In the space of the next five days to the Monday 1.30pm deadline for trade week, Noble could set up the Adelaide Football Club's recruiting success for the next five years.

Stockpiling draft picks to the less-compromised 2012 and 2013 national drafts - which supposedly have some exciting talent - is clearly worth sending the contracted Tippett to Brisbane for.

For all the emphatic statements from West Lakes that Tippett would not be traded, the reality is every AFL player has his price - and Adelaide has found a stunning recruiting strategy by unloading the highly paid Tippett, who is not measuring up against expectations.

4.12pm: Melbourne has dangled a four-year deal believed to be worth up to $800,000 a season in front of Brisbane big man Mitch Clark.

Clark has quit the Lions but his plan to return home to Western Australia has made little progress, with the Lions knocking Fremantle's offer of a late first-round draft pick.

The Dees haven't ruled out putting pick 12 on the table, and one of the compensation picks received for losing Tom Scully to GWS could also come into the picture.

A big forward would perfectly compliment Melbourne's young list and ease the pressure on mid-size forwards such as Liam Jurrah and Jack Watts.

The Demons switched their attention to Clark after failing to tempt Chris Dawes away from Collingwood.

“We are definitely interested in the possibility of Mitch Clark coming to the club. Late yesterday (Wednesday), I contacted [Brisbane Lions national talent manager] Robbie Kerr to express our interest,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“We asked permission to talk with Mitch and we spoke to his manager about that, so we’re working through the process.

“Right now it’s up to Mitch and if he expresses his desire to come to Melbourne, well, we’re working on that to get a deal done with Brisbane. We’re making really good progress there.

“Our dealings with Brisbane have been really productive and fruitful and they’re saying that they’re happy with the way it’s proceeding from their point-of-view as well.”

BRISBANE Lions forward Mitch Clark is still on track to move to his preferred club Fremantle by the end of Trade Week, despite fielding what his manager described as an "outstanding" offer from Melbourne late on Wednesday.

Fremantle, which holds selections No.16 and No.20 in this year's NAB AFL Draft, has been the frontrunner to secure Clark from the Lions, but the clubs are yet to agree on a satisfactory trade.

Brisbane Lions list manager Rob Kerr said on Thursday that he was surprised Fremantle was yet to table a formal offer for Clark.

Meanwhile the Lions are still keen to lure Ben Hudson to spend a year with them after apparently retiring from the Bulldogs, while they have also not given up hope on a potential poach of Crows star Kurt Tippett.

The clubs are, however, miles apart from reaching a deal.

“We have spoken to Adelaide about Kurt Tippett on a number of occasions, and they are fairly adamant they don’t want to trade him,” Kerr told radio 3AW.

“They have suggested to us what it would take – and we are probably not prepared to do that, particularly with the players they have mentioned.”

The Age: Demons tempt Clark with offer

MITCH Clark is weighing up a massive four-year offer from Melbourne, which yesterday made a bold bid for the Brisbane follower/forward, outbidding Clark's long-preferred suitor Fremantle.

A Melbourne contingent headed by new coach Mark Neeld yesterday flew to Brisbane and met Clark, offering the out-of-contract ruckman and forward a four-year deal believed to be worth in excess of $2 million.

The Dockers are believed to have offered Clark about $1.5 million over three seasons, but sources say the Melbourne offer is superior, both in terms of money and length of contract.

The Australian: Melbourne Demons leading race for Mitch Clark

Brisbane list manager Rob Kerr acknowledged that the Eagles were out of the running for Clark, and said the player was "re-thinking his position" about moving home.

"Fremantle say that (16) is their best offer and we obviously prefer 12," Kerr said. "Mitch might have an offer too good to refuse from Melbourne, so Fremantle is not in the box seat at the moment."

For the Dockers to challenge the Demons for Clark, who has the right to reject any trade, they will have to come up with a better package, by probably including their next-best draft selection, which is now pick No 20.

Fremantle has already refused a trade package involving players Zac Clarke or Chris Mayne moving to Brisbane.

