Episode 4: Cooney, Zaharakis & Fantasia, special guest is Redman

5.40 Reflecting on Anzac Day game, Joe's goal. Zaka saying most of Collingwood's scores in the first quarter were from our turnovers, so we were basically beating ourselves. Felt like they were back in the game after the end of the second quarter, but then every time they got close Collingwood would kick the next one, so they never got to take the lead.

7.35 "contentious issues". Zaka explaining how he saw the Crisp decision (he was closer than the umpires and saw it better according to Coons). If 16 blokes stop on the field it's a good indication there's gonna be a free kick. Also talk about the Stephenson decision. Zaka: the way I look at it, holding the ball is grey area, it's more of an interpretation of a rule. if you just accept that and some will go your way and some won't, and then just play footy. coz it's going to happen every week.

Cooney asking about Pendlebury accepting the award, the booing etc. Fantasia pretty much saying what we were saying (hey Raz!) that it was more being unhappy about the situation and maybe the umpiring. Redman chimes in said they were a bit unsure what the booing was for, probably because of the Collingwood fans chanting "Collingwood" and trying to drown that out. Zaka agreed about the Collingwood chant, pretty much had booing every time that chant started. Bucks jumped the gun.

Episode 9 is up... Zaka & Fantasia with Parish as the guest. Cooney usually hosts it but he's on holidays in this ep.

First one since the Communication Specialists did a number on Raz. They address it straight up at the start of the podcast.

I’m really not a fan of Podcasts as a medium, but I’m really enjoying the Don Air podcast. It’s really good to hear a more human side of the players.

One of the great players Hirdy but always found him a tad boring in the media.
I think he's fantastic. Insightful and intelligent commentary is never boring. A fresh of breath air after all the over produced, headline and attention seeking clowns.

Absolutely loved the podcast today! It was so good to hear from Watson and Hird, they along with Campbell, have a great chemistry and seem to get along really well. It made me miss football, but I really enjoyed listening to the stories and they had doc Reid on as well which was a highlight.
Jobe doesn’t seem to have even a snifter of a saga-grudge against Hird which must displease some of the hecklers out there.

I believe Campbell was also CEO when Hird was removed a coach in 2015.
Didnt seem to be any burnt bridges or hard feelings between them

Very few, if any, people who were actually there blame Hird.

It was AFL-driven.

Recorded within the walls of Windy Hill with 20 of the club's biggest names and club historian Dan Eddy.

Eddy says;
“With the docuseries, you’re sort of restricted to certain comments you can make regarding a certain subject, and then you move on to the next one. With the podcast, we’ve been able to elaborate more on the series and tell the funny side to things. It’s more a general chat and the guys are relaxed,” Eddy said.

“We wanted to tell a lot of great stories about the history of the club through the people who have lived the highs and lows and enjoyed the successes together.

“They’ll show the family culture of the club, how much the club embraced its people and how those people flourished from being in that environment.

“We’ll hear the players in a more comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, and the stories that come out of it are some new ones the fans will enjoy.”

Available on Omny from Wednesday, will also be added to Spotify, Google and Apple podcasts.

First ep is Timmy Watson

Some quotes from the article– I'll add some cliffs to this when I get time to listen to it later/tomorrow.

“It (major shift) was from day one (under Sheedy),” Watson said.

“We got this call from our team manager Kevin Egan about being at training in October (1980). I was like, ‘What the hell?’ Nobody was training in October, no one.

“Not only were we training in October, but it was five nights a week in October – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Our pre-season the year before started in January, so this was a major shift.

“We all got weighed on the first night, training was explained to us, we all got given a footy. He (Sheedy) said, ‘This is football, we’re not training to be runners, we’re training to be football players’.

“It sounds so simple today, but that just didn’t happen then. That’s how far he was ahead of everyone else back then, and because he was like that, we started to feel like there was a rub-off here and that we’re all part of it.

“I’ve never spoken to anyone else about this, but immediately I was so excited about what was going to happen. I didn’t know how you build success, but he’d come from Richmond and been part of it, so I believed in what he was doing.”
