Re: Retirement Announcement Today...

Will he get a special send off for his last game in round 22?

Hopefully we'll be alive at least a week longer than that.

All time great bloke and player - very rare these days.

Lets hope the Saints do a "Robbie Flower" but take it 2 steps further.

Harvey is one bloke who deserves the perfect ending.

Re: Retirement Announcement Today...

Hopefully he gets a send off in Melbourne.

I guess it depends on where St Kilda finish and how far they go in the finals.

Would be nice to have it in Melbourne to get as many St Kilda fans as possible to give him thanks for a wonderful career.

He can't be traded to Geelong at this stage of the season you know ;)

If it is indeed Rob Harvey that's retiring I will most certainly be there to see him off, even if it's in a final and I have to pay 70 bucks to get in. I was there for his first two games of league footy in 1988, and since that time he's been a credit to himself, his family, his club, the competition and footy as a whole. One of the genuine champions of the game and a class act all the way :thumbsu:

would be the single greatest fairytale ending for him to play his last game in a winning GF in the red, white and black...add to that a norm smith medal ;)

You're a true champion my friend:thumbsu:

HARVEY RETIRES

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008 at 8:44 am

By CRAIG HUTCHISON

ST KILDA legend Robert Harvey will today announce his retirement.
In an extraordinary footnote to the build up to this week’s Collingwood clash, the focus will today turn to the Saints and the confirmation that their most decorated player in history will retire at the end of the season.
A press conference will be held later this morning.
Harvey’s retirement increases the pressure on St Kilda to make this season’s finals and send him off in appropriate fashion.
We’ll have more through the day on the home of breaking footy news … Footyheads.com.au

Well done champ, rob harvey is one bloke who deserves it.

Re: Retirement Announcement Today...

Ouch, was hoping he'd go round again next year and reach 400. Hope the Saints can send him off in a fitting way.

Re: Retirement Announcement Today...

I will go to the Essendon v St Kilda game just to send him off, Robert Harvey is a Legend of the game and deserves to have as many people as he can to be cheering him off.

Robert Harvey - Thanks For The Memories

I understand there is already a thread on the topic (created by me!), but this great man deserves one in his name, to thank him for such a wonderful career.

Robert Harvey is one of the true, genuine champions of the VFL/AFL. A credit to his club, to the AFL and a credit to the name "Harvey". He has made the number 35 at Moorabbin the single most famous number at St Kilda.

Nobody could ever doubt his work ethic, and his loyalty. The man could have gone anywhere, for any sum of money and decided to stick it out with St Kilda. In a time where loyalty is questioned, and players credibility is being questioned, Robert Harvey is a clear reminder of why we all watch this great game.

Robert, you are an absolute champion and will be sorely missed by the footy world, especially us Saints fans who have watched you amaze us for over 20 years. You have the respect of the entire football community, something you have earnt. The fact that you have only been reported once, and the case was thrown out, shows just how fair and classy you are.

Your honor roll speaks for itself:

Brownlow Medal 1997, 1998

Best and fairest 1992, 1994, 1997, 1998

2nd best and fairest 2000, 2003

3rd best and fairest 1990, 1993, 1996, 1999

All-Australian 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2003

International Rules Series 1998

EJ Whitten Medal 1992, 1993, 1996

AFLPA MVP 1997

Michael Tuck Medal 2004

Pre-season premiership sides 1996, 2004

Captain 2001-02

Not to mention all the records he has broken...

You are an inspirtation to us all, all the best for the remainer of the season, and most importantly:

THANK YOU

Hopefully that is not our last game

Re: Robert Harvey - Thanks For The Memories

He doesn't get all the Kudos of a Buckley / Hird / Voss

But he has 2 Charlies and a CV that has almost everything (that elusive premiership) that puts him right up there with the greats of the game.

It'll be a strange sight not seeing no 35 running out with the saints next year.

He wouldn't go anyway :p

Giant loss to the game, one of the true gentlemen of the AFL. As good a bloke as he is a player

Re: Retirement Announcement Today...

Re: Retirement Announcement Today...

St Kilda to win the remaining home and away games and finish top 4. Could the Saints be inspired to win it for the great man? Pie's almost did it for Bucks last year, don't underestimate the influence of retiring champs

Re: Robert Harvey - Thanks For The Memories

Ah man, since I can remember he's been out there getting 25 touches and running all day... Champion.

Good luck Bangers :thumbsu:

I can't believe how many times he's made AA, incredible effort!

Re: Robert Harvey - Thanks For The Memories

The longevity of the bloke is amazing. He made his debut in 1988. Nobody else still playing made their debut before 1993. He is a true champion of the game and fully deserves to be called that.

Re: Robert Harvey - Thanks For The Memories

What a true champion this bloke is.

Lasted a long time in this cutthroat business and loved by most i would think. A great player and bloke.

Well done Harvs, may your life after footy be just as good. :thumbsu:

Re: Retirement Announcement Today...

If this doesn't inspire the Saints to produce something speciaaaaalll, nothing will. A legend of the game and deserving of the most fitting send-off the Saints can produce - and always came across as humble and grateful for what the game brought to him.

Re: Robert Harvey - Thanks For The Memories

Great Player, great CV,

but one question why did he only captain 2 years??????????