MELBOURNE has shed its passive, penny-pinching image by launching a massive bid for Brisbane's Mitch Clark. Rumours the Demons were prepared to offer a four-year deal worth as much as $3.2 million swept the football world yesterday.
The club moved quickly to play down the figures, but the offer is substantial - perhaps at least in the $600,000-a-season range.
Clark had made it clear he wanted to be traded to Fremantle, but the offer is enough to make him waiver.

SportsNewsFirst: Clark stays Fremantle bounc

Clark told his manager on Friday to continue with negotiations to join Fremantle.

“Mitch wants to continue his AFL career with Fremantle in his home state. He has stated that all along,” Young said.

“He has considered very carefully the very attractive offer to go to Melbourne and appreciates the efforts and professionalism shown by the Demons.

“But he has a firm preference to play with Fremantle and we will continue working to achieve that move for Mitch.”

MITCH Clark's refusal to move to Melbourne has derailed Brisbane Lions' audacious bid to land Adelaide star Kurt Tippett.

Despite an impressive pitch by new Demons coach Mark Neeld, who spent the past two days talking with Clark in Brisbane, the Lions ruckman decided for family reasons to re-affirm his desire to play with Fremantle.

But the rules governing Greater Western Sydney's entry into the competition contain a twist that both the Lions and Melbourne believe favour them in the battle for Clark.
The Demons checked with the AFL administration yesterday and confirmed that Brisbane would be entitled to a compensation pick if Clark entered the draft and was selected by GWS - which has the first pick in the draft.
This pick would almost certainly be a first-rounder, given the amount of money involved and Clark's age (23).

Lisle on Lions' radar

THE BRISBANE Lions have shown interest in dealing for Hawthorn key position prospect Jordan Lisle, according to his manager Liam Pickering.

AFL.com.au's Trade Week Radio reported on Saturday that Pickering had confirmed the approach, but he did not shed any light on the likelihood of a deal being done before Monday's 2pm deadline.

The Lions have focused on the versatile 21-year-old, with national talent manager Rob Kerr confirming yesterday that the two clubs were negotiating over suitable draft pick compensation.

"He (Lisle) is a player who can play key forward or key back, and we need players who are capable of doing that," Kerr said.

"He is a 21-year-old and has looked promising in some of the games he has played at AFL level this year. We are interested in him and hopefully we can arrange it."

Confirmation of the Clark negotiation history

"We were making a serious pitch for Kurt through the trade period and as a result of that we needed to maintain some flexibility within our salary cap," Kerr said.

Much of the Lions' trade week has been taken up with trying to finalise what is happening with big man Mitch Clark, who wants to go to Fremantle.

"We always said to Fremantle that we want their first pick (No.16) and preferably something in addition to it," Kerr said.

"They started with their end of first-round compensation pick, then they moved to pick 20 and now to pick 16.

"We are continuing to talk to them."

Brisbane Lions will complete a deal for Hawthorn key-position player Jordan Lisle to move north for a second-round draft selection - pick 29.
Brisbane secured a trade with Melbourne for the out-going Mitch Clark but as of last night had had no further contact with the Crows about the possibility of a deal for Queenslander Kurt Tippett.
The Lions had told Adelaide on Friday they were prepared to offer a first-round pick - either 8 or 12 - and an end of first-round compensation pick for Tippett.
The Crows said they were not interested in a trade unless it involved either of South Australians Jared Polec or Jack Redden. Brisbane is unprepared to entertain either of those players in a trade and so has not returned to negotiate with Adelaide.
The Lions are prepared to wait another year to seek to negotiate a trade for Tippett when he is out of contract, understanding he has a clause in his contract requiring the Crows to trade him to a club of his choice for specified trade terms - believed to be a second and third-round draft pick - should he choose to to leave.
Yesterday Lions player Tom Rockliff tweeted a subtle chip to his former teammate Clark: "I guess money can cure anything".
The Lions will today complete a trade for Bulldogs ruckman Ben Hudson for a late draft pick.
