/01 and 01/02 - These two sides are on par with each other. These were United's two most comfortable title wins, with both titles pretty much sealed before Christmas. But as United fans sang at the end of the 01/02 season, "We won the league again, this time in second gear". These wins were more about the crapness of our opposition than our own excellence. In some ways, the lack of competition cost us in Europe as we lost that hard edge that you get from facing tough domestic opponents.

96/97 - Another title, but the football was uninspiring.
United pretty much strolled to the title, and the most notable thing about this season was that it was Cantona's last.

No Taiibi? (I don't think he actually won a title in his time but the opportunity was too good to pass up)
He was at the club when we won a title, but he didn't play enough games to get a medal. Bosnich and Van der Gouw shared the goalkeeping duties and received Premiership medallions.

We would still be watching the EPL champs in Moscow, though I wouldnt be cheering for them to win the thing.;)

Watched the game at the Burswood casino, because I dont have fox at home. Worked out well, as the two big screens had Man United vs Wigan and Chelsea vs Bolton on them, and the smaller screens had other sport and the relegation games on them. Pretty good atmosphere, but geez I heard some dumb comments in there.

First massive cheers when Chelsea scored, despite the fact that United were in front, then these classics
"Sheva is worth every penny"
"We can still overcome the goal difference"
"If we win by more then United we win the League"
"Why arent Liverpool on TV?"
"Where is Arsenal??"
"Which one is the Grand Final?"
"Avram is by far more tactically astute then either Mourinho or SAF"
"What has Giggs ever done for United?"

Classic:D:D
So VB=G and his friends were at the Burswood?

That's gotta be worse than a band-wagoner. Least band-wagoners would know the current season somewhat!

I honestly couldnt believe that bloke asking me which one was the important one. Obviously a big AFL fan with not much between the ears. Announced himself as a massive Chelsea fan, who had been behind the team since Ranieri, and was right behind Mourinho. I told him Mourinho hasnt managed for about 6 months. He says shit, well who coaches now, I said the frog lookalike. He noted the good tactics of Avram, by having a team like Drogba, Ballack, Shev etc... I asked who he rated he said mainly Sheva... it just went on, I couldnt believe it.

Not just the Chelsea fans either, a lot of Man U fans that asked why was the replay of the West Ham vs Man U on instead of the live action (where Blackburn wins the title on the last day) and that they should get the live stuff on because we are missing shit. Half of them didnt even know it was Manchester United in the black and yellow and when I told a guy it was Man U on, he asked why Ronaldo was missing.

A good atmosphere caused by a few knowledgable fans plus some pissed bandwagoners but geez somewhere just plain stupid.

BTW how many games do you need for a premiership medallion? I have probably gone from ridiculing the stupid to becoming one though...

Stole this from someone else with the help of google.

I remember SAF wanted to give Henrik Larrson a chance of a medal if we won the league at one stage.

Section B of the premier league rules states:

27. The League Champions shall further receive 21 commemorative medals to be presented by the Club to its Manager and to such of its Players and Officials as it thinks fit provided, in the case of a Player, that he has that Season played in a minimum of 10 of its League Matches. Additional medals may be presented with the consent of the Board.

Not as bad as what you experienced last night, but during the 2006 World Cup, I was on a train to Uni and had these 2 asian girls standing infront of me talking about the Australia vs Japan match overnight.

One starts talking about how they love soccer and how she loves Chelsea. They just came off back to back league title wins ofcourse. Just had to roll my eyes.

Then she follows it up by saying she loves Brazil for the World Cup. Also added Japan for a perve.

Hmm, 2006... I thought I was heading into Uni and I finished in 2005 so I put in 2004. Wonder where the hell I was going then!

The rest of the story is true though, just not the year :p It was definitely after Chelsea's back-to-back titles.

BBC reports we're looking at Owen and Richards.

Not interested in Owen at all. Richards would be great, providing Man City don't ask for too much.

If we could get a look at Miroslav Klose too, that'd be nice ;)

Only reason I think we'll go for Owen is to find Saha a buddy. Wonder if we're planning to sell Saha as I haven't seen any reports of him leaving.

Hard to see City willing to sell a young player with lots of potential to their most hated rivals.

If they do, I'd assume that they'd put an asking price that'd be a lot higher than what they wanted for SWP from Chelsea.

Wonder if we'd get anything decent for Silvestre on another note. You'd think Saha'll go. If he doesn't go back to France, could easily see him on a year long loan at Sunderland.
