TRS would you take the punt on Swift??

And you reckon Michael Hurley will be definitely gone.

I am not Sure on Swift because sort of Reminds me of Morrison story where he Just played u-16 and no u-18 but Swift seems have it Right in the Head.

Hurley will be gone by pick 6

If we land one of Ziebell, Hartlett, Swift, Yarran or Sidebottom I'd be rapt. If we end up with Blease, Hill, Vickery or Trengove I'd still be reasonably happy. If we go with anyone else I'll be a little disappointed but intrigued with Hine's decision.

Note: I believe there is no chance that Watts, Natanui, Rich or Hurley will slide to 11. Ziebell and Hartlett sliding is just wishful thinking but I have a feeling we may get one of the first 5 mentioned.

I had a look over on the Essendon board and a bloke over there seems adamant that they will take Sidebottom at 5.

Seems he knows a bit about Essendon recruiting.

Add another bolter to the top 10, and we could end up with something we thought was out of our reach.

I don't even Consider him as a Ruckman at 196cm he's about 4cm short for me, See him as a CHF/CHB, Just like what I saw of him. Seems a Footballer

McKernan isn't really one of those pure footballers is he? Isn't his leap and his mobility a calling card of his?

Personally I think it was just some crappy cliche from Dave when he couldn't actually think up a proper reason for rating him so highly.

I remember the uproar when we drafted Pendlebury at 5. Thomas at 2 wasn't very well recieved, and even in 2006 people were a bit miffed with Reid.

McKernan isn't really one of those pure footballers is he? Isn't his leap and his mobility a calling card of his?

Personally I think it was just some crappy cliche from Dave when he couldn't actually think up a proper reason for rating him so highly.

McKernan to me seems a decent prospect for CHF/chb although i feel he maybe somewhat slow. His leap although good doesnt help the fact he is small, vickery fors instance is 3cm taller as good a mark and as good a leap if i wanted a ruckman i would say vickery over mckernan.

I agree with Smiddaz on this one I reckon you just have a liking for McKernan and made up your reason that you like him. What you have to remember and becareful of when drafting a kid who's played all over the shop at 18's level without really cementing a spot is being mindful of where they will play at AFL level and how they will fit that position.

McKernan's pace off the mark, strength etc are questionable for KP. I see him being very Kosi like pick.

If we took him at 11 I'd be gonig for the pills

'Seems like a footballer' is not a reason for rating someone. Translated it means 'I don't have a proper reason, I just like him'.

I was sarcastically pointing out it was a terrible reason.

His certainly not more athlete then footballer. It is not like his outstanding football nous is his selling point. His got a good contested mark though.

That football nous etc is far more important for mids.

We all know about past players with injury backgrounds like Judd and Selwood.
Its worth the punt i reckon, seems he has a good head on his shoulders and if Voss thought he was the best under 16 in the country then he must go alright.

I know nothing about McKernan, but if he has half the natural talent that Kosi does, he's doing well.

If he's what Kosi is now, that's obviously another story...

What are people's thoughts on Mitch Robinson? Seems a Hine type in that he's tall for a mid, a good athlete, and needs to put on weight.

I'm sure Sampler will point out he's not an underage Vic, but still, interested to hear thoughts from those that have seen him play.

Yeah, but I'm not doing it because I don't know who Suban is - Quite the opposite, actually.

That was the main reason people didn't like the Thomas/Pendlebury draft - People thought we could have got Thomas at #5, and they didn't really know who Pendlebury was at all.

My dad, who knows nothing at all about the draft, immediately said that "we've stuffed this one up", and I had to point out to him that he knew absolutely nothing about Pendlebury, and that he had actually said while watching the TAC Cup Grand Final recap that we should draft Dale Thomas at #2.

I'm not talking about that kind of emotional reaction - I legitimately have seen, and don't rate Suban as being worth anything near a first round pick.

Given that it appears highly likley that Watts, NickNat, Rich, Hurley & I'd throw in Vickery (don't think he'll get past Richmond). We only need 1 other player to be selected outside of this group to get your wish. Íf not, you'd have Trengove, who looks excellent in the ruck for a key position player. Seriously he has a wicked leap.

Just on Swift, seeing the footage where he did his ACL, most players would have done their ACL in the same circumstances. Just landed very unluckily. I would feel confident in his knee, more of a concern would be his unknown level of development while he's missed almost 2 full years.

Let me preface this by saying I am a gambling man... "no".

The simplest way to explain my position is that I don't think he's going to be that much better than the next best available player to justify the risk. Maybe at best, he's going to be 10-15% better than that player, but he's probably got 30% less chance of making it for various reasons. This is an oversimplification, but you get the idea.

The odds don't stack up for mine. What's more, I don't think the Pies are in a position where we can afford to "miss" with our first couple of picks this year. The unfortunate reality is that Swift is a better proposition for the powerhouse sides of the competition in Geelong and Hawthorn, and even then I wouldn't be surprised to see Swift slide into the 20's.

Inclined to agree. Suban projects as a small defender at AFL level for mine, and I don't really see where his improvement is going to come from. 45/46 for sure, but before that I'd be uneasy.

I can't be bothered doing a search to corroborate this, but I'm 99% sure McKernan tested very, very well athletically at the Draft Camp. I don't think there are any concerns at all about his pace off the mark.

That said, I couldn't see the sense in Collingwood drafting him. He's not a good fit for our needs, however promising a prospect he might be.
