That is not what calling someone a "flat track bully" is, and it is certainly not an indication of MacManus's style at all. He plays his best whenever he is on the field, not only when is going his way. He is a veteran at the end of his career, no shame in that, and he is still making a useful contribution to the team.

While he is obviously trying his best, I think he has hurt the team over the last 12 months, and I agree that "flat track bully" is a fair assessment, not by his attitude, but his influence on games.

thats awesome

good luck to mayne and palmer on their first games!

I just had an epiphany.. palmer was sizzling 50m bullets onto pavlichs chest... tarrant was so pumped by the youthful exuberance that he kicked straight and mundy said shit im not the baby of the team anymore im gonna put my body on the line

Awesome news! :thumbsu:

Was right about M Carr and Ma Johnson being safe but didn't think they'd have the balls to play Palmer, Ibbo and Mayne all at once - great stuff :D

Only downer is Warnocks exclusion but the coaching staff must know more about his conditioning than us mere mortals - he is only young and spindly so no sense getting him injured if he's not 100%.

Hopefully the kids can have a good game and put pressure on guys like Peake and Crowley and perhaps replace them or M Carr when Black and Solly are due to return...

Very happy with these selections. :thumbsu:

Hopefully when Blackie and Solly come back in the selectors might look in another direction other than straight at these young blokes as a matter of course.

Now we're heading in the right direction :D

It's hard not to be sentimental, but Macca might have played one of his last games last week, which is sad, but the future looks a lot better for us with these young guys coming in, now all they need to do is prove that they've earned their spots!

With all due respect to Macca, I really hope he has.

Agree esti (cant disagree while you are on your power trip :p) because the flip side is one of the younger guys has stepped up, I just think he still has a role to play this year, even if it is racking up touches for Easts and keeping pressure on the guys in the side.

He has bounced back well from non-selection before so it is not new territory for him.

If only we could instill his passion and determination into a player with more refined/consistent skills.

Will wait to see how the young guys travel before sharpening the knives.

Very excited about the game now.

well blackie might be back next week.
Thoroughly agree with you that harvey should look to the likes of Byron , peake and Ma Johnson as players to drop out when black, solly, fossie and Robbie are due back

Macca has left out with a calf injury rather than omitted. It will get very interesting when he is recovered and Soloman / Black are both available. I would see Mark Johnson going out for Soloman and I suppose it will depend on form who goes out for Black. Hard to see Macca forcing his way back but I suppose if Palmer doesn't make an impression or Crowley / Peake aren't playing well it's possible.

I agree with the comments on how good it will be when players like McManus don't get back in simply because the young guys have taken over. As disappointing as Solomon's suspension is, combined with the injuries to an unfit Black and McManus, at least it's an opportunity for the young guys to put the pressure on. If Palmer, Ibbotson and Mayne can do enough to keep their spots, the pressure won't just be on McManus and the other oldies to get a game, it will be on everyone (as it should be). :thumbsu:

Really happy with these ins. We wanted youth, and we've got youth.

It will be interesting to see how we go in the clearances on Saturday. Obviously you can't expect Palmer, Mayne and Ibbotson to shoulder most of the load, but I'm sure that at least two of them will be regular best 22 players in the coming years. Which two? I don't know - that's just averages.

Really happy with this. :thumbsu:

Few thoughts from an opposition supporter:

- Perhaps Harvs was waiting for a home match to bring these youngsters in.

- Not terribly concerned about having to (directly) stop 3 players with only 1 game experience between them, but wary of the flow-on effect that youth can have on older experienced players.

- Don't think Pavlich is the kind of guy that is likely to have 2 bad games in a row.

- Think Hodge and Brown will be hungry as hell to get their hands dirty and have an impact.

Good luck Guys :thumbsu:

Good luck to you too. But reading the Hawthorn site, your brethren think you've won it already.
I hope your team is the same.
I am stoked to see these kids in there, at least one of them is going to be a showstopper. It takes me back 3/4 years !!

Seems you guys are happy with the ins this week and fair enough.

But i ask as all three changes were forced due to suspension and injury what you really thought would have happened at the selection table if those players were available?

Who knows??
You could speculate forever and never really know the answer.

I expect 2 of them would have come in had all players been fit/able to play.

I think Brown played on Pav last time we played hawks an i think brown did really well.
I expect Pavlich to remember that an make sure he shows that the little guy is no match for him.
