Frankly, to suggest White is a better option as an all-rounder than Watson is absolutely ludicrous. Quite laughable, actually.

(Oh, and I'm not a Queenslander.)

Not really, he is easily the superior number 7 bat and if Watson isnt performing with the ball he shouldnt be in the team.

But is suggesting that White is a better all-rounder to be in the team ludicrous?

The best players aren't always the best choice to fill a need within the team.

Even ignoring the fact that it's actually Watson who is the better batsman of the two (compare their domestic one-day records, their first-class records and their one-day international records if you need a reference point) ...

Do you realise that they need an *all-rounder* in that particular spot in the side?

For Pete's sake, if you're even going to consider dropping Watson, then there's no point replacing him with a specialist batsman. If that's what White even is (with a one-day international batting average of 17), anyway.

I am a QLD fan but I don't think Watson deserves a spot in the 15 for the World Cup. Ponting is basically saying he has a spot, no matter how he performs. His figures since returning have not been that impressive.

His bowling is most certainly not poo, he bowls stump-to-stump and is the ideal sort of ODI (arguably doesn’t have enough wicket-taking ability to play tests) bowler. His record and a whole host of things suggests this is true, if people had anything more than a goldfish memory they would remember how he went over in the Champions Trophy amongst a host of other series and games…

I wasn’t able to watch much of today’s game as I was at the Gabba, but I see he went for a simalir economy rate to Lee. Watson is not bowling at 100%, I think everyone should know this, it’s been widely publicized and the man has said this himself. I don’t think at the moment he really should be relied on for 10 overs. Even at the World Cup you’d expect to split his 10 with Clarke atleast depending on the wicket.

If at the World Cup he is bowling as poorly as he supposedly did today, and he’s 100%, get stuck into him please, because he is underperforming.
It’s the man’s second game back from injury, he only sent down 12 overs in the last Sheild game because of his leg, he arguably should be playing for Queensland at the moment, but to write him and his bowling off for the World Cup would be pretty silly.


If Watto and Hodgey go on with it tonight, will people stop bagging them?

Johnson, much like Watson, has reasonable figures and the backing of a number of people who know a lot about the game. If in your crazy jaded mind he’s a hack, that’s super, but it really isn’t the case, he was next in line for all of the test series and he is rated. His bowling in the current ODI series suggests he is more than up to international standard.

As for the dud comment? He took 4/55 & 6/51 on a Gabba wicket that was a road (a 6/900d road for ********s sake…), swung the ball outstandingly and was justly rewarded with ODI berths.

If you really do honestly believe that you have more idea about the game and players than selectors and experts, then that’s pretty amusing.

I’ve got no idea how Johnson got dragged into a Watson topic, but anyway.

The wicket at the Gabba is a road is it? Last time I checked you weren’t Jimmy Maher or Mark Cosgrove, so I don’t think you have any real say on how the wicket is playing.

Gabba wickets generally are either greentops or roads, this one in the current game has a little bit in it for the bowlers and batsman need to work to get in and can reward themselves after that. Having said that, it has flattened out as the game went on, but Gillespie bowling at the same time was able to extract a hell of a lot out of it and troubled the batsman on more than one occasion.

Why are you trying to turn this into a state v state sort of thing, do you have a chip on your shoulder?

The way you jumped to Tait’s defence and took my comments the wrong way suggests there is more than a chance.

This isn’t a state thing at all, it’s about the best possible national side. I’m happy if QLD have 0 players in the side and it’s the best side, I’m happy to say Cosgrove had some awesome strokes in his two innings, Cullen Bailey looks like he could be alright, I praised Gillespie!?

And I’m sure Tait could be something special for Australia down the track, but the fact is he looked bloody ordinary up here in what was a really important game for him and his world cup hopes.

Got dropped, should have come out and wanted to bowl as good as possible and really attack batsmen like Stuey Clark….It was quite disappointing really.

As for no one really caring what I think,
1) It’s a forum, so the idea is you can post without people caring.
2) It’s a different story outside of Bigfooty, and that’s good enough for me to want to have an opinion.
3) I’m terribly sorry that I don’t post often enough to have a profile like your kind self. I actually have a little bit of a life so can’t post every second, and when I do post, it’s not crap, you’ll see I’ve been on this forum for some time though, quite a bit longer than you….


As for Watto being a mummy’s boy, last time I checked his mother hasn’t written to the papers for her son like one Brad Hodge…

People can blab on and on about how technically sound his batting is and so on, and how is bowling average is now about 30 in recent time but we all know he's lacking that makes him an average player and not a great player . . INSTINCT

Here's one simple example that was highlighted tonight by the commentators too. The ball had stopped swinging early in the Aussie innings after Plunkett's early success and Flintoff immediately starting bowling line and length. Mahmood continued with the fuller deliveries and got promplty dispatched a few times to the bounday

Warney had it in bucketloads, all most successful ppl have it, from sportsmen to businessmen.

You can have all the talent in the world, you can be coached by the best players and have the most technically sound action but if you dont have ticker and you dont know when to strike, you're useless

You gotta have that killa instinct and want to have the ball, or bat in the hands, and take control of the game

Eh. Basically in summary Watson is good and is deserevedly in our side. He did very well with both bat and ball at the Champions trophy. Gives us more flexiblity.

Mmm, that's not entirely harsh, but it's more Watson is good but not 100% atm, wait until he performs poorly at the World Cup to hang ******** on his bowling. Also Tait was really quite disappointing in this current Pura Cup game, should have fired up more.

Probably could have wrapped it up a bit quicker and not ranted as much, oh well. I don't think Cheif gives out Musashi vouchers anymore for quality posts ;). I'll make sure next time I try and make a point, I stick to 'tait is a dud lol, watto a superstazr,11' and that sort of thing.

Today he looked good with the bat. When he has a few overs to play himself in he can be quite effective.

I'll give wastson credit, that he can bat a bit but thats all. Cant bowl for ********. Bowls too too short and when he tries to pitch it up, he bowls crappy full tosses that are hit for four. Doesnt seem to know how to bowl a yorker. Get him out of the team or he will cost us the world cup!
