News
Geelong has confirmed that Steven King is the only change for it’s team to face Port Adelaide in the grand final on Saturday.

King replaces the unlucky Mark Blake in the line up. Should the Cats win King will be the first player to win two premierships with the same club in the same season. He helped the Geelong VFL team to premiership last Sunday.

Travis Varcoe, Brent Prismall and Blake have been named as emergencies.

Cameron Mooney is the only Geelong player with grand final experience, helping the Kangaroos win the 1999 premiership with a win over Carlton.

If we lose I think we should start a "Byrnes and King Appreciation Thread" :p

At the end of the day, I'd have preferred Pris, but throwing him in now is a risk, however Byrnes is a guaranteed risk. But he's there, hopefully he gets limited game time.

I reckon the thinking may have been that Prismall just would add another one-paced midfielder to the team which we already have enough of. In pure football ability terms there is no doubt Prismall win hands down, but Byrnes "adds" something a bit different in the form of leg speed and the ability to run through the lines. With Ling, Corey, Bartel, Kelly and Selwood we have enough similar midfielders to rotate through the midfield.

Anyway that's probably the selectors thinking. They just don't want us to be too one-paced against a slick Port side.

Lets get things into perspective,in less than 48hrs there will be 22 players carrying our hopes, dreams and aspirations into battle.
They will all be playing their guts out for us and themselves.
So lets support them...ALL OF THEM!!!

Agree there Sarah. Whether we love them or hate them, they are our team who will bring home the bacon, support them all. Give it your best, they will be giving it their all I know it.

So lets just drop the 'I hate Shannon' stuff, and just get on with it for now. Support every single player, they are our team in the GF.

This is no doubt the thinking of selectors - its lucky we are playing Port who are quick otherwise surely Byrnes would have been given the arse. There is little merit to this though, Byrnes' disposal is about as reliable as my 1986 Commodore. What's more he can't kick goals.

All hail Shannon

I'm disappointed Shannon wasn't replaced, but f***, I'm at the stage where I just want to win. These 22 are the ones.

:mad: Just for once or u haters of Byrnes wish him all the f*ckin best, bloody sick of it, His named thats it, Just get over it or dont worry bout posting....
Your confused. I don't hate Byrnes. I don't hate anyone assosciated with the GFC. I actually like Byrnes and don't doubt he puts in 100%. But I want a premiership, that is my number one priority. Not Blake playing, not Byrnes playing.

Having said that now that the team is selected of course I wish Byrnes the best of luck and will be ecstatic for him if he becomes a premiership player.

Look at the Emergencies....

I have a very strong feeling that Varcoe or Prismall (my choice) will come into the side late on Saturday.

Fingers crossed. That midget will cost us a game one day, it better not be this week.

Not Varcoe, I'd rather Byrnes, but I'd much prefer Pris, there's talk on a lot of the other team boards of him being traded? Stuff that, he's going to be a gun!

There won't be any late changes, weather wouldn't even force a change now

I wouldnt be surprised if Blake comes in. I just have this strange feeling this is another one of Thompsons little mind games and in reality Blake will be in and King out. Or maybe I am just hoping :p

Exactly. The rest of you who are thinking/hoping that there will be a late change are just clutching at straws. He's been named in the team. It's time to get behind the team, support them and get over the Byrnes-hate.
Not Byrnes-hate, lose flag-hate.

Kidding. I'm behind all of them.
