Re: N.Ablett having some time away

Anyone who moderates a forum and has little idea about whats been going on in it concerning this subject has issues imo.
Do you want a holiday, marty?

Go back and have a read at all the fanboys who crushed me for saying Nath wouldn't make it... I had next to no one backing me up but stuck to my guns, the result being I have every right to get up on the high horse.
If you weren't so aggressive with your opinions then people would accept and possibly respect them a little more. Your "I'm right, your wrong" attitude when questioned hardly wins you any friends.

Re: N.Ablett having some time away

All you who supported Nathan Ablett until you were blue in the face need to accept the fact that Marty was right and you were wrong.
So once again, to all those who have egg on their face, suck it up, and look forward to the emergence of one Tom Hawkins.
I gladly accept that, currently, martyk has been proven right in the attitude area, but not the ability area. He has constantly been going on that he is not good enough in ability, but this year he has shown that he is good enough. Maybe not a star, but good enough. So for martyk to come on here and sprout off that 'I was right, you were wrong' is not necessarily the full picture.
And like was pionted out, he was wrong on pretty much every other point he made during the season... so I'll give you this one marty.

Personally, I hope Nath comes back eventually, but agree that Hawkins was always were the future lay.

Re: N.Ablett having some time away

Noone has been proven anything yet as nathan is at this time just having a break. I think that some peoples need to feel vindicated or something is a bit premature. Nathan is a raw talent and if he plays on is probably still a few years away from his best. But if he calls it quits then he goes as an AFL premiership player which is downright more than anyone here has ever achieved.

Re: Nathan to play on

Sounds good.
There are so many stories being told at the moment..
I would give it a few days and then we will officially know what Nathan has
decided to do.

I hope he comes back but it is his personal desicion. He only said a few days
ago that he wanted time off training to think about it all.. and he is back 5
days later with a desicion?

Does anybody know if there is an article on a website?

Literally shaking in my boots. If you feel you need to stoop to that level after making it clear you think I have issues and I have a mild stab back... go for your life oh powerful one...

I throw different things up to see how people react. When I challenge others opinions it promotes discussion, isn't that the purpose of a forum? Despite what people say, I'll gladly back up my own opinions on here. Wouldn't it be just plain boring if we all agreed with each other??

Re: Do you think Nathan will be back?

Fair enough. Point taken. And yes, it's certainly not an insult to have depression, and certainly nothing to be ashamed of. However it undoubtedly does have a stigma, particularly in competitive sport. I just think, for that reason, it's not a word that should be thrown around willy nilly. Certain types of speculation are not that helpful.
I don't seem the harm in raising the issue. As you say, there is a stigma, but stigma's are only reinforced by not dicussing them openly. Really discussion about whther Nathan has depression shouldn't be any different from whether Chapman has OP. In Nathan's case he is especially likely to be comfortable with the topic considering his dad has suffered from it.

Despite this, I think its unlikely he has depression, which isn't hereditary. The more likely reason he is giving it away is that he is a lazy religous nut case.

Ideally this would be true; and yes, perhaps the only way to remove the stigma is to talk about it. However, you have to pick and choose your cases carefully, rather the subject should pick and choose.

There is a difference between discussing a persons situation when they have publicly stated they have depression, and openly speculating as to whether someone has the illness.

The later isn't helpful to the individual on any level. Particularly if it turns out that they do have depression. In which case it could be potentially damaging, depending on where they're at in their treatment.

A family member of mine had a chat to Nathan in the last 24 hours, and although not asked directly, seems Nathan has made up his mind to finish up.

this seems to be the case, but in the new year once he starts working for 60k, and working 60-70 hour weeks it will be different, at the moment, he has not experienced the other side. Everyone needs to remember gazzajnr had a blinder 07 after a full preseason, he too was lazy previously

the kid is naive, and after working his ass off elsewhere will then return

mooney might be the one to talk him into coming back,

I understand that, should he hold to his decision to retire, we will retain him on the list indefinitely - which is clearly the thing to do in the hope he changes his mind. I wondered whether that would mean we remained one player short or whether the same deal as a long term injury applies whereby a rookie replacement is permitted?

1. Although the jury is still out I think you'll find that more and more medicos are saying that you are much more likely to suffer depression if it is in the family ie. it is inherited. It just takes some trigger for those so disposed to begin to suffer.
2. Your prejudices are hanging out Jimboy. Religous [sic] nut case??? lazy?

How many people leave a job because they don't like it or more likely don't like the sh*t that goes with it? Plenty I am thinking. I've done it and so have many friends. What about you? We move on. So what has Nathan done to cop this serve from you- hes just doing the same.

If you are disappointed Jimboy , join the club, but lets wish the kid well - not hang undeserved bigoted rubbish on him.

I still think the young bloke will be back. A year or two in the real world is what a lot of youngsters need to help them work out where there real talents are.
If we see him in the hoops at 25-26 it will be something to watch. Remember please, some of us remember having seen his dad struggle with exactly the same issues.

Good luck Nathan
